After a few days sitting at home with cold and flu, i finally got out today. With still not 100% of my normal strength, i went to Outer Harbour about 11am for a quick fish. A week without fishing feels like a month so i forced myself to get into action. After about an hour fishing, i was served with two rays and managed to land one. The first one got busted. First time ever, i won the fight with a ray. Cut the line and let it swim. After the fight, i was really exhausted and decided to go home. Manage to catch three blueys so the trip not really stuff all :cheer: .http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ggoUMITPXRE

Well. ive been lazy. but heres some reports :)FIshed ards for opening day of the season. things started of slowly at ground one.then after that shocking effort. kgw on 5/0s shouldnt happen. we moved to ground two.andthat was the end of that day. the next day we went to the bhp jetty cause it was a bit rough and anchored up outside it where the ship parks. mate having told the boss he wasnt coming in decided it was funny if we fished for the cameras up there.both fishing fairly light 4lb braid and leader we managed some of these.and thesethat was it for that trip :)next trip was out north. into the unknown for our first snapper trip of the year. and low and behold we struck red. three times. i caught a 8kg. which was not fotod. im not sure why as its my pb metro red. and a 6kg. fotod and the anchor boy....my gfs dad who owns the boat got a nice 5kg and 2 port jackson hehe.we had a trip to the same place where we caught 4 to 48cms. all tasted extremeley good.Next up we where out of the cape jervios chasing tuna for 5 hours of petrol wasting excitment. ont a single hit. ahwell. back to some grounds we found trawling for a bottom bash on the drift. the old boys used bait while the young lads. yup including me. used lures.first legal lure snapper 75cm we also picked up another 56cm snapper at the grounds. then back towards home and wirrina we picked up 5 44-47cm kgw. and whilst guttin and scaling the fish nailed a lazy 22 squid. was a good lil trip :)well thats my fishing for the past two months. hope it doesnt take to long to read :Dcheers grego.

Where have you fished before? What type of fishing do you do and what is your skill level? What do you want to catch? Are you interested in lots of little fish and plenty of action, or putting in lots of time for a chance of a legal fish but less smaller ones? What rod and reel do you have? No point buying an expensive rod and reel as it won't catch you any more fish if you don't know what you are doing. How far are you willign to travel? Are you willing to fish at night or in rough weather? There are many variables to consider before we can suggest some options.Learning to fish, westlakes is good as you will get plenty of bites and the occassional legal bream. Plenty of tommies off the metro jetties in the evening if you know how.One of the bigger species to catch will be salmon off port noarlunga jetty in winter during a storm but you will need to wait till at least autumn.Another tip I will give you is don't chase the rumors or reports and fish the same location for at least a dozen or two times. Any of the jetties will hold fish at the right time and although the learning curve is steep, plenty of good fish can be caught. You can bag on gar, tommies, YFW, and squid at the right time if you know what you are doing.Set your goals small at first. Tommies and squid are a good beginner target off the jetties and provide a good feed. Bream in westlakes are a good target to practice on.

Trial project welcomed by recreational fishersWestern Australia’s peak recreational fishing body Recfishwest has welcomed the State Government’s unveiling today of the first artificial reef project in the south-west region. Recfishwest Chief Executive Officer Dr Andrew Rowland said the $2.38 million initiative to establish the State’s first artificial reef trial on the south-west coast would increase habitat for key fish species. "The Royalties for Regions program funding and $520,000 from recreational licencing revenue has enabled the artificial reefs initiative to come to fruition," Dr Rowland said. "This is a fantastic tangible benefit for recreational fishers who purchase a fishing licence. With the first artificial reefs being located near Bunbury and Quindalup boat ramps, they will be a great resource for small boats to access. "Recfishwest undertook a significant consultation process with local fishers to select the best locations." Dr Rowland said the locations selected for artificial reefs are based on a strict set of environmental parameters such as water currents, depth and bottom type. "Local fishers will be engaged in monitoring programs to determine the effectiveness of the structures and assess the benefits to the community. "If these structures meet their potential, they will benefit the environment and local communities; complement Western Australia’s robust and adaptive fisheries’ management approach; and help ensure fish stocks remain sustainable."Map with artificial reef location here http://www.fish.wa.gov.au/PublishingImages/Media%20Releases/Photos/Artificial_Reef_Site_Assessment_%20Proposed_Sites%20-.pdf Would love to see a few of these dotted along our coast line Cheers 4THA

Woke up early this morning to fish Ardrossan Jetty. Water was rough and fast winds. lots of weed in the water. Few crabs around stealing bait, all under size however.about 45 minutes after high tide, couple of nice Mullet, and a dozen tommies. Good end to a disappointing start
