lofty64 reacted to Meppstas in Small Daiwa spin reels Vs Shimano?
Well here's all my light weight trout reels that I use on my Daiwa Presso ULS 1-3kg rods 6' & 6'6'' & Okuma Celilo ULS 1-3kg 6'6'' & 6' rods.
Well balanced set ups, reels all filled with a .18 4lb clear mono line.. Very happy with them..
Daiwa Ageas 2004H also have a MX2004H Gekkabijin reel which is much the same as the Ageas
This little Crest reel is set up on a Daiwa presso 5'6'' rod for trout fishing small tight creeks & streams
Daiwa Revros 1003 & I also have two 2004H ones.
Okuma Ceymar C-10 (small reel)
Okuma Helios SX20

Thing is lofty, I could show you a picture of a massive x fish on a certain reel, yet still Not rate it as highly as another reel I've used purely based on user friendliness and a certain level of luck being needed to land a decent fish.
I've just had a quick scroll through my phone gallery, was going to upload photos but it is a bit much work... any way.
BG
8kg snapper + others
75cm snook
25lb murray cod + others
Surf salmon to 45 cm and trolled fish to 8lb
Big Callop
Aird
Mulloway to 80 something cm + many many more
Big redfin plus many more
Big carp
52cm Waitpinga salmon
Rainbow trout
KG whiting to 50ish cm
Many cast salmon to 52cm
Bream to 42cm
Seido
Big carp galore
Heaps of school Mulloway to 70cm
Redfin big and small
Big 3lb plus rainbow trout
Kg whiting and pan snapper
Symetre
Lots of yellowfin whiting including 40 + cm fish
Big carp to 3ft long
Rainbow trout to 6lb
Redfin
Bream to 35cm
Now all those reels have caught good fish, but I would recommend the symetre ahead of the Aird and seido purely as it is just as capable and has been a finer reel to use, and hence has been used in more finesse applications. The BG by contrast is a beast of a reel in its' build, but that's why I tend to use it on bigger targets even if it isn't that much larger than the others. It just isn't as good to use and I don't need that full aluminum construction etc etc on fish that I Chase on flick sticks; just as I don't think underpants will by his description.
Bloody long type up but I hope I got the message across.

Was lucky enough to get up to the Kimberley again recently. This time we sailed from the King George river back to Darwin over the course of a week. Here's a couple of hot bites we experienced.

lofty64 got a reaction from Squid Inc. in Carp for bait and burley?
I was out one evening ,and the fishing was a bit slow ,so I said to my son lets get into some chicken wings which I had cooked the day earlier , so munging on these yummy wings and chucking all bits into the water , and this is all while I was chucking out a steady stream of berley , and then we had a good bite , and ended up with 6 nice snapps before it became to rough , once home ,and unloaded and started cleaning the snapps ,the biggest one had 6 chicken wing bits in its guts , true garbage eaters ….when they are on the chew .

lofty64 got a reaction from AuusieDave in Snapper fishing lessons - worth it?
Lots of time matey , try different areas , keep trying , and then try some more , fishing is hard some times , but if you put in the hard yards , you will find them .
I am still trying , but that's the beauty about fishing , trying to work it out 👍

lofty64 reacted to Meppstas in Snapper fishing lessons - worth it?
All I ever used for Snapper were Tommies, used to buy then whole in 5 kg lots (or what I caught) then filleted them unscaled on the way out to where I anchored & fished for them, used the heads & guts for burley.. Had plenty of success on the Snapper with just the Tommie Ruff as bait.. A good spot was sitting off the end of the main Outer Harbor breakwater as well as the second channel marker, behind Torrens Island along the edge of the outer channel in line with the channel markers also gave up good size snapper.. always fished at night for them in those areas.. I'm going back a very long time now, but there's still no reason you wont catch them there.. unless there's been some rule changes..
cheers

lofty64 reacted to Meppstas in Wild brown trout in a tannin stream..
Here's a six minute video I made using the video of my Canon camera a week ago, only problem is I can't get the action shots of hooking a trout with it...
Still it will give you an idea of what it is like fishing a small tannin stream more so than what a photo does I suppose.. I had to put it on YouTube to get it on the site..
cheers

lofty64 reacted to Meppstas in Liena, before & after..
Thanks lofty, the stretch of river in the third photo used to fish really well too, I here fished it twice last season and only caught five trout.. it will eventually fish much better. the only good outcome of the flood was that I can now get a lot further downstream (up to 3 kms) to what I could before the flood when it was near impossible to get through the scrub & dense foliage,,,
cheers
