  1. I wouldn't worry about that at West Lakes. I never did & still don't.
  2. Definately a loop knot or an easy lure clip should sort the problem. Otherwise go to your local tackle store & ask them to show you how to set up. I reckon most people dont ask when buying a lure how to best set up. You should ask as any tackle store worth their weight will show you.
  3. Try the beaches at West Lakes. Tirana Reserve for one has mullet often. Simple paternosta rig with two hooks and a basic mince and semolina mix. Just a light sinker with berley cage or attach a berley cage to the sinker. Bread in the berley cage is all you need. No need to cast far either. Simple fishing.

    New rod

I was going to say a Beastmaster Rod. Excellent value for money & heaps of grunt. ....But you already spent the big bucks.
  5. I purchased a couple of these a few months back. They do work really well & decent quality. Great on Mulloway & Snapper. But like I said, I usually skin the larger fish with scales on or cook on BBQ with scales on & then just peel the skin off with the scales. Just like different gadgets to play with now & then!!!.
  6. All good, but get someone else to do the cleaning....problem solvered. . No need to scale fish over 3kg. Just skin or cook with scales on as they come off simple as with the skin & keep the moisture in. .
  7. No. They can migrate. Just google as there is a heap of info & research done for years & years. In the meantime, best to catch one!!
  8. The big Mulloway come into the Port to breed in winter and there is plenty of feed for them as well.
  9. My nephews run a Garmin 4" unit on their 12ft tinnie. Excellent clear unit with great detail for the price. I think a lot cheaper than $800?. Anyway, I always say, get the best unit you can afford.
  10. There you go... I've fished the river for 45 years & still do. Have not seen anything remotely unusual as depicted in the videos. I guess just wait and see!
  11. If you can still get a 4120 or 5120 one piece rods, they were my go to rods which I still have. Wilson brand I think. Great with either overhead, spinning reels or side casters.
  12. Looks like a mackerel mullet to me - (LBGTI fish)
  13. This is the old channel adjacent French Tom Creek & the other is the main channel pole by the looks.
  14. Always interesting to see underwater whats going on.
  15. Just another way of preparing snapper for the BBQ, pan, oven and even an AirFyer. The meat along the bones have more flavour & definitely alot more moist then a fillet. The meat just falls of the bone anyway so no issues with that or remnants. I use to do the cutlets alot previously. Eating qualities of a Snapper is overrated in my opinion. Having said that, I now do most of my snapper in a double alfoil wrap on the BBQ to keep the flesh moist which also allows you add whatever herbs/spices/condiments you like (scales on). Very easy to over cook Snapper & then the meat becomes very dry
  16. Much easier using a lure clip/swivel etc to your main line. I do not see any advantage tying line to line at all. Have always used clips/swivels etc from Garfish to Kingfish. Simple & effective in my opinion especially for changing rigs or replacing due to a snag or snap off. For example I use the twist on swivels for changing squid jags and for a multitude of other set ups. I like to keep it as simple as possible. Just choose the clips/swivels according to the fish you are targeting. Still catch fish.............
  17. You can get crab nets for $10 or less each if you search around. I suggest to save up. Yabbie nets are designed for yabbies unless you modify/hack them up. Not worth the effort in my opinion.
  18. Was going to suggest the same one. Have used it for years. Another interesting one is Windyty, wind map & forecast.
  19. Always happy to provide advice and assist fellow anglers.

  20. From Middle Beach is only 6-7 k's straight out. Yeah, good weather helps as you punch against the wind if heading back towards Black Pole late arvo. Better taking your new tinnie out in the Port River at the moment. Lots of Salmon Trout about, Mullet & Bream in the creeks and throughout the river, BIG Mulloway are there at night & even some decent Gar at night along the mangroves.
  21. Where are you launching from? From the Black Pole the area is roughly 15k's. Heaps of spots to fish in that area. There are many areas to fish before you even get to the Goanna grounds. Download Navionics web app maps from the internet. Its free.
  22. Was just wondering if it is a new boat that you would launch somewhere protected like Port River first to get used to the boat etc. Otherwise no problem. Good luck
  23. Why would you launch your new boat at beacon 19? unless you have had boats before.
  24. Do a search on this site as the topic has been brought up before. Also there are stacks of marks around that way on the net.
  25. You might want to have a look at Pt Broughton/Fishermans Bay or the other end at Corny Point. Both have excellent fishing & easy going places. I am fortunate in that I have relatives that have premises at both those locations which I can visit virtually anytime .
