Backchat got a reaction from bjorn2fish in Who's fishing this weekend and what are you aiming for?
Heard there were crabs about up goannas way so took a run up there last Friday. Only 3 legal with 4 throw backs and a couple of undersized pinkies. Not to mention thousands of baby leather jackets devouring any bait put down .
Sure was a nice day out on the water though.

I'm bloody hopeless at games like this.
Luckily I already have a S&H cap and beanie.
Good luck to the winner, looks like some good kit.
I'm going to go sit in the corner and sulk now.......

I make my own ice with old ice cream containerers and milk cartons and that works fine for most metro stuff- saves 8 to 10 bucks a trip. also chase my own bait where possible which is fun and saves a dollar.

Backchat reacted to plankton in Penn Live Liner
Basically something is only worth as much as somebody wants to pay for it. Sometimes a difference in price is only based on a perception of a difference in quality, which may be valid or not.
I have been a Penn guy for my entire fishing career. I own several USA made Penn reels and a few of the newer Chinese made models. I have not noticed any decrease in build quality or performance, but of course the with newer models I can't speak to their longevity. I don't have any experience with their live liners as personally I've never cared for that style of reel.
If you really like the reel then I say keep it, but if you can sell it for good money and be able to replace it with something of similar quality and have extra cash left over (for more fishing gear of course) that's got to be tempting.

Picked these up at Bunnings for twenty bucks. Aluminium handles with stainless steel nose. No lanyard or pouch. Way less grief if they go over the side compared to some other brands!

Here is a shot I took this morning on my way for a morning Hills fish! Loved the colours and cloud formation in the sky. I couldn't help but stop and take it in!

Backchat reacted to Ben 10 in How do you store cockles ?
I like to salt them in my esky for a couple of hours after i collect them with a $6 bag of pool salt and only enough water to make a slurry. Then I vac pack them with as little water as possible but pleanty of the salt i.e. 1/3rd of the bag is salt. You will find that with time the cockles will brine and turn a little yellow and toughen up BUT the whiting absolutely LOVE them and my hook up rate has improved due to the fact that they cant just suck the cockle off and I believe they like the taste/smell.The cockles never stink they just smell like the brine and I dont even refrigerate them when I go away for a weekend, I just pull them out of the freezer and use what I need for the weekend and if there is any left over in sealed bags still I refreeze them again and they seem to improve even more and the fish go crazy for it! Like anything though much past a year and a half and they may not be quite as appealing but I guess only take what you need during the cockle season to see you through to the next season to avoid this problem. Cheers
