  1. At the bottom of the posting text section, there should be an attachment button. Click on that and then add the video file from your computer. If it is too big then you may have to compress the file. Another way is to upload the video to YouTube or similar and then paste the link into the reply and the video will seam into the thread.

  2. The SavageGear crabs are the ones sold by BCF. They're different to the Crankas in that the hook is in the middle with a jighead and they're made using PVC materials. They're not bad lures for bream. Cranka ones have trebles on each claw and are worth every cent, if you can get your hands on one.

  3. I think you'll find a fair few species out there mate. I've only fished landbased there and we've always had luck with tommies, gar, squid, snook and YFW from the jetty. Have heard of some rat kingies turning up recently at both jetties as well.

Regards to KGs, I'd think broken bottom armed with some squid or cockles should be a good start :)

  4. Have a few mates that would benefit from this ahaha.

I'm wondering if/how the device might effect the use of the rod whilst fishing? Looks like it would get in the way.

Other problem would be if you dropped it over a jetty, how would you hook the device with another rod to bring the sunk rod up.

  5. Cheers guys, it's slowly becoming a permanent option of my fishing. Nothing is like the fight on a fly rod as it definitely tests your ability. I definitely wouldn't say I am mastering it though, many more hours of casting and technique work is still needed :)

  6. Finally completed the mission to land a carp on fly started out here:

Headed out this afternoon chasing carp solely with fly gear, my 5/6 weight and 10lb tippet. Headed up to the Torrens around 5:30 and started searching for carp in shallow waters for sight fishing. From a high point I spotted a single decent sized fish mooching and quickly set off stalking it. Waited 5 minutes before casting in front of it and from nowhere a larger carp beat him to my bugger and the line went tight and it was game on.

Only a short fight and I netted the beast! A 65cm fish, not a bad first carp on fly and a personal best carp for me:

After this, I found a nice school of larger fish but they were too busy making babies to have interest in my fly. Walked back and spotted another single small fish and had a follow but it shied away at the last moment.

Not a bad effort for only 90 minutes of fishing.

  7. Managed my first ever fish on fly this afternoon under the aid of Southie the Banga! After getting back from Port Vic mid-afternoon, I was pretty well asleep on the couch when Southie told me he was heading out for a flyfishing mission. Grabbed the fly rod and jumped in the car and off I went. We met up and had a few looks at pools and spotted a few wily browns but difficulties in casting kept us out of action.

Moved onwards to a known pool of a nice couple of browns and the bigger one was out and about. We both threw an assortment of flies at him, clearly feeding, but nothing doing. I went for a walk further up to see if anything else was around and on my way back found a smaller brown swimming in less than a foot of water. A quick cast and he turned and smacked my fly and everything came tight. He jumped around a bit and hit dry land pretty quickly before a photo and release was done.

Afterwards, we kept persisting with the larger and clearly visible larger brown but couldn't entice a strike. At least this gives me the confidence in my ability as a flyfisho and will give me encouragement for when I intend to target other species such as carp and mulloway.

  8. Fished the Murray near Cobdogla today for a couple of hours. All baitfishing, mostly a mix of tigers and earthworms.

8 callop, 4 carp and 3 silver perch, there were also some shrimp turning up in the pots which helped nail the 2 biggest callop at 52cm and 47cm.

Will have more time next weekend, planning an overnighter with my swag, hoping to get a decent 24hr fishing sesh and a cricket score catch.

Really impressed with the way natives are outnumbering carp in the river lately, both the silvers and the goldens all looked in prime condition, and I even let my old man keep 3 callop for a feed, which being a C&R fisho myself hasn't happened for years.

Made him gut and clean the fillets up, and chances are he will eat most of it....

Should be back in the salty stuff for a bream sesh during the week, hoping the warmer weather is firing them up.

Sounds like it needs a report of it's own Tinker!! Awesome season by the sound of it. Never managed a callop or silver but I reckon a trip to murrayland could've in order this spring.

  9. You definitely get what you pay Langley. I'd be looking at something along the lines of the symetre combo.

Other rod suggestions I'd recommend are the shimano mex fire raiders, Pfleuger trions, Daiwa TDTs depending on how much you want to spend. Even some Samaki rods are good bang for buck options.
