The missus & I use either size 4 Owner Mutu Light Circle or a 1/0 KL Circle, both essentially the same size!. The oldies still like to use a size 4 longshank, can't say our catch rates are much different but the circles work better for me as my rod spends a lot of time in the holder while I'm rebaiting, unhooking fish etc for the fair one and doing all the other little chores the skipper has to do. Plus I get sidetracked catching squid or chucking a SP around.

    Absolutely bring them to SA.
Build them at Mawson Lakes, Wynn Vale Dam, Garden Island, West Lakes and maybe Outer Harbour.
Just another reason we need RFLs in this state to fund this type of fishing infrastructure.
I've seen a guy in a wheelchair fishing Largs Jetty many moons ago, said he preferred Largs coz it's shorter.
We definitely need to make it easier for disabled folks to fish, close to car parks too.

RFSA and DRFC have collaborated on a response to CSCC, attached is the response on DRFC letterhead and the RFSA response has also been sent to council to reinforce rec fisher concerns.

Can't help with locations.Just wanted to say that whatever you do, get some formal training. I've been a professional/military diver, life support technician and hyperbaric chamber supervisor for my entire working life, currently working at the RAH Hyperbaric Unit. I'm getting tired of reading fatality reports of people with inadequate training drowning in shallow water while snorkelling.Just a friendly word of caution as part of my community safet role.CheersWahoo

Should work well, seen plenty of Squid following KGs to the surface with evil intent. many moons ago, before the days of digital cameras the Mother in Law asked me to help her with a fish she couldn't control. turned out to be a 38cm KG with an enormous squid wrapped around it, judicious use of the landing net saw us with 2 meals for the price of one.

G'day All (and not just Rec Fishers like me)As Mobil complete the remediation of the land, a Master Plan for future development of the land and its infrastructure will have to be developed. For such a large piece of land, this will include commercial and community spaces, and the land is large enough to be planned as a destination for the whole of SA.Now, if Mobil are required to demolish the jetty as part of exiting their lease, HOW MUCH WOULD THAT COST THEM?..... $10million? Why demolish a significant piece of infrastructure that was upgraded 15 years ago and, with some modifications, could be made suitable for public use!? So, Mobil pays the Goevrnment $10m to leave it there, the Government spends $1m - $2m to make it suitable for public use and puts the rest into trust for future upgrade and manitenance....... completely self funding!Link it to a major public destination on adjacent land and kids can learn to fish, divers can swim at the end, people can walk in the fresh air with their kids and their old and frail...... C'mon Lads, this is a "no brainer". Vote yes wherever you get the opportunity.j a n z

We use an old galvanised dustbin. Bolted on some legs, cut a hole in the bottom, drilled some holes in the sides to accomodate rods to put racks on. We've got 2 racks and can take a decent feed of Tommy/ST/Mullet fillets. We fit a tray with the sawdust/chips on it over the hole in the base, put a burner under it to get things smoking then turn it off & keep an eye on it, if we need more smoke we'll fire it up again. Experiment with different brine mixes to get the flavour you like.

@ Kon. Gregorian Easter is invariably late March through to mid April.I mean, like, seriously Mr Meedja...WTF?Not wishing to offend the Christians but Easter is held on the weekend of the first full moon after the Northern Hemisphere spring equinox, hence the moving dates. It is an ancient Norse festival of Oestrus signifying the rebirth (Spring), it's why we give Eggs! Just another festival stolen by the Vatican when they were trying to tie down dates.KGW must have not heard of it and have stayed out wide 'til the water cools, maybe!

Not too foul at all.... Bit tough to admit this but I was stretched to my limits by a robust feral goldfish in the river torrent on 1kg 'cobweb' tackle.... At one stage the bug eyed critter had stripped 120 yards of damyl from my spool and had fouled the line amongst the myriad of probes and transducers underneath the keel of 'Popeye 3'. The fish was eventually grassed not too far from the king William street bridge, and later that gay weighed in at 1490 grams (gutted) on the scales of the Grange fish and chip shop.

Hi LexiNSW was the first and took place over a two year period some ten years ago now and Victoria followed later using a similar model.AS for NSW it was a combination of political fortunes, they had some Ministers that had balls. However it didn't just happen and over that two year period the community was heavily consulted and if my memory is correct there was a pro support to the tune of 78% and the Government subsequently went ahead with it.If you get onto SARFAC, they have a complete file on all the deliberations in NSW at the time and also some of Victoria I know the person who put it all together and makes compelling reading.Back about 5 years ago SARFAC carried out a similiar poll ( even using the Governments own polling company), and the percentage of support for a licence in SA was almost identical to NSW. The Premier chose to deliberately ignore it ( we weren't friends ).The only reason SA doesn't have a licence today is because of Mike Rannn, but that's another story and I would be very hard pressed to be nice if asked for the full story!!

Just been reading some of the thumper KG threads in this section & thought I'd share these.Fishie mentions in another thread the power hauling and netting that used to occur on the Stansbury Spit. For years all you could get inside the spit were undersized KGW, waste of time fishing there if you were after KGs. These 2 were caught back in early December, inside the spit in less than 3 metres of water. Both were caught using 6lb braid with 10lb mono trace and size 4 circles. Biggest (caught by the fair one) went 56cm, mine went 51cm. :woohoo: Dropped a similar size one at the boat the next day. Going back in a couple of weeks so fingers crossed.Cheers Wahoo

Before some smart arse comes on and say's "It's at Stansbury" I'll answer for you. Stansbury is on lower Yorke Peninsula about 20kms North of Edithburgh & about 20km south of Port Vincent. Due to the shape of the coastline it has a large sandspit running offshore in a NE direction for a few kilometres. The spit is home to many razorfish, blue swimmers, squid, tommies, garfish, flathead, snook, KGW and about half a dozen oyster farms. Check it out on Google Maps
