Gimbles reacted to nickmav in i phone apps for fishing
just discovered two great apps for fishing.fishing times lite is a free app giving you major snd minor fishing times for the day as well as tide time ans moon/ sun rises and setting times.its free , and greeat but only gives you todays info. fishing times pro for $1.99 gives you the same info but you can look ahead at any date.it helps if you have your location service switched on, from there you can acceess a map and ask for info for anywhere in oz.also found shralp tide, free again, and gives you tide times. hold the phone on its side and it gives you a running graph of the tide, allowing you to scroll over the graph pinpointing time and exact height at that time.it allows you to look a few days in advance too.again, switch your location service on.hope this is handy or maybe its already well known.nicksure apps exist for android phones too, just google it and find them

Gimbles reacted to Ranger in cleaning the bbq top
If it's been sitting for a long time, my guess would be that rust and dirt is the big issue. For this I'd be hitting it with the wire brush to remove as much as possible, giving it a good wash down afterwards, then replace the hotplate and heat the thing up.Give it a good smearing with oil and wipe it all down again with newspaper.Repeat the oiling and wiping a few times until there is no more rust appearing on the newspaper. After this keep it covered with a light layer of oil to prevent rust, and then use the thing more often! Each time you use it, it should only need to be heated and then wiped with a piece of paper, before it's ready to use.Clean it with a scraper and paper after use, and always finish with a light smear of oil.

Gimbles reacted to spinyeel in Safety First
Sad to hear this. One of the first lessons that I learned as a junior in Western Districts Angling Club, back in the 1970s,was to sit and watch a rock fishing spot for at least 20 minutes before you decide to fish it and to NEVER turn your back on the ocean.A lesson that I have never forgotten.

Gimbles reacted to afishyfish in LICE AT ST KILDA
No easy way that Ive heard of or know of SLUsually the calmer, warmer nights seem the worst though I believe baitmate can help to stop them devouring baits, but then you'd prob have their phosphorescent spots on that instead, probably scaring fish away :S

Gimbles reacted to bjorn2fish in thinking of changing from mono to braid
I use a the double uni knot for braid to leader seems to do the trick, only know two knots, not sure what the other one's called :laugh:A link to a few pics of the double uni http://www.fishing-khaolak.com/knots/double_uni_steps.htmlhttp-~~-//www.youtube.com/watch?v=Xk_VUb-dOQo&feature=related

Gimbles reacted to Nikhum in thinking of changing from mono to braid
I like using an improved albright on light gear up to 10lb. On the heavier lines I use FG knot, quite complex and time consuming but very smooth through the guides. there are other good ones out there too. Up to you which one you can tie easiest and fastest.Hey Brent61 good point there. I'm actually wanting to go back to mono too after I lost a big Mulloway to structure a few weeks ago, I might have had a better chance with mono.

Gimbles reacted to Ranger in need help with bream!!!!
They most certainly will, and marinas are great places to find them, simply due to all the structure encountered there.A marina is all rock walls, pylons, pontoons, hulls, sheltered waters, etc......what self respecting bream could resist. In the marina stay quiet, keep your shadow off the water, move only your casting arm, drop your lure as close as possible to the structure you are fishing, and use the lightest jighead you possibly can (even unweighted).

Gimbles reacted to Ranger in need help with bream!!!!
A bream is a bream, and you landed your target species using the techniques and equipment you wanted to learn!Everyone has to start somewhere, the first few are the hardest, and many give it away before ever landing one. Now that you've got a start, you'll find that they start coming much easier, and I'm sure it wont be long before you start posting pics of those bumper blue lip horses! Keep up the good work, and keep us posted! PS: Daiwa is the ducks guts when it comes to bream gear...let's just keep that between ourselves though!
