  1. Forgot to say good luck with the strip down Raider. If you follow what others have said and lay parts down in order, you should get it back together alright. Especially with a schematic. If your not too confidant, then dropping into Rob Wilson will still be a lot cheaper than a new reel
  2. Ha ha. How true. Funny how every second hand reel and outboard motor has "recently had a service" just days before sale!!!!
  3. G'day swampfisher. I've got the Raider travel spin 663. It's 6'6" rated 2-4kg. It's a great little rod. I've used it for flicking light lures in fresh and salt, and while I'm no expert on finesse fishing, I think it performs well. Have also used it out in the boat for whiting, squid trevs etc. probably not what it was designed for but it could cast 3.5 squid jigs well and pulled up a double header of 38-40cm whiting no wuzzers. I actually bought a 2 piece rack raider for the boat so I could keep the travel rod for its intended purpose, and not trash it all the time. Depending where you look pe
  4. I've used the crystal as well and thought it was good value. Remember that fireline breaks well above its stated poundage, but is also a bit thicker than some other braids in the same line class. Cheers
  5. Labour pandering to the Greens for any sort of preference deal. Wow how surprising!!!No science needed to declare a sanctuary zone, but a warm fuzzy feeling for the lefty do gooders. Wow even more surprising!!!
  6. Fowlers. Christ how could I not remember that!!!! Biggest squid from a jetty ever
  7. KingscoteVenusLincoln EllistonToo hard to pick another one!!!
  8. Nice score. I reckon if it was the bloke who sits next to you he would have to known how much time you spend dreaming about fishing while at work
  9. We had the older Subaru forrester with the 2lt motor and it was a beautiful little car. You have to remember that it's an all wheel drive, not a 4wd. Having said that, the only real trouble we had in the sand was with clearance. Did a few trips to Lincoln national park and Ackermans creek with two yaks on top no worries. When the kids came along we had to trade for something bigger coz the baby capsule took up too much room!!
  10. Diesels are more expensive to get secondhand than a petrol. Maybe a petrol with gas would be a better buy for your budget. I'm personally not a fan of patrols, do I'll say a paj or hilux
  11. That is gold!!Maybe they would have caught more using hard lures instead of soft??!!!!!
  12. Yep, same as archerfish. The bleeding and cleaning of the gut is really important.Ate heaps of em as a kid at Elliston, should get back into em coz they're not bad eating
  13. Most people use the bright coloured line for good visiblity, and to see small bites/bumps through the line. This line requires a clear flurocarbon or mono leader to prevent the fishies from seeing it. Although I have used a squid jag straight onto braid and still pulled a few in.
  14. What mono do you use here Jagger? Ive recently put Platypus Lo Stretch on a spool for this purpose. Same thing as you, I was sick of sore fingers on cold days, and also a bit lazy with tying leader knots after a long session casting.
  15. Yeah Im a bit like Snake. I try to use mono in the surf as much as I can. Ive grown up with braid a fair bit so the stretch in mono gives me the $hits sometimes. All my other outfits have braid and leader, even my bottom bashing bait outfits. Guess im too used to braid to go back to mono.
  16. Well done Brett and the boys. That's cool to get a big industry name behind you guys. Does this mean some shiny new toys to help catch some snaps!!!!!!!!!!!!
  17. Out in the country we had no choice but to use Telstra 3G. Their plans were always a bit poo, but we had too put up with it. They have lifted their game a fair bit with some of the new plans they have out now. Optus have definitely put a few towers up in country locations, and are advertising on the local TV now, but Im not sure if the system is all up and running.Cant help you with city coverage,as Ive always been Telstra 3G
  18. The Penn Spinfisher Big game Surf is a strong but light rod. Its graphite composite, and will handle most things you can throw at it. They come in 10' or 11' in spin or overhead. I reckon they retail for around $100-120.Like Southie says, depends on what your chasing, and your definition of a cheap price.
  19. I like to use a good swivel and attatch the jig to that. It saves the leader tying direct to the split ring and avoids any chance of the split ring edges cutting into the leader. Some people like to have the assist hook connected directly to the swivel and then the jig attatched to the swivel independant of that. I think the idea is that if the split ring on the jig fails your hook is still on the line. Ive never done this but the theory of it sounds good. Dont know about the rubber band trick, I havent tried that one.
  20. Cheers Nanman. Seems to be a bit on the net about the rods breaking.Im after a 6'6" two piece, and these are going out for $99 at the moment.Kind of makes it tough to put any faith in the rod when there are reports of breakages. I guess I was hoping it was only the heavy models that went ping!!
  21. Found this old post via a google search!! I was wondering if anyone has any info or opinions on these rods? They are getting run out cheaply at the moment, but there are some bad reports on the heavier rated rods breaking. Cheers
  22. We've always believed to chase salmon on dropping pressure. I think that comes from my mate reading about the fishes bladder decreasing. Dont know if it really makes a differnce, but it sounds like a good theory to tell the cook while we're rushing out the door
  23. I do know the jewel rods are stiff in the tip. I like the blanks, no fuji guides, but i reckon they are still a good rod. $160 would be too much to pay for one though.
  24. Classic!!!Its getting hard to find a plastics/lure rod under 7' I dont own the Tcurve youre looking at, but ive had a play in a shop. I remember it loaded up nicely, but im not 100% on the tip. I dont think it was too whippy. Not that much help for ya, but at least you know someone is out here!!!!!!!!!!!
