No doubt my favourite salmon lure is whatever is cheapest at Big W/Kmartaround a 40g size, or 10-15 with the bream gear

I reckon I dropped $180 on tailered hornes waders 2 years or so ago. It was something along those lines - wouldn't think you'd be up for much more??

Guaranteed by two years time those spots that are secret now will be over run with every man and his dog once word gets out. I've seen numerous secret spots along the Metro Coast and out in the Gulf become over run and all in the last couple of years :(Once fishos always remained tight lipped.... but it seems to be the opposite in this day and age of electronic media etc

Take Ranger's advice and ignore. The amount of comment activity these articles get only encourage these twits. We all know they're out there - imagine what their kids are going to turn out like!!! (that's if they are allowed in the sunshine (might get burnt),breathe the air (ooh the pollution) or converse with any outside their own tribe (might be a child molester)

holes in the sand can often turn out to be a useless variety of wormTheres sometimes darker coloured sand around the hole, and it will often be spurting out sand as a wave recedes. Put a kids bike tyre around a siv so it floats - then pump what you get up into it to seperate the nipper. Sure is frustrating without one

You pay to lauch a boat...you pay to drive onto some of our beaches in summer..what's the difference? The ramp provides facilities that you pay for such as this pier. Nice to see it can work in other countries (i'm sure it's not the only one) but far to many people here that just can't see forward. SA in particular ! We really don't like change that's for sure.

do it - for everything that's made of it, flyfishing is pretty damn easy to learn the basics of. Give it 5 minutes and you'll be able to slap down a cast no problems. If you join, the club has a number of fly rods to loan out to members. Plenty of people (me included) would be happy to help out. A 5-weight would do the trick for what you want by the sounds of it in my limited knowledgeWatching a trout take a dry fly off the surface is something I think every fisho should experience - its great fun.

Got into a bit of cooking tonight..... Brought back a bunch of rabbits from a trip to the SE in January, haven't got around to doing much with them!Always found them to be dry when I've cooked them before, so I figured this could be a winner First up, brown rabbit in some butter, before pouring away any butter left at the end. After pouring out butter, add in lemon rind + wedges, a bunch of sage, rosemary, half a dozen garlic cloves and a cinnamon stick. Then pour in around a litre of milk, just enough to almost cover your rabbitAround 40 mins later all was doneWent well with the roast veggies I got going earlier on and chicken gravy Stil not my favourite meat, but for a cheapo meal it went down pretty well. Sure was a lot more moist than rabbits I've cooked before. Try this recipe with chicken - except into the chook's cavity goes half the sage, a few garlic cloves and lemon wedges.... With the rind going into the milk.

Recently had a trip to California, where I spent just under 4 weeks living it up :woohoo: We did a road trip up the coast to San Fransisco, then check out Yosemite. I thought I'd share my experiences of Bass Pro Shop at rancho kookamunga, about an hour and a half from downtown LA. This place is three stories of fishing, camping, hunting and ourdoor gear. According to the website its 180,000 square feet - it was literally the size of footy park.Has a restaurant connected to it, which is apparently all right. But who'd eat there, I'd be spending my dollars on the gear inside!SAFWAA worldwide!Front entranceMore rods/reels/lines, everything you can think of than you could poke a stick at.Also has an outdoors section, along with a marine bit that does boat sales What I found most impressive was the display inside. A manikin, decked out in fly gear - standing in a running stream, full of browns and rainbows. Some of these fish were around the 24" mark ! Would've killed to drop something in there.... Had a ball throwing chunks of fluff and stuff out of my pockets - fish were straight onto anythingGuys walk around with oversized shopping trolleys and pile it up with gear....Was a pretty awesome place to visit!Cheers,Scottie

My thinking is... And I might be dreamingYou want the breaking strain of your leader/braid knot to be more than your leader to lure clip/swivel knotUsing 10lb leaders and 6lb braid.... I go a 5 turn surgeons, which is close to 100% breaking strain. I then use a simple clinch to swivel, which is around 40%Ends up snapping off at the lure clip every time. Not sure if my theory is correct, but it does work!

had a great summer, very sad to see it done :(Learnt how to pump nippers and had heaps of sessions chasing YFW - getting a dozen or so each trip. Had a few great trips to the rocks (not as many as I'd like) and caught a few squid and garfish.Got my first metro snapper around 6-7 kiloSpent plenty of time casting flies early on and improved a lot at thisAlso some great redfin, biggest not quite at Jagger's level but i cracked 1kg a few times.Kinda dissapointed to be chasing salmon and not much else for the next months!

MarsOne got a reaction from thefunkychicken in Considering having a go at fly-fishing.
I've gotten into it pretty recently...Just bought my first decent outfit, loving it!I started by catching a few redfin and trout in SAFWAA dams - with a $70 7 weight combo I picked up here on S+H. Lord Blackbilly held a fly-fishing day at his property several months back - where newbies were paired up with more experienced fishos. It was here I caught my first fish, after popping the cherry it all came much faster!SAFWAA has fly rods that are up for loan to members - with membership a mere 60 bucks a year it would be a great place to try flyfishing, and also have someone take you out and give you a few pointers. Without it I would've strugged through teaching myself more than I already did.Not trying to shamelessly plug the club, but is sure did help me out!
