  1. Gold! I did not know that. Anyone want to come sea kittening tomorrow?
  2. Mostly donations from other, richer, 'conservatives' I imagine. I would be appalled if our tax payer dollars were being spent on this tripe.
  3. I agree and disagree. I don't like giving them attention, but I also don't like them spewing their uneducated garbage out to people who might not know any better. A lot of people take stories like that at face value and I'd hate to see someone decide not to take up fishing because they only got Ms Anti-Anglings side of the story. But in principle, I agree with you Ranger.
  4. Glad you said that. I was just about to type her an e-mail. :S My rage over being compared to a kiddy fiddler has blinded me.
  5. +1 Boyo +1.The last time I had to purchase a fishing permit was in Kiama when I went on holidays. It cost me $5 for a three day fishing licence which I thought was quite acceptable and was sold to me at a local tackle shop. As long as the costs are not exorbitant and those sort of licences (couple days, couple months, couple years, lifetime) are in place and monitored then I think it's a good idea.I don't like the idea of ridiculous fines for fishing without a licence either as I don't think fines ever really prevent people from doing the wrong thing. I would rather see compulsory education cl
  6. Great link Tony. It good to see someone who is a true advocate of our sport doing something about it.The only issue I would have is with the line which reads: or voluntary or compulsory levies on the boating and tackle trade. It is hard enough for all of us at the moment without introducing new levies/taxes on us. I think it would be detrimental to a lot of small businesses if it were not handled very carefully.Otherwise I am in full support of fishing licences etc being introduced.I especially agree with recommendations 1 & 2.
  7. Sweeeeeeeet. Hope I get something fishing related for Chrissy, although I don't like my chances at the moment.
  8. Hey fella, welcome to Adelaide! This is a great city for fisho's like us, plenty of places for good landbased catches and if you can con a mate into getting you out on the water there's some great fishing to be had.In response to your Q's:Q1: Well it really depends on the type of fishing, as you've indicated. The surf fishing is pretty good around here and there are some decent beaches all up and down the coast and well within an hour or two's drive. As for local metro landbased spots there are a number to try. Plenty of breakwaters around such as St Kilda and North Haven (my local haunts), Ga
  9. Got to play with a Spheros a little while back. Good reel, very solid and with a fairly deep spool from what I can remember.
  10. The site has helped me to spend many cold, wet nights during winter sitting on my bum on the cold rocks not catching a Mulloway, so thanks guys! But seriously, the advice I have gotten from here has helped me streamline my processes before I head out and I intend to keep putting in the hours until I finally get one of those elusive Silver Ghosts.
  11. Just troll along the edge of the channel as close past the markers as is safe. I believe there is a bit of a hole by the first marker near the end of the channel that the Snook sit in. They seem to be there most of the time but the early morning and late afternoon tides are probably the best; when the Salmon Trout come out to play, the Snook won't be far behind.
  12. Don't go right straight out of the channel as that is a sanctuary and a no fishing zone! If the fisheries catch you out there it's a fairly hefty fine.Go left straight out of the channel, as if you're going to head to the North Arm and either troll past the three red channel markers or drift and flick hbs/sps. That spot produces some huge Snook and they have started turning up in good numbers.Good luck!
  13. The difference being that West Lakes is an enclosed, man made lake and Coffins/Port Augusta are not.
  14. I reckon if there were any kingys in west lakes we would have heard more than a rumor by now. You can't catch a tommy in this town without everyone knowing what bait, line, hook and reel you were using. I doubt kingys would be able to hide in there for long, especially since so many people target mulloway with the same baits that a kingy would take and none have been captured yet that I am aware of.Is it possible that one could get in there? I dunno, probably but I am thinking that it's unlikely there are any in there right now since the law of averages would see at least one being caught by a
  15. I have been using 2lb Stren Microfuse on my main setup for the last 6 months with very minimal problems. Running my second setup with 2lb Berkley Nanofil and this stuff is fantastic for casting but does suffer from wind knots a bit.
  16. When I was a bit younger and still in school we went on a trip to Wreck Beach in Sleaford Bay chasing big sambos in the surf. It was early morning when we got there and there were some brilliant looking gutters which looked like they would produce some big fish.Since it was a school trip, we were using the schools fishing gear. After being busted off by two big salmon I got the cranks with my teacher and got him to give me a different reel, since the one I started with was sloppy and the line was old. It was on after that with plenty of big 2 - 3kg fish coming in all up the beach. Suddenly my
  17. Yeah they pinged a few people down here yesterday. One guy for too many Snapper and another for undersized crabs.
  18. Hey Kingsley,I was only checking out the appstore the other day for something fishing related and found that for Australia most of the apps were either crap or ridiculously expensive.Would be happy to pay a few bucks for an app that could:[ul] [li]Give me up to date tide/weather information.[/li] [li]List popular local spots.[/li] [li]Keep my own notes easily and quickly on fish catches, weather conditions, moon phase etc[/li] [li]Provide size/bag limits. Best baits for species etc[/li] [li]Provide a basic knot guide.[/li][/ul]The cheapest I could find was like $12.95 which is way too muc
  19. That sucks man! I've caught ST's, Flathead, Whiting, Bream, Tommies etc etc on SP's and they make up 90% of my tackle and dictate my target species these days! It's a pity you couldn't get them working for you.
  20. ST's and a few Bream from North Haven and St Kilda breakwalls. Everytime I get time to get out for anything else (mullies in West Lakes or out to semi reef) the weather turns bad and we end up cancelling. This Thursday will be the third (times a charm) that we've tried to get out for KG's.
  21. In terms of the Marine Parks; yes you can fish, they haven't been implemented yet as far as I know.As for actually being able to fish off the jetty, dunno, never been there. I assume there is water?
