Hopefully I will be following you around and be there to witness these feats. I also am going to use the fly rod a bit and chase carp and schoolies on fly.

Got into a few average size bream this morning in the Port.
Very difficult conditions, and impossible to detect bites.
Kept at it for a couple of hours, til I got itchy eyes from all the dust.

Conditions were quite different to Saturday. However water temps are holding and the fish are around.
Caught my bag today. Size a bit smaller than Saturday. I kept fish 30-37cm . Released plenty under 30cm. Plenty of Trouties around as well.

You can still catch plenty on the dodge tides. Find the spots that they will hold on in a dodge.

My favourite 2-4kg combo at the moment is a Shimano Catana Nano 8ft rod matched up with a Quantum Smoke PT25 spooled with Fins XS 8lb.
Caught everything on it, from bream and salmon up to 5+kg carp, it really loads up nicely with a big fish, yet is still unbelievably light and will cast a mile even with small 5g hardbodies.
The Quantum reels have one of the smoothest drags I have ever used, never miss a beat, and look awesome.
Might be slightly over-budget though......rod-$100,....reel-$180.....not to forget the braid which will be another $50.
    Food for thought.

We smashed the snapper a few weeks ago locally.  Had our bag of over 60's in no time.  Changed over to light gear and plastics and C&R for a while - awesome fun.  Shifted to another spot in 15m of water looking to fill our bag of ruggers and kept on getting smashed by more big ones - what a problem  .  All fish were 65-85cm.  Just been too busy to write a report

So people are getting out there and catching a few fish, that's good. I think some of you have to write up some reports

I didn't have time to get out for a fish this weekend but I'll try to get out somewhere during the week if I can.

Fished the Murray near Cobdogla today for a couple of hours. All baitfishing, mostly a mix of tigers and earthworms.
8 callop, 4 carp and 3 silver perch, there were also some shrimp turning up in the pots which helped nail the 2 biggest callop at 52cm and 47cm.
Will have more time next weekend, planning an overnighter with my swag, hoping to get a decent 24hr fishing sesh and a cricket score catch.
Really impressed with the way natives are outnumbering carp in the river lately, both the silvers and the goldens all looked in prime condition, and I even let my old man keep 3 callop for a feed, which being a C&R fisho myself hasn't happened for years.
Made him gut and clean the fillets up, and chances are he will eat most of it....
Should be back in the salty stuff for a bream sesh during the week, hoping the warmer weather is firing them up.

Seems that there's not many reports going up at the moment, come on there has to be a few fishing trips going on in this great weather we're having!

So what's everyone catching or attempting to catch?

I might go for some squid and have a big bait out as well. I've heard reports of gar getting caught land based too so might give that a bash also.

I went out mid week for not much but a couple decent tommies and a small trevally. I almost landed a squid on a small long shank I had out with a tiny piece of pilchard on it and was pinged off by what I reckon must have been a salmon but who knows, it was in close to the rocks where it made it's escape, lucky bugger.

    Labor’s new recreational fishing opportunities

More infrastructure at local fishing spots, opening reservoirs to recreational fishers and a new artificial reef are part of Labor’s package of measures to enhance the experience of recreational fishing.

Premier Jay Weatherill has announced a re-elected Labor Government would provide $3.25 million in funding for the new measures.

“We want to encourage more community use of our beautiful marine parks,” Mr Weatherill said.

“So we will be offering grants to support recreational fishing in and around our marine parks.

“One in six South Australians will wet a line at least once this year.

“What we’re introducing will enhance the experience in a number of ways.

“We will offer regional support grants to groups such as clubs and local councils to improve infrastructure at local spots, such as toilets, camping areas and fish measuring stations – or even upgrades to boat ramps.”

Sustainability, Environment and Conservation Minister Ian Hunter said Labor also would partner with RecFish SA to find a suitable location for the placement of an artificial reef.

“Artificial reefs are becoming increasingly popular around Australia and overseas,” Mr Hunter said.

“Ecologically sustainable, artificial reefs have a number of advantages - they can increase tourism and create new places to fish for locals, as well as benefit businesses nearby, all while providing new habitats for marine species.

“This initiative will involve a reef installed off our coast, and the results of associated research will inform future decisions about further reefs for our marine environment.”

Mr Hunter said Labor would also lead the way in opening off-line reservoirs, such as Warren, Bundaleer, Tod and Hindmarsh Valley, to recreational fishing.

“This is another great example of an initiative that has multiple benefits,” Mr Hunter said.

“By opening up access to reservoirs that are not connected to our drinking water supply, recreational fishers can add a new place to their fishing destinations, tourism can expand in the areas where they are located, and noxious species such as carp can be reduced.”

Labor will contribute funding towards minor infrastructure around reservoirs such as toilets and pathways, helping local councils benefit from opening up access to previously unfished locations.

The new measures are described on page 130 of Labor’s Plan for South Australia 2014 – 2018.

    Absolutely bring them to SA.
Build them at Mawson Lakes, Wynn Vale Dam, Garden Island, West Lakes and maybe Outer Harbour.
Just another reason we need RFLs in this state to fund this type of fishing infrastructure.
I've seen a guy in a wheelchair fishing Largs Jetty many moons ago, said he preferred Largs coz it's shorter.
We definitely need to make it easier for disabled folks to fish, close to car parks too.

I was up in Darwin last week and noticed this:

Unfortunately, it was vandalised to some degree (old story of the minority ruining it for the majority), but it is still a serviceable fishing platform.

Tinker reacted to bjorn2fish in My first attempt at DIY berley blocks
I finally got around to making a batch of berley blocks.

Ingredients included old bait like cockles, a few weird looking pillies, salmon trout, salmon frames, tommies, fresh prawn shells, squid, some old snapper  and stale bread, I think that was about it.

Some nice containers ready to use. I saved a few round containers so the berley could go in those small, screw top, plastic berley pots.

My berley BEAST! Ok not a beast. I actually chipped the blades on the fish frames

The berley mix looked awesome and sooo very tasty.

    Packed and ready to freeze.

Now I just have to get out on the water and give them a go

I'll definitely have to make more at some stage.

    Nice work mate, solid fish.
Bream were hard to get yesterday, only managed a few all day, but was fishing new territory so it was more about learning.
Biggest went 38cm, which put a huge smile on my face. Caught on a whole live bloodworm, sucked it in like a lollipop.
Eager to get back into them next weekend.

headed down to my second home yesterday (the onk) and decided to target some bream. Arrived around 3 o'clock and bites were slow at first as per usual but managed a few small bream and a 35cm st. Once the light started getting low and the tide came up it was on! consistent bream of around 30cm every cast antil bang the baitrunner is screaming with a good fish which measured in at 36cm. Next cast and again the baitrunner was hit and this fish was solid. eventually got it in and it was a very fat and healthy 40cm bream. My third from the onk and was stoked! After that i had to leave them biting... Was a good session with all fish being released

Tinker reacted to bjorn2fish in Let's help get some funding for fishers!!!
The Lower Murray Lure Fishing Club (LMLFC) would like to educate local youth and their families on how to fish in the river Murray and care for this environment and its native inhabitants but funding would really help this even go a long way.

So everyone please follow the link and vote. http://yoursay.sa.gov.au/ideas/take-me-to-the-river-fishing-education-for-riverland-youth

    A little about the event.

Take Me to the River - Fishing education for Riverland Youth

    Problem we're solving
Providing life skills not previously learnt, such as different fishing techniques and how to improve and maintain the local environment. Encouraging young people to get outdoors and meet other like-minded individuals. All of this will help generate a sense of community possibly not already experienced and build self-confidence where it previously may have been lacking.

    How we're solving it:
Organised and structured events at different locations on the lower Murray river. Members of the Lower Murray Lure Fishing Club would hold talks and demonstrations on native fish and their ecology, sustainable fishing, care for the environment and habitat restoration. Club members would also take local youths out fishing in their boats for the day. Donations of equipment and gear to all participants.
