  1. Mine is modest at best, a 9lb carp on 4lb line and leader. Caught that at Blanchetown last Summer.Have heard reports of one of the Mensforths fighting a 40lb kingfish at Coffin bay on 6lb setup when chasing salmon trout for live bait. I read a report on it in SA Angler and they fought it in boat for 90 minutes before the leader broke boatside.
  2. I use 5lb on 1000 reel and 6lb on a 2500 reel for my fishing. 5lb is my standard with a 4lb fluorocarbon leader from tommies and gar up to snook, carp and school mullies.
  3. The Rarenium CI4 1000 size weighs approx 170 grams and the new Stradic CI4+ 1000 weighs 176 gramsLuvias 1003 weighs 175g, suppose its all down to balance and preference etc.
  4. Love the egicational videos haha. Just don't talk too much when the squid ink, tastes delicious :vomit:
  5. It's one thing to have knowledge, another to share it. Thanks Des, cracking writeup and great explanations. It's not hard to see why you're the Yellowfin Whisperer
  6. Yakmando is all over it, Sustain FG 1000, Luvias, etc are top quality. Was also suggesting a Shimano Rarenium CI4. nice and light reel. Or a Certate 1003
  7. I've owned on telescopic rod, an Abu Garcia and it was ok but not really great. I'd probably have a look at a travel rod instead. I took a shakspeare Slingshot bought from Fishing Wholesalers over to lincoln for my uni trip and it was perfect. But it all depends on your style of fishing I guess.
  8. As has been previously said, it is illegal to take invertebrates and such from the intertidal zone, between the high and low tide mark. So definitely not a good thing. The animals are known as black nerites or periwinkles, they are a common gastropod found all along the SA coast. Plenty at Hallett Cove and further south. Also found a lot over in Port Lincoln.
  9. I have seen pictures of a 58cm bream pulled from the coorong with a bragmat but the biggest I've heard from WL was around 45cm.
  10. Not current news but from the jetty there's tommies if you burley up as well as some squid on clear weather days around dawn or dusk. Sometimes there is a few snook lurking at night too. Other species from the jetty are salmon and some KG whiting if you can cast into the sand patches off the end.If the weather is really top-class head down past the jetty near the cliffs as it is prime flathead looking territory. Also the chance of some more salmon trout and tommies as you head around near the cliffs.
  11. Headed down south to the Fleurieu Peninsula today with Southie to chase some carp for fun on our bream gear. Day started slowly but the fish came on the bite around 11:30am. We managed to land 7 carp to 55cm, with many bustoffs either at the net or getting snagged throught the reeds. Was a good day even though the weather wasnt the greatest.
  12. I caught my PB salmon on the 2nd largest waxwing in Sandeel. And have caught plenty of STs on the 2nd smallest. Tried it on snook and had a few follows but it's difficult to work them from on top of a jetty as they're subsurface.
  13. Awesome conditions, awesome insight, awesome catch!! You sure have the YFW on a string Des. Still yet to catch me a legal one, although I have not really put in as much time as I wish or should.
  14. I got crashed on by one or two larger waves. Luckily the weather was conducive for it. Was a good day out Southie, got me my first tommie caught on a lure.
  15. Hey bud, I used my bream set up when I went chasing mullies in the Coorong. Shimano Mex Raider 722 finesse bream 1-4kg, with a Stradic 1000FJ and 5lb powerpro BiteMotion. I have only caught fish up to 51cm (PB) but haven't hooked any bigger ones. They are a really good fight on the ultra light bream stick.I would suggest a Symetre 2500FL and a maybe a Shimano Sahara 2-4kg rod. Or a Raider 2-4kg rod.
  16. Shimano Sienna combo from BCF's latest catalogue at $70 plus some briad = $100, also there is the Shimano solstace/catana combo in BCF for $99 atm. I would go with 4-8lb braid too.
  17. For the snook, use either 60-100mm hardbody lures that can dive a bit off the jetty. A straight retrieve with a few pauses or twitches depending on whether it is suspending or floating should be okay. I use xrap 08s off brighton jetty near the lights and twitch and pause them. For YFW, poppers are good when there is a school visible. However, live beach/tube/sandworms are a good option and should get results, but there are others who are more experienced in this area.
  18. Berkley jerkshads 5"Zman StreakZ Curl TailZ 4"Squidgy flick bait 110mm Pillie or evil minnow colour. There's plenty to choose from but anywhere from about 90-140mm should cover it.
  19. NickD, 8lb would be fine for targeting slightly larger stuff.
  20. I use the lighter stuff 5lb for all my luring including snook. And it has held up well, even landed a 9lb carp on it no worries.
  21. The Shimano Aernos FA is a different reel from the Aernos advertised. The one advertised is the Aernos XT, a similar budget reel to the Sienna. The Sienna however has more bearings (+1) and is differently shaped. The Sienna has similar shaping to the sedona and cazna, other budget reels. The rods that are available are as follows:1. http://www.bcf.com.au/online-store/products/Shimano-Sonic-Pro-Spin-Rod-3-5kg-662SP.aspx?pid=121785&variant=true#Combo - 3-5kg, 6'6" = general combo2. http://www.bcf.com.au/online-store/products/Shimano-Sonic-Pro-Spin-Rod-7-2-4kg-2-Piece.aspx?pid=121786&varia
  22. I would suggest to have a look at BCF's latest catalogue. Can get a Sienna plus the same Shimano sonic pro rods for the same price. I have the Sienna as a backup reel and it's a good budget family-type reel. You also get a can cooler bag with it
  23. +1 for the Sedona.Could also have a Fin-nor rampage 6000 at $80, or a Daiwa laguna 4000 at $60.
  24. Also don't forget that you can help to erase some memory in the line by placing the line off the spool and into a bucket of warm water for a while. It helps to reduce the memory by warming the line up slightly.
  25. From Perth, I would suggest looking at Rottnest Island as the samsons over there are pretty large.
