  1. First of all, a big fat hearty welcome to our beloved fishing forum called Strike Hook. Second, there are many of us on this site that practice catch and release. In fact, watching a fish swim away healthy is one of the aspects I enjoy most. Thirdly, never piss on an electric fence, or play leapfrog with a unicorn. I have a unicorn for sale if you want one.
  2. Not only are carp smelly leaving a pungent scent trail, but they are tough old things that don't get broken down by crabs quickly. Excellent crab bait, and by taking them out of the River, you are doing nature a favour. Take your light bream gear and make some sport of it on the carp.
  3. Agree that netting in the Rong should be abolished. Also strongly agree on increasing the mulloway minimum to 75cm, makes very good sense. But we can't delay putting into action a plan to curb the population explosion of these bloody seals. They eat their fill then injure, maim and kill other fish for fun, not forgetting the impact on other animal life in the area. The greenies will kick up a stink, but I see culling as the only viable option. Before we see an increase in the apex predators like Great Whites in SA moving in for an easy feed. Been enough shark attacks recently.
  4. And at least you know you are eating Australian tuna. That crusty bread suggestion sounds the go mate.
  5. A 1000 size reel in my opinion is the best match for bream fishing which you do a lot of. I found a 1500 size Shimano Symetre which is still fine, and casts a mile with 4lb braid. But I think a 2500 is overkill for bream.
  6. Yes and no mate. Yes it concentrates the fish in a smaller area, thereby increasing the chances of hookup. No, because the competition for food increases and stunts the sizes of resident fish populations like redfin. Little Para Reservoir has good sized redfin, but I only know this from stories from long time residents of where I live fishing the reservoir years ago. Now it is fenced off like a concentration camp. Because nobody fishes it, the big redfin eat the baby redfin on a never ending cycle, not like the Warren Reservoir where the big redfin have mostly been caught and all that is
  7. Stay safe over there Adrian. Everything was dry here in SA by the start of November. Fingers crossed we don't get a repeat of last year when the Sampson Flat fires tore through. Was only 5kms from home, over 25 homes lost but thankfully no lives taken.
  8. Just wish SA Water was reading this thread and feeling some sympathy for us. Heard stories of big cod in the South Para Reservoir. When divers went down to inspect the dam wall, they saw huge cod in the deeper water. South Para is almost empty, so is the Warren, which in my opinion should be kept topped up if we have to pay to fish it. I also heard of native fish being released in Chain of Ponds and Kangaroo Creek. Dream of the day when we can fish there.
  9. Caught some good bream in the creeks. I don't need to ask where, coz I know where to go. Just want to ask that you go out for some bream sessions more often. And keep sharing the footage with us. Great work again mate.
  10. Went raking for crabs for the first time recently at Pt Gawler. Plenty of undersize crabs, but we struggled to get many much bigger than minimum legal size. Must agree with you on the amount of crabbers going out there, makes you wonder if the blue swimmer populations can survive the impact at times. Even jetties and breakwaters seem crowded with fishing folks a lot of the time these days. Are there enough fish and crabs to keep everyone satisfied?
  11. Sometimes they breed. Every now and then I separate a combo to clean and service. Then for some reason, the reel gets a new rod, and the rod gets a new reel, and they multiply. Is it just me, or is this a common problem?
  12. Been trying 1-3kg rods and 1000 size reels on 6-7kg carp.......still can't snap them. Last time I did snap a rod was from high sticking to get a carp in the net.
  13. Sounds like me.... Bream rods, cod rods, carp rods.... And I still want more. Need a new rod rack.
  14. Bit harsh Col. Real ugliness comes from inside people, I don't care what they look like on the outside. Are you serious ?.............100% in fun mate, just stirring the pot for a bit of a laugh, I reckon Hoopsy would see the funny side...it's how us Aussies kid about, at least in my lifetime....no offense or insult intended whatsoever....call me a Scumbag and I'll laugh........cheers All good mate.

  16. Aussie made spinnerbaits might cost more, but the quality is exceptional. Everything about them is better, the designs, components, strength...you name it. Bought some cheap ones from Rays Outdoors years ago, and the skirts fell off on the 2nd or 3rd cast. Had to sharpen the hooks before use too. Never again. Weaver is the man you seek, and I hear his lures are very good too.
  17. Welcome to Strike Hook mate. Agree with Plankton. Happy to help.
  18. Really enjoy seeing your photos mate. Need to get you up the Riverland for some lightning shots. Lake Bonney also has some of the best sunrises and sunsets I have ever seen. Can't remember where I got this pic, but it has been my screensaver for donkeys. Reckon you could do a better job of it though.
  19. Keep a little pair of boltcutters in your tackle bag. Get it out, and get back into the fishing. No pain...no gain.
  20. Pelicans and wombats taste way better than carp. Especially the wombat tenderized road kill that has been run over by a B-Double. Delicious.
  21. I fish very light most of the time and use loop knots. I am hopeless at knots and use loop knots for everything, even tying my shoes. I should know better, coz I was in Scouts as a kid.
