  1. Surely this deserves its own post Ale, dont leave us hanging!
  2. I love this topic Jack as for the past two years I've been keeping a very detailed spreadsheet of Snapper captures that includes not only my own captures but any reliable capture data that can help show a pattern to their movements and feeding habits. The moon phases are most interesting but also the Snappers ability to be at the same time or within a week or so is Impressive all driven by spawning or following food sources in the gulf. Unfortunately I dont gut to many big fish any more so I'm unable to know with any certainty what they've been eating, but over time I will be able to determine
  3. We had a large Snapper re-caught after it was tagged and released by a SA Red Taggers member only five days later. So in theory, yes fish providing they are properly looked after and released in good condition, I think some fish would be feeding again in as little as a day or two.Brett
  4. :cheer: :cheer: Hi Luke, one persons version of light is sometimes not what others consider light. My light weight outfit is a 3000 sized Shimano Ultegra with 15lb Power Pro.Of course you could go lighter for example if you were say a yak angler who only really expected to catch snapper to approximately 70 odd cm's, and in theory you could run 10lb or 12lb braid and 20lb leader, but for me I would be sticking with 14 or 15lb braid and 20lb leader. Just incase you hook the odd BIG RED that wants to take you to the reef!
  5. Nice work Grego' date=' and a leagal too [/quote']Leather jackets take soft plastics all the time, in fact on the w/end just gone, I hooked about 3 pygmie leatherjackets in a row. They were hitting my 6" power worm.Nice Catch Grego. my best is four KG's in one session on live tube worm. all released - that was years and years ago though
  6. If you get a Stella T-curve combo for your b.day im going to get your mum to adopt me! And Jack will be sobbing in the corner!
  7. I have to say my fave is flathead. its just the tastiest fish around, but I really find it hard justifying taking a feed of flatties here in SA due to the relatively low number of good size fish we have compared to other states.so probably helps if I have no snapper in the freezer if I get a flatty I will probably keep it but if I have some snapper fillets then the flatty will get released..lol.I also find Yelowfin whiting to be extremely good too. Dont think I would release any of these if I get some this summer.and as you all know Im partial to some fresh Snapper fillets cooked on the bbq wi
  8. Forget the Jewel, that warpig cake is off the charts :cheer:
  9. Testing conditions were an understatement Grego. The tide was FULLY cranking! and it still got the fish in!
  10. Jinkai is the Ducks GUTZ. I use that and Schneider as my leader as followsSoft Plastics = 20lbBait - 40lbsome Live baiting I use 60lb.If fishing Spencers gulf where the Snapper arent as fussy or spooky I always use 60lb for my traces.
  11. Id by giving Mully a ring and asking if he would consider taking $250.00Mully has one up for sale in the buy sell swap section on here. link belowhttp://www.strikehook.com/forum/64-buy-sell-swap-or-trade/230317-brand-new-in-box-shimano-sustain-2500-fgI know its the top end of your Budget but the Sustains are very very nice.Ive got a Sustain 4000 and love mine. Ive thought about grabbing a 2500 as well because they are so nice.
  12. I dont BLAST fish, but becuase my baits are that enticing to fish they pretty much don't stand any chance of not being caught! For this reason I let most of mine go.Luckily mine are still generally alive, and haven't had their heads blown off..LOLBut seriously though, well done for catching these scumbags.
  13. Hey Chadwick, how many mm's are the micro vibes as I have a R2S Microvibe that is 35mm long and was thinking of giving it a go on some big Onk bream??
  14. You really have to ask me what I will be targetting this summer? LOL :S :SI might actually target some schoolies as well this summer in the ONKaSTINKA and also some breambo's Plus I will be spinning with my new kingfish rod off of Rapid Bay Jetty trying for an elusive Rat King or bigger
  15. Yes I am in some situations' date=' but I'm probably of the thought that just because a fish swims away doesn't mean it lives to fight another day.[/quote']Yes this is so true, but look at it this way every fish that goes back in the water and survives is one more fish that survives to breed and to be caught again, or can be part of the food chain. The problem is when a large fish is thrown back by someone from 8m up and it dies or is filmed kicking around because they didnt release it with care. Then there would be all manor of media attention
  16. Regardless of the demographic of who uses the jetties, catch n release may be a major determining factor in if Recreational fisherman would get any use on this platform. We need to look seriously at this method. Normally in any other point in history, we would say no way could we make it C&R only and its a stupid idea, but the reality is these days that with the Greens, Divers etc pushing Conservation, we must adapt and adapt fastI am sure that the average fisherman can get the hang of C&R fishing. In regards to Large fish like Kings and Snapper being tagged, its really not much differ
  17. That is an interesting comment Rotare - are you in favour of catch n release? A good point though some steps would definately be needed so people could release fish closer to the water giving them a greater chance of survival. A board with catch n release tips could also be added. Keeping the tips very simple of course so your average mum dad and kids can understand them
  18. If we do seek use of Stanvac as compensation for the implementation of Marine Parks, receeding see wead lines etc, then we should make it a completely CATCH N RELEASE jetty. So then we can not be accused of having too great an impact on the sea life and we could then say that it is effectively going to remain an untouched paradise.I know I could cope easily with a C & R policy on the jetty.
  19. Great pics. if they dont make you wanna get out and chase trout nothing will.
  20. Hey Tommy2Toes, I am currently using a Sustain 4000FG at the moment for my Snapper fishing with 20lb Schneider on it and love it! It is one sick weapon!I uprgraded from the Stradic CI4 last year, and to tell you the truth both are fantastic reels. The Sustain is very very nice and is definately and upgrade though. It just feels smoother and for some reason more solid.I cant fault mine at all and I reckon they look sick.Heres a pic for you. Its matched to a T-Curve 701 Snapper 5-8KG
  21. Where did you read this TB? I would love a link to that news!Brett
  22. Lets hope he has a major announcement as we are already aware that the ship may not sail for upto 30days whilst Marine Safety Queensland surveys the ship and investigates the registration.
  23. Tks Del, I tried that but for some reason the sound on mine isnt working! Might be my browser or something as Ive made sure I turned the sound up but it didnt work.Brett
