  1. yeah me, but you told me mine are to expensive... so have a poke in the eye instead...lol
  2. Natives need structure if your going down that path but trout just need to swim & swim
  3. It looks like you did nothing wrong last time but living in a rain shadow area it going to be pot luck I guess. I think you would have let the dam flourish for a while before putting any more trout in on the next fill so insect life & water plants can establish. A club i belong to called SAFWAA (south australian freshwater anglers assc) have established about 20 dams on private properties for members to fish (C&R only) with both native & trout in them if your interested you can go to a meeting & see what its all about they meet on the 1st tuesday of the month in town at the a
  4. hey goldy a bit windy to flyfish saturaday, sunday looks much better I'm thinking the onka upper reaches in the afternoon with the incoming tide? bream & maybe a schoolie?
  5. hey undies when you had the symetre a part did you check the spool shaft for a bend or wear have found this in the past to be problem with lighter reels that are shall we say not given the TLC they should get.
  6. hey good to hear from you again mickyj, dont worry to much over the size reel you are using as long as you happy with it. I have gone down the same path early days of lure fishing & braid line loved the 1000 size shimano's & others. I have upgraded in recent times & purchased a couple of 2500 sized reels somewhat for slightly heavier braids. Their has been a couple of write ups in the fishing mags over the last few months on why 2500 reels are better for light braids but I will stick to me 1000 sizes its a good buzz hearing those small spools spin on a good fish.
  7. support aussie companies on this Australia day. there are a couple of spinnerbait makers here in aus one comes to mind is Aus spin might be a bit hard to find but are a good tuff lure with good quality components fitted.
  8. also helps if when you are assembling rod if you set the piece of rod about to be joined slightly off centre & then with a light twist & push as you line up the guides if you have done this correctly you will not be able to straight pull the that piece of rod of the other to remove just reverse the above procedure. do not put any lubricant on the joints this may jam the pieces of the rod together.
  9. just before the float/rig hits the water feather the line with your index finger as it is coming off the spool.
  10. yeh darcydog is correct bridge repairs. i went down there the day i posted & took a couple of photos & got some info but some stuff happened in between & i have only just now seen my post again.
  11. In old nourlunga on the western side of the old bridge couple of excavator are making a dam across the the onky I was notified on my facebook page from the onkaparinga rivers fishers site also a couple of photos showing whats happening. doe'st look good in my book. anybody know whats going on?
  12. Sheldons baits tried this out a few years back but I think the majority of fishers with gents like theirs white they only persisted with it for a few months. when I used to chase KGW's years ago I tried the red & glow tubes with varying degrees off success but with some of my drops 10 metres+ & red turns to grey @ that depth (well at least to human eyes) who knows what a whiting is making of a piece of plastic tube?
  13. well the tackle setup for plastic is fine maybe look at the way you are using the lure i always say less is more when it comes to bream small twitchs on a slow retrieve even twitching the plastic on a dead stop can work, dont over do it on the jig head weights light as possible for the prevailing conditions another factor is time of day best times are early morn or late arvo with tide movement dodge tides can slow fish down but i still have caught good bream on a dodge.
  14. Hey no idea I have done some guiding here south of Adelaide mostly saltwater fly & some soft plastics (lures) fishing though, if you you could give the forum some idea (sorry pun not intended) of where you are having problems with your fishing I'm sure we could give you some hints without the expense.
  15. Nice kit have fun. If you need any tips just PM me have built rods & done rod repairs for years. just one question what brand of epoxy or rod finish did you get?
  16. Did you ever notice a rusty old pole sticking out of the mud a couple of meters long on the eastern bank of the Onk a few meters south of the old railway bridge (now a path bridge) ever wondered where it went, well i'll tell you. Fly fishing around that area about 7 years back & i decided as it had been a bit slow that day & if i could get my fly close in on the deep side of the bridge pylon there might just be a bream there willing to eat the fly. So having thigh waders on i stepped out into the water next to the the rusty old pole but found i needed to lean out just a bit further th
  17. I've had a spool of 6lb sufix 832 sitting in the draw for 12 months now been meaning to stick it on a reel. so i thought i would try a leader knot on it before i spool it it off. tied a piece of 6lb Berkley vanish to it with a 5 turn surgeons knot came out very nicely no damage to the braid or fluro. The 5 turn surgeons knot was shown to me by Adam (maddog) Royter a few years ago he was my non-boater in a vic ABT tourno & has served me well over years with bream, snapper & mulloway all being boated or landed successfully on bream gear so give it try might work alright for you.
  18. It can be done I've done a couple of my rods & some for customers in the past. its hard work & you need to to put a few layers of masking tape at the ends of the grips so if slip you dont damage the winch or bindings, blank etc. I usually start with a rough sandpaper wrapped around the grip & work the blank around in it & then work my way down to a fine for the finish. cork is easier than hyperlon grips.
  19. well that last post took the tingle outa me, so not boiling hot but hot enough, huh ok got some z mans to straighten out.
  20. boiling water, yes I'd say that would tingle a little.
  21. Got down to the onka this morning for another shot at the bream, stepped outside the jeep & the wind cut thru me like a an ice cold knife i thought stuff it I'm to old for this $h1# got home had some lunch & after took the old girls dog golden retriever for a walk & we got attacked by 2 big dogs I kicked the livin $h1# out of them both & the owner retrieved them, (they got away from a little girl walking them in their driveway) mums golden had to go to the vet only bruised (thank ****) went to see the owners of the dogs ( i was ready for a punch up) & they couldnt have been
  22. hey all got to fish all day today first hit up the onka about 11am & got 2 bream around the 34cm mark on 3lb fluro then when the tide slowed i got home had some lunch & headed out to a club dam with a fly rod tied on a mrs simpson & got my first cast in about 3.30pm well the trout were on the chew only little fellas but good fun finished with about 12 landed 3 dropped & heaps of follow ups the last trout tied himself up in a few knots & when i released him the heavens released its load it put an end to a happy day. couple of photos of to days catches. hows the dumpy t
  23. I have breathable thigh waders but neoprene stocking feet means extra cost of boots expensive but good in the warmer weather other wise i'm a hornes wader devotee, one pair i got i had 15 years wear out of (thigh waders) & i recommend the bludstone boot attached much harder wearing the pimpolsole boot & more grip in those slippery spots.
