Panga got a reaction from gregtech in Calls to ban sea nets after thousands of dead fish found dumped off Ardrossan jetty
We are getting off the topic imo but here is my say.

We do need change, yes  but in SA that is a slow process and not at all realistic let alone guaranteed. IMO

We all need to discussed opions here but we need to do it with respect to others as we are all amateur fisho's with a common interest.
Sure we have different views but no need the attack fellow members. Not a good look IMO.
In Vic they have a fishing show on tv that I have seen from time to time, in SA not so and the reason is we do not have population to warrant it, nor the backing from the government (they are closing ch 44)
I feel more polies should get out fishing and realize that they can, relax, clear their heads and see what life has to offer on the wet H20.
Licence  ?  Yes and No  ?

Yes if it helps us, the regular rec fisherperson and makes us heard but we see where our money is spent. Also have a body in the govt that is pro-active for us all and is accountable to all question to stakeholders (us) be that where monies are spent and visions moving on.

No because I (imo) do not trust this govt as they could see the money spent elsewhere. Also what about the mums and dads that go away with the grand parents, children, cousin's and so on for a seaside holiday ? They need a licence or face a fine, remember this is a once in a year trip. That makes it great for the government but what about the family and if they get caught without a licence ? Holiday over and sowed but something they were not aware they need.

    Cheers

PS  KS and Doobie you can come over for a fish on my boat, it is big enough.

Yeah, true Jayman, we shouldn't blame all netters for the sake of a few idiots.

And for those few idiots they 'generally' get off with a slapped wrist, which is no deterrent to them doing something wrong again or for those others to keep trying to get away with doing wrong.

Most would know about this topic and most would have seen the article. Have you voted 'YES' or 'NO' to the call to ban sea nets in the Gulf of St Vincent? You can find the poll on the article page and also view the results.

Calls to ban sea nets after thousands of dead fish found dumped off Ardrossan jetty   CRAIG COOK, The Advertiser October 11, 2017 7:01pm

THOUSANDS of dead fish dumped by the BHP jetty at Ardrossan have caused outrage among recreational fishermen.
The Advertiser has been told the catch of around 400kg of Australian salmon was released by a commercial fisherman based at Stansbury when his nets snagged on the jetty.
Danny Simpson, executive director of Recfish SA, that took video of the dead fish lying in shallows, said his members “strongly condemn” the dumping.

”He appears to have dumped them there and just disappeared which we regard as a pretty irresponsible act.” he said.

“From our perspective this is outrageous behaviour and why we want to see sea nets removed from Gulf St Vincent.”

He questioned why the fisherman was netting so close to shore.

“We want to know why he was apparently netting in front of the jetty of a major Yorke Peninsula township,” he added.

Still grab of part of the huge fish catch seen at the bottom of the Ardossan Jetty.

The Marine Fishers Association (MFA), representing the interests of South Australia’s 300 Marine Scalefish Fishery (MSF) statutory licence holders, said one of its members was responsible for the dumping.

MFA executive officer, Nathan Bicknell, said in a Facebook statement that “gear failure” and the operator’s decision to “operate outside industry norms” were to blame.

Clarifying the statement, Mr Bicknell told The Advertiser: “The operator’s decision was to keep his whole catch and that’s how he got himself into mischief.

“There’s nothing illegal in what he did but there is strong peer pressure to do the right thing.”

Chief executive of Yorke Peninsula Council, Andrew Cameron, who lives in Ardrossan said he was seeking more information from staff in the town but was “extremely disappointed” with such “irresponsible behaviour”.

RecSA member David Bryant posted on Facebook:
“Absolutely disgusting, remove his netting license, problem solved, total disregard for our marine life and local fishers. This behavior (sic) is way too common from netters. I call to ban all netting in any areas close and around our gulfs. Absolutely horrified”

Tragic waste ... around 400kg of prized Australian salmon, similar to the one above, was released by a commercial fisherman when his nets snagged on the jetty.
A statement from the Department of Primary Industries and Regions said: “PIRSA received reports regarding a significant number of dead Western Australian salmon near the southern Ardrossan jetty on Monday and dispatched fisheries officers to the area to make inquiries to determine the cause and circumstances.
“The commercial fisher responsible subsequently identified himself and has assisted fisheries officers with their inquiries.

“Based on the available information, it appears that a combination of gear failure and poor fishing practices resulted in the unintended release of part of a school of salmon caught by the fisher about 300 metres from the BHP jetty.

“We understand the fisher initially unsuccessfully attempted to retrieve all of the released fish and has since returned to the area to collect what fish he can.

“Although a rare occurrence, PIRSA is none the less disappointed with this incident and will continue to work closely with industry to ensure all fishers adopt best practice commercial fishing operations in SA.”

Pâté. Love it or hate it. I like it and the missus loves it which comes in..... handy .

Most stuff you can buy is c**p, with a few, often expensive exceptions. So i set about making my own and it's actually pretty easy and freakin delicious.

I have evolved the following recipe from a few others to personal taste and final quantity:

    Pâté
    250g cleaned chicken livers
    75g butter
    1/2 red onion, diced
    1 small garlic clove, crushed
    6 peppercorns
    2 whole cloves
    3 allspice berries
    4 coriander seeds
    3 anise stars
    60ml port
    60ml cream

    Jelly
    60ml water
    60ml port
    1tsp gelatine power

    Pâté
In a spice grinder/mortar & pestle grind: peppercorns, allspice, cloves and coriander seeds until fine and set aside.  Melt 1/3 of the butter in a skillet over medium-high heat; when foam subsides, add onion & garlic, cook until softened. Add ground spices & anise when onions are nearly cooked.
Remove onion mix to heatproof bowl. Add another 1/3 butter to pan then livers; cook livers on one side until they begin to brown, about 2 minutes, then flip them and cook the other side. Be sure to keep heat relatively high so that the outside of livers sears and inside stays pink. Think ‘medium-rare’, you need that moisture.
Remove livers to bowl with onions. Add port to pan and use it to clean the pan. Add to bowl with onion, livers and their buttery juices, remaining butter and cream.
When cool enough, purée mixture until it is smooth – food processor or barmix in the same bowl.
Scoop pâté in ramekins, smooth top. Set aside. Jelly
Combine the port and water in a small, heatproof jug/cup. Sprinkle the gelatine over the top and stand until the gelatine is softened. Heat in microwave and stir until gelatine has dissolved, and let it cool. Slowly pour jelly on top the pâté, over the back of a spoon. Refrigerate for at least 2 to 3 hours or until fully set. Preferably a day or 2.
Serve with bread or crackers, cheese and a bottle of red. Enjoy

NO More spending for me after $120k that is enough imo that's a lot off fish you can buy. But it is about the journey, the challenge and you know how fresh the fish are. I love the challenge.

That is when I went for the phone. He came back and circled underneath the boat for a while so I got those pics.

I borrowed some long handled razor fish tongs from a friend over here on Yorks as I have one area that when I walk for crabs (great fun) but the dam razor fish are every where so I thought I need to take a few out in the very near future. Hence the tongs from a friend.
Here is what they look like.

Then thinking about them....  the light in my small brain went on, I know it amazed me too.

They took about 10 minutes each to make and cost me about $5 each as I used s/s wire rope which I had and the handles are left over net handles that "friends" broke on ventures dabbing 4 gar. Got the idea from my crayfish diving days. Check it out as it will work and I can walk 4 crabs at the same time    Happy Days.

If you want to make them let me know (PM) or post here and I will let you know but it is easy. The handles knobs at the end are my old golf balls by the way

Trout fishing the hard to get to streams/creeks.. 17-9-17

Getting into some of these small streams & creeks can be quite testing..

Once there, well it's worth it most times..

I was sitting here today going through some of the 22,000 plus photos that I have taken over the years I've spent trout fishing rivers, streams & creeks around Tasmania since moving here back in March 2000. I know the majority trout fishers that fish the rivers normally go to the more accessible areas and rarely try the more difficult hard to get to little rivers, streams & creeks that are quite plentiful here. The majority of them run into the larger rivers and all contain trout of various sizes. Yes it can be quite tough getting through the dense foliage to get to one of these streams and keeping a lookout for snakes as well. It can take up to an hour of bush bashing just to reach a stream only to find out there's not enough water in it or there's no fish in the one that has plenty of flowing water.. That's just one of the minor downfalls with this type of fishing, then there's the times when the effort is well worth it and you'll find one that's holding trout. Most of them are are usually a dark tannin coloured streams & creeks and have held some nice browns of various sizes.. While going through my photos today I didn't realise how many of them were tough going with so many fallen trees, log jams etc on them. Now when I look back on it I feel I was very well rewarded for the effort put into it by catching some beautiful wild brown trout in them. Yes it was tough work and there were plenty of disappointing trips too, but that's what this type of fishing is all about isn't it...

One of the rewards of fishing these small streams/creeks..

And one of the many downfalls on them too...

This is where it can be tough on the old body..

But then, the hard work is worth it once again..

Peace & tranquility in a small stream..

Golden colours in this wild brown trout..

Another log jam, climb over it or go around it... Hmmm!!! I went the hard way.. "over it"

Another beautiful area on a small stream..

Doesn't get any better than this.. well it does really..

    cheers
    Adrian

Hey Panga, used to scallop/razor-fish dive a lot around Pt Vincent when I was younger & we used to pickle `em in jars of white vinegar after boiling `em up. If you want to cook `em up in breadcrumbs or similar just leave `em on a saucer/plate out of the jar for a short period & then do whatever you want with `em as the vinegar dissipates a lot when they`re removed. The vinegar pickles `em & extends their shelf life to basically the life of the vinegar. Have had them in jars for over a year & good as gold. My favourite was to slice `em up & put on fresh bread with pepper on `em. Scallop/razor-fish sannies are UNREAL. Had my own hookah so we used to get more than you could eat at any one time, & by pickling them no need to refrigerate & they can be stored for long periods to be consumed long after the holidays were over. Same applies to crab meat, although I never seemed to have that many crabs accumulated that didn`t get eaten, put in jars & survived the holidays & the trip home.

    Cheers
