lofty64 reacted to hooklinestinker in California Golden Trout - beautiful!
I just came across this beautiful specimen while browsing through Reddit, and thought it was pretty enough to share. According to the comments, it's either a California Golden Trout, or a palomino trout; either way, you'd have to get a kick out of reeling something like this in

lofty64 reacted to Bloodworm in Bloodworms for Bloodworm
Headed out to "Moonta North" on Tuesday evening with my trusty deckie, three days after the New Moon to see if the bloods were running and to check out the new lights on the boat.
Launched a few hours before dark to sus out the spot and then moved out about 5kms for a little fishing till sunset. Did not expect to catch anything due to the timing of the Bloodworm run but what else do you do apart from look at the stunning scenery from the wind farms to the start of the Flinders Ranges. Expected to catch a few squid but surprise, surprise George decided to come to the party and had enough for a feed before we had to head off.
Moved back to spot x and sat around chatting and adding layers of clothes until about an hour after high tide before switching on the lights.
We had some severe reservations about being out worming this night because there were ZERO boats out apart from a pro that was out wide. Do the locals know something we don't???? Are there no worms to be had on this perfect June night?????
No butterflies here.
Soon after turning on the lights we were again stunned by how alive the water was with small fast worms (I don't know what they are) and before long the first Bloodworm appeared out of the darkness. About 2 hours later we had about 4 litres of worms. We were allowed 8 litres but 4 was plenty and wanted to get back home by 2 am to get a few hours sleep
I will finish this report when I reduce the size of the pic files and let you know how we got on with the preserving and storage. Stay tuned.

Adrian, even your B/W photographic skills are amazing .....
Some of these pictures surely show clarity and depth better than a colour one would !
I think as Doobie said, that Snow covered Mountain, with the foreground fence in the water looks fantastic !!
Time you put together a Coffee Table Book ...

Totally agree. Sometimes B&W is s**ts all over colour.

As much as I like photos full of colour I also have a liking for black & white photos as there's just something to like about them..
maybe it's because they bring back some good memories of days gone by when all photos were in black and white and even sepia...
Today's cameras bring out the best in black and white too... Any way here's a few to start with and I'll add to the list every so often..
The bottom ones are of me when I was a little fella.. boy that was quite some time ago..

lofty64 reacted to SaltyFlyer in Repaired broken Daiwa lure..
Adrian , that is a cracking good looking repair...
If anything, I would hazard a guess, that, the repaired lure might run a little deeper, due to the extra angle on the new bib.
Well done, for finding all the little bits to do such a repair.

lofty64 reacted to Meppstas in Repaired broken Daiwa lure..
Some time back during the brown trout season I had three new Daiwa Gekkabijin Yoguri 4F hard body lures of which two were lost to fish taking then into snags under water and the last one
finished up with a broken bib thanks to me... It was during a session while fishing low water that had a lot of cotton like algae in it and it kept fouling the lure. After some forty minutes of fishing and
cleaning the algae from the lure on every retrieve I belted the lure on the water surface to clean it the quick & easy way. Trouble is, by doing that it broke the small bib off the lure making it useless.
So today I thought I'd have a go at repairing it myself by making a bib and gluing it in place. Using a hacksaw blade I made a small cut where the bib had broken off flush just in front off the eye and then found a small thin piece of clear plastic which I hand filed to a shape that I thought may work. Didn't think to get one of the new replacement lures out to see what they looked like which was dumb.. any way made on and glue it into place and it came up reasonably well.. I think it did as I'm yet to test it out and I will do that once the season reopens on 5th August.. here's a photo of the original lure and the one that's been repaired.
The repaired lure has a little more angle to it than the new lure..

lofty64 reacted to snapperhead in Who's having a flick over the weekend?
I went out in my Hobie and found a very co-operative school of salmon around the kilo size that kept me entertained for 3 or so hours until the fading light and a 3k paddle home had me leaving em biting. I ended up scaling back to a light 1-3kg rod and had a ball. I dont know how many I ended up getting and releasing but it certainly was what I needed to to finish my 4 weeks off......back to work tomorrow
Chuck and I are going to go back next week and have a crack at them on fly. He has a new 6 weight rod that needs christening and I reckon this would be just the thing to do it
I also got to use my gopro 5 and got some great footage now I just have to learn how to edit
cheers

lofty64 reacted to Meppstas in Thistle seed heads..
The top photo of a thistle seed head (or what ever you'd call it) was taken quite some time ago in a paddock as I was heading to a river.. the thing is the following two photos taken this morning while heading through the paddocks once again to a river are of the same type of thistle..
What I didn't know was that on cool mornings they are closed.. learn something new every day don't we.. photo taken with my trusty fishing Canon SX150IS compact camera..

Took this photo this morning, didn't come out all that good as I only used my small Canon camera that I use for trout fishing..
Didn't have time to grab my good camera and set it up as the moon was setting too fast at the time.. May get up early tomorrow and see what it's like.
Cheers
