Competition time for all Strike & Hook members and it’s an easy one to do …. Sort of
The idea of the competition is guess what ingredients have been used in the Scientifically Endorsed “Super Dooper Doobie Fish Attractant Guarantee Catch Fish Burley”.
Yes, you heard it right, the best burley mix you can put together yourself to make sure you catch some fish.
This doobie burly mix will attract Gar Fish, Mullet, Salmon Trout and Bream and possible many other species.
In this burley mix there are 7 ingredients, so it is not a basic burley mix, but one that has special fish attractants.
To help, some ingredients are the “norm”, but the remaining has the edge that you need over other fishos.
Watch the video and have a look at the photos and see if you can pick what 7 ingredients have been put in the mix.
If you are the first person to correctly pick all 7 ingredients in the one post … you are the winner.
    The prize includes ……
    -          1 x $20 BCF Voucher
    -          1 x Fireline Cap
    -          1 x Strike & Hook Bottle Opener
    -          3 x Kamashark Soft Glow Beads (various sizes)
    -          3 x Gladiator Super V point Hooks (various sizes)
    -          4 Good Spot Swivels (various sizes)

Good Luck to all Strike & Hook members and there is no limit to the number of “guess’’ you have.

I bought live worms, they seemed to be good but I did not catch any fish  Think it is my fault not the worms fault.

Tried those Catchall Crawlers this morning.
They were biggish/thickish worms, look like a tiger worm and stayed on hook well enough.
Advertised to work well in freshwater and saltwater - I didn't find them that good unfortunately.
After retrieving the line after say 5 minutes in the saltwater, they looked dead.  I have tried tiger worms in the past in the saltwater (as a test to see how long they would last) and these C/Crawlers reminded me of them.
Maybe they may work better in freshwater - would I buy again ....no.

Got out this morning to test it. Working perfectly had a gut feeling it wouldn't read right but thankfully I was wrong.

As for the unit it does all I need except it doesn't measure distance travelled... Unless I'm not looking at the right thing.

Just gotta get my head around what it's showing on the screen VS my location on the water.

When i was working in the Tackle Shop a little while ago a customer purchased a packet and headed down to the onk.
couple hours later he came back with a photo of him holding a an 115cm mully he caught in the first 20mins of fishing.
Was his 1st ever mully too.
Have seen people use them in the salt but have been more productive in the freshwater then then the saltwater

I use a 5wt for trout, and 8wt for salt. A 7 will be fine, you may find it hard to cast a heavy fly tho. Not sure if your using a tapered leader then tippet. - ( another leader) that might help with your casting. Snook is a good target to start off with. Abundant and agressive. Personally i would do a few lesson with an instructor. I have a number if you want it. Theres more to just casting. Line management etc.
Il meet you for a trout session in the hills if your keen. Got comfortable waders ?

Cheers for the reply Doobie, I have heard mixed reviews about burley (wont go to into pros and cons) but my initial thought would be that it wouldn't make it harder to catch fish at the least haha.
I'll definitly be trying to get out there again soon and hopefully next time have my phone handy for a sneaky pic.
    Thanks again. 😁

Sorry Harrison22 but I don't know anything about fly fishing except only what I've seen on TV fishing shows.
Hope there is a few here that might be able to give help/advice for you.
I would think burley would help in the at least the sea to pull some fish towards you and would like your chance might improve.
But I look forward to hearing of your future sessions though.
    Good luck

    Hi all,
This is my first post about fly fishing as I have only recently been introduced to it and taken a liking, so by all means please comment with your thoughts.
I am interested in both fresh and salt water fly fishing but am limitted by my gear at the moment. I have a 7wt rod topped off with 8lbs fluoro that I intened to use for a salt water set up.
So after a few days of practicing my cast spread across the last fortnight I decided the trip I already had planned to the yorks would be the perfect chance to wet a fly for the first time. The beach we were staying at has a low water level for about 150 meters so I put on a pair of waders and started covering some ground. I worked my fly in all sorts of spots of differing depths and structures but the fish were very thin. I recall only seeing one sizable fish but quite a bit of small bait jumping around at times. The afternoon tide was a bit dodge at this beach and as the sun started to go down so did my hopes. I was about to call it quits as I lost visibility but then one of my mates kindly offered to run and grab me a head torch so I decided to give it another few minutes... and luckly I did. After turning my light on and walking back out it was about 5 minutes before I got my first bite and I was hook up. After a short struggle and alot of splashing around I landed a small tommy roughly 15-20cm long. Not a monster but you always remember your first 😉.
I was a little surprised that I didnt see or catch more fish as I know its a quiet area that doesnt see to much pressure. I was hoping that some of you could offer me some advice or tips (e.g do people use burley?) for future trips, or even if someone would be keen to head out some time with the fly rods.
Keen to hear some feedback, Cheers,
    H.

Hi, not looking to start a debate over whether an egi rod is warranted as I have made the decision I would like to get one but am looking for some advice as to which to get.
I fish from the jetty mainly or beach and looking to spend around $150 and have narrowed it down to these 2-3
    Major Craft Solpara 8'3" SPS832E
    N.S Black Hole Blackwater 8'3" S832ML
Both can be had for $150, any thoughts on which is better and why would be greatly appreciated.
Is the Samaki EGI Inked 8'6" worth the extra $50 at rrp $200?
    Thanks for your help.

I'm always scratching my good sunnies so have been using polarised safety glasses for everyday work etc and for land based fishing. They're good for cheap sunnies that don't mind scratching or losing but the plastic type lense is not as good as a nice clear glass type. Some of the cheaper ones also have distortions on the lense. However the amount of times I bash my head on a tree with the sunnies acting as a helmet I'm resigned to budget stuff haha.

It took me a while to finally buy an expensive pair of sunnies, I use to use Compleat Angler brand ones, and although great polarization, the plastic lenses scratched too easily. I ended up buying glass lensed Costa branded sunnies (And yes they are quite dear, but I won't go back to anything else now) I have been told they are better then spotters although I have never compared them myself. I have been wearing the costas for 6 months now and can't fault them... very comfortable to wear and great polarization
