  1. They will never totally eradicate carp in the Murray-Darling Basin. And we all must admit that in metro freshwater, carp have provided sport for many of us. By all means controlling carp numbers in the Murray could be a good thing, but nature seems to be returning native fish numbers like silver perch and catfish, and the recent re-stocking of cod fingerlings are indications of a slightly better future for our River. The biggest problem I see with this virus is mass fish kills causing deteriorating water quality, which will impact on other species. Time will tell.
  2. Yeah saw this on DisgraceBook. And he lost the fish. Spewing.
  3. Love sight fishing in clear water with the Crankas. Cast in front, let sink.....wait. Fish has a look, wait, wait, move rod tip 1/4 inch....wait... BANG!! Too scared to use less than 8lb leader with them, especially around structure. Big bream peel line, and fight dirty, and sometimes you just can't turn them in time, as you would already know. And CCs ain't cheap. I love it......
  4. I would say you can fish inside the marina in a boat mate. Landbased folks fish off the rocks and pontoons in there, some good bream in North Haven. Been doing it for a few years myself, and in that time have never heard any law against fishing in there.
  5. Why do certain ramps have fees and others don't? Half the reason I like launching at Garden Island. And call me cynical, but I see the day when River Murray boat ramps have a fee. It is only a matter of time in this age of money hungry scab politicians.
  6. Interesting clip Weaver, cheers mate. There are some good mangrove creeks up my end of town with some good sized resident bream. When water clarity is good, you can watch the bream as it goes for the lure, great fun. I have to admit, my Cranka Crabs are easily one of my fave HB lures. Tea-bagging over the side of the boat, or even cast up under the overhang and fished static with minimal movement works well. Out of interest, do you scent up your crabs?
  7. Marron taste way better than koalas Underpants. Throw the koalas back but keep the marron. On a serious note, hope you enjoy your holiday over there mate. Been something I have been planning for a while, coz the fishing on KI is some of the best in SA. Good luck.
  8. Not a fly guy myself yet, but I will give you the heads up on a scent I have been using with good results on shut down carp in the Warren Reservoir and Springbank. Get your paws on some Ultrabite Trout / Freshwater Formula, been getting mine from Spot On Salisbury. Works a treat on crawlers and tigers when bait fishing, and I am guessing it will get some on the fly. Hope it helps you nail that albino carp of yours.
  9. Regular mass fish kills.....not good. The recreational fishing sector in WA would be getting pretty pissed off by now. And how many had caught and consumed affected fish? I see a shitstorm coming over there soon.
  10. Been hearing stories about how they are blaming this canola spill......which was apparently immediately cleaned up. Isn't canola supposed to be good for us? Not fish or penguins but???
  11. You don't have to censor mate, I'm a responsible adult....lol. Sounds like you might need to give up fishing and get a crappy low paid job at HJ's or Macca's. Not!!!
  12. Another very enjoyable report Alex. Sorry to hear about the camera, some of your footage has been brilliant. Hope you get another one soon mate. Out of interest, how is your reel after being dunked?
  13. Another awesome pic Banga. Rig looks all ready for a trip to the top end.
  14. I think coz they were fishing without a commercial licence, they therefore label them as recreationals. And unfortunately, we all get tarred with the same brush. What worries me most, is how many of these pricks don't get caught....what damage is being done to fish stocks that we don't know about?? Makes it even harder for those that do the right thing, who know and respect bag and boat limits.
  15. Murray River Hotspot??? This ones going straight to the pool room. Few familiar faces in this issue.
  16. Make pet food out of them, or fertilizer like they do with carp. And in some places in the world, folks eat them, so why don't we harvest them and create jobs in the process. Underwater crackers would only scare the fish, not the seals.
  17. Nice work mate. It's not about quantity, more about quality. Love the flared up flatty in the top pic.
  18. Hey mate, we lost a very respected and admired tackle shop when they retired, but I might be able to help. Go and see Steve at Spot On Salisbury Plain, on Main North Rd. Very good bait supplies, and good old fashioned friendly service. Probably the closest store I can think of for you. And a quick shout out for St Kilda Tackle and Tucker, Robyn and Cookie would easily be the most up to date folks I would know on the local fishing news. There is also Tackle World Salisbury Highway, another store worth checking out.
  19. Bream session from 5am this morning at West Lakes and Garden Island. Only ended up with 3, biggest about 30. Then headed up to the Warren for a carp sesh in the arvo, just 1 landed, approx 50cm, and 2 bust offs. Great day to be out there today, but a bit slow on the fish. Fathers Day lunch with the family tomorrow, then maybe a carp sesh in the metro.
  20. Salt live tubies before freezing to preserve. I find salted tubies are tougher than live and stay on the hook longer. Preserve bloodworms in metho when live so they tense up and stay firm after freezing. If you put any worms in the freezer without preserving them, they turn to mushy snot when you go to use them. Bream are not put off by metho one little bit, though a dab of S-Factor doesn't hurt. I have seen old blokes on jetties spraying their hardbodies with WD-40, and they were catching good bream. Apparently it has fish oil in the ingredients.
  21. Bream are about in the Port River, but will most likely shut down Monday or Tuesday night for this years third bloodworm run.
  22. Nah, you are absolutely right mate. Cranka Crabs are for try-hards. And for 20 bucks each, they are the biggest waste of money you will ever encounter. I gave all mine to some Hare Krishnas who were happy catching puffer fish and trumpeters which is all I have caught on them, and they gave me a tambourine to help sing to the fish which works substantially better on your catch rate than CCs. Learnt quite a lot today.......
  23. Just like the Bait Breath scented crabs, very average results. SP crabs just don't produce for me. Cranka Crabs are the bomb, and new stocks have just arrived in most stores. Worth investing in.
