Cutting edge seems fine, no problems with 80lb mono and 10lb fireline. The blades are replaceable with a small Allen key, but lord knows where you'd get replacement blades from. The nose is about 7cm long so should be fine for getting hooks out that are lodged inside a fishes mouth. The whole plier is 20cm in length.
The tang lines up well at the tip and is good for all but the smaller split rings you would have on bream sized lures, but will handle heavy split rings found on deep jigs and tuna type lures. The blades have a basic crimping set up which would be OK if no better options were available.

All up the quality is fine. A large split ring attached through the bottom hole on the handle to a lanyard or length of Bungy chord and they're good to go.

Port noarlunga was slaying on saturday, all day. There were plenty of schools of small salmon trout that kept coming past. We managed to land over 40 fish and kept only 24. It was awesome fun

Dried them out on newpaper as best i could, dipped in metho for a minute, back on fresh newspaper to dry out again, zip-locked bags & into the freezer.

First time ive done this so im not entirely sure how they will perform for bait later in the year.

Yesterday, baddams (James), Fishingmad (Joshua) and I headed to the onkaparinga river. James managed to land 2 tiny mulloway (20 and 24cm) in the first hour or so then it was all quiet.

We moved back and forth without landing any fish, we had heaps of tiny bites but no hookups. Then we moved back to the original spot and landed 2 more bream. Near the end of the day, we bumped into something different. The video says it all.

Well done mate, that's a horse!
And brownie points for the release.
That fish was almost 30 years old, and was probably a big randy male keeping the girls satisfied.
    Love your other vids too.

    Thanks.
Sounds a lot like the "creeping death" approach of DEWNR during the MP process.
Closure seems  to be over the top...

Special event aside (regattas) aside, every resident would/should have been aware of the fishing situation before they bought their property.

At the same time, wouldn't it be great if fishos outside of the lakeside properties were all tidy, respectful and quiet.

Perhaps a code of conduct prepared and agreed by fishos, and submitted to the council and residents might be the answer?

thanks guys, you would need to ask Weaver what gear he was using as i'm not sure. The lure though is a "Doofdoc" a mate of Weavers makes them a very good Cod lure and well proven   have a look at said lures name on facebook to see some of the monsters Chicky catches on his "Doofdoc" lures   err thats "cod food" for those in the know!

This video has been added to my youtube channel mainly for my overseas friends but i guess some of you guys wouldn't have seen it yet too, so!

Here is another of my old fishing videos from 2008, rehashed for my youtube channel. This time watch as my mate Lucas Weaver ( i think you guys might know him  ) catches a monster 130cm Cod in Australia's largest river, the mighty "Murray River". We were out for a mid week fish and 10 minutes into our troll i got snagged. As we stopped the boat Weaver wound his lure in and was hit by this monster Cod. Weaver writes for a few Australian Fishing Magazines and his story and the photos i took for him, made a double page photo spread. So sit back and watch as Australia's largest freshwater fish is caught and released. Music used this time is from my fellow band members home studio, Rick on mandalin, guitar's and vocals and Jake on his magical keyboard   Thanks Rick & Jake Costin

    cheers chuck

well from first hand knowledge, as i used to be guilty of it, most people down at Goolwa were i carp fish feed the pelicans the fish as they catch them and this has created a major problem as now they expect to be fed and as soon as you set up they know and are waiting, sometimes up to a dozen, they will sit right over your bait position tangling lines and as soon as a hooked fish breaks the surface you have a bunch of them chasing it in the water,i have  numerous times pulled fish out of their mouths trying to scull drag them, you have to battle them as you get the hook out of the fish on land and put it in covered container, in the end it is almost impossible to fish responsibly and you end up packing it in.Try to explain this to other people (tourists} feeding them is not real successful as they are a real novelty bird . i have seen pelicans tangled like this numerous times.
Do not feed them let em catch their own.

I hope this has nothing to do with rubbish being left behind by fishos.
Haven't been fishing WL for very long, but have already had to clean up after a few ferals, and it really 5hit5 me.
Certain mulloway fishos on this site won't be happy if night curfews are introduced either.

SMSd a mate " Wanna drown some bread?". He handnt wet a line since Mar last year   and his missus was under the weather, having an nanna nap so was pretty keen.

As he lives down that way, we checked out that "secret spot" in the pic above.

Nothing moved 3 times over 3hrs.....changed baits bread, corn & nightcrawlers. SFA !

Damn it was geting cold standing round talking s**t with no bites so decided it was time to pack up and have a beer.

We were fishing slightly apart from each other, so had to walk back to my rods. Noticed the braid on my heavy outfit (8lb vs 6lb)wasn't as slack as i left it , tho not tight either (bail arm was open). Lifted the rod, expecting nothing, bang set the unweighted circle into a fat carp!

Bit of a run, jump out of the water and certainly didnt want to come in. After around 15mins mate was able to grab the leader and get is foul juices on his hands as a consolation prize.

A filthy, fat mud monster. Went 64cm and must have been over 5kgs, estimated only (think i'll invest in some scales).

I know its not the biggest but hey, havn't been fishing for ages so was pretty stoked. Plus only the 3rd time ive targetted carp and certainly my PB.

One interesting note: this was landed at 1700hrs, i took it home in a plastic bag in the back of hte ute and chucked it on the front lawn, so the young fella could have a look (might turn it into burley yet?). At 2200hrs when i hit the sack,  it was still gulping!

Mate was saying he used to catch them at Mannum, take them back home (in Adelade). Once chucked them in the bathtub full of water just for the hell of it (his missus must have been away) recons overnight, half hand fully revived!

Thought he was full of s**t but after last night, i beleive that story. Man they are nasty, tough SOBs!

I wouldn't say im a pro fisho and i certainly don't bag out, but I always come home with a feed so i'll try to help.

I generally decide upon a specific fish that im trying to target and do all of my research well in advance of the actual fishing trip. Once i've chosen my target, I look into what they prefer to bite on, the best possible rigs, and where they are. If possible I try a couple of days in advance to make a jetty trip to acquire fresh bait, usually squid or herrings. Ive found this to be the most successful way of catching fish, and if i dont get EXACTLY the target species im after, at least i get a reasonable/edible/entertaining by catch.

I realise that sounds nerdy, but much like yourself ive found when ive simply resolved 'im going fishin' and just go down to the local beach or jetty with some frozen pilchards or cockles I get less then SFA, sometimes not even a bite.

Love how there was such dark clouds rolling in yet you still see the sun as it was setting.

And shows the roughness of the water!

This looks even better at the true resolution however due to the site only allowing 4.88mb max pics i got to shrink it down to fit!

    Give you a tip mate.
Dip them in metho when alive then put them in small containers and freeze straight away.
When you use them keep them in the shade and as cool as possible.
This method gives you firm and reliable worms for fussy bream, and they don't mind the metho one bit.
I tried salting them live, but they squirt the blood out, and end up mushy after being frozen.
Usually dig for them at low tides below .20m, and when used live, are one of the best baits out.
However during the bloodworm run, using them as bait will be useless, coz most of the fish that eat them will be fat and full.

A bit late for a report but here we go...

On the Sunday of the long weekend myself and a few mates decided to give the SS banga a run (southies old tinny that I took off his hands)

We sat at the mouth of the coorong for the arvo just messing about, I was throwing plastics getting salmon trout every two to three casts and surprisingly they weren't interested in the bait on offer which was bungum worms.

I decided to send out a live st on my mates cheap spare rod, boy did I wish I brought my snapper gear! I got smoked by what felt like a decent mully! Long story short I got 5 hits on 5 livies and landed one fish that was a salmon that went 73cm and smashed a livie 23cm long

On Sunday I decided to go down to salt creek for a look at the salmon scene at the moment, they bit from the time we were there until the time we left, only fished for two hours, caught 20 between 55-65cm and lost a few also, even tried to get away from them by slabbing one up, they still ate the fillets of salmon!
Not a bad session for two hours of fishing.

Pretty happy with these two 'prospecting' sessions!
I'm no good at writing reports so I hope it's easy enough to understand haha cheers guys.
