Yesterday went to west lake for my first ever kayak fishing session. And some how I knock my rod into the water went for a swim but couldn’t get it back. Brought the rod and reel less than a month 🥲🥲 anyone had same experience ?

As previously stated, really it's the high end reels/rods that make most sense, those items under $300 here won't be any cheaper usually. But over that they can be half the price.
However, braid/leader can be way cheaper, so can most terminal tackle. If you do buy a reel it's often free freight, so always buy a reel with line.
And that's the main point, freight can kill the prices, so buying with mates might be the go or buy a lot at once.
I've had good results with digitaka.
Be warned though, there is no warranty, however Japanese shops are typically very honest and will try to help if they can.
I'll post a few of my prime picks later.

I got my wife a new reel, a nice Emeraldas MX 2500, and she wanted pink so I went with Platypus X9 20lb which says on the packet .25mm. When I only managed to fit 40m I thought I'd better investigate. It's supposed to be 0.25mm. The green thicker one is Sufix 832 30lb and is supposed to be 0.29mm. The thin green is Daiwa Morethan PE0.8 (JDM) and is PE1.5, and should be .205mm according to the gou chart. The silver wire is 0.2mm, the copper wire is .15mm so the camera is calibrated correctly and should be for $30k. This is 100x zoom so the edges are not super sharp, but I measured it multiple times with different zoom/focus. Not happy the Platypus is  so far off stated size and is crazy thick for 20lb braid.
In the end I've put Shimano Pitbull+ (JDM/pink) PE0.8 on there which I'll measure later but it feels like the .148mm it's supposed to be and I fitted 150m per Daiwa spec.

Ahh sorry for passing on the Spam - I just joined a heap of Whiting pages and it didnt take long to came across it😉

Yeah I'd never pay $40 for one, as Ive already got stuff that that does the job  - I just thought it was a nice idea for whiting.

We were having difficulties measuring flatties on the week end, as my mate had thrown out my Genius measurer. So "measuring devices" were on my mind

My measurer is made out of roof gutter cleaner, so you can scoop little flatties off the floor for a quick measure, and flick them over board with out getting spiked - works on whiting too

That guys spams all the facebook fishing groups. IMHO a bit of PVC works just as well. You only want the tube to go a little past the head, say 10cm, then slice the PVC tube in half lengthways and mark the length lines on the inside of the PVC.
I have my doubts the fisheze will measure salmon trout or gar, or possibly anything other than whiting.

Just to be clear, the flash boost reflector is inside the jig and is on fine springs so wiggles for ages after any movement of the jig.

Holographic tape under the cloth is nothing new, I've got some like that over 20 years old, agree on their day it seems to make all of the difference, sometimes it doesn't, squid can be funny like that.
I've had good results with a bit of SP scent on the jag, seems quite effective. Squid really aren't that tricky most of the time though quality jags sometimes make the difference and you can rely on them being up for the job and to work properly.
Still reckon a Tommie teaser will outfish anything though.

How late am I to the party? Well, I figure I won't be the only one so others who are yet to discover the Sephia Flash Boost squid jigs, check them out. Tried one out yesterday, and even in the murky atm Seacliff area (some kind of shore works pumping sand into the cove) and a shit tide it still caught squid when the other lures did diddly squat.
Video doesn't do them justice but:

For most of my adult life I lived in the CBD in townhouses so I didn't have a garden. Six years ago I moved to just south of the city, renovated the existing house with a bulldozer and started afresh. One of the key aspects was a big veggie garden and 2x 20 thousand liter rainwater tanks (there is no storm water runoff from the site into the local waterways).
I'm not worried about the price of lettuces!

And when I'm not growing vegies, we go foraging for food.
