Thanks for the kind words lads.If I get a few days off when the weather is still crappy then I might be able to make some progress on a couple of new ones. The next two in the pipes will be the previously mentioned YFW/squid rod a Lamiglas Snapper/Mully rod.Cheers.Thanks.

Gday.Well it’s been a while since I’ve visited StrikeHook, the last few months have been flat out with work (and a bit of laziness thrown in) which can be both a good and bad thing. I’ve managed to get a line wet a few times but the results have been far from front page news. I have however been able to wrap a couple of threads on a few rods during the occasional late night.I thought I’d better make the Mrs a rod as I was getting a bit of that vibe from her… I wanted something that she will be able to catch Squid, Whiting, Snapper, etc with that will allow a bit of sensitivity but still be strong enough to not break due to accidents or high-sticking. I ended up going for a 6’6” graphite blank rated 12 to 18lb with Pacific Bay guides and a split grip setup for a spin reel. Being for a sheila, I used pink, purple and silver on the thread. I also got her a Baitrunner 2500 with 15lb braid which sits on nicely.I had two mates give me the old “build me a rod will ya mate”… so I did. Both of them are owners of rods built by me, one a spin rod and the other a batcaster. The one who has the spin rod wanted “pretty much the same thing but flasher” so we lifted his budget a little bit and went for a great blank (pretty much as good as they come) and some more than decent guides and reel seat. The other bloke who has the baitcaster wanted “the same thing exactly but set up for a spin rod”, so that’s what he got.St Croix SCV 6’6” 6-12lb 2piece, Pacific Bay reel seat, Fuji Alconite guides. Finished in an Aussie green and gold style of thing – which I don’t much like myself but that’s exactly what he wanted.MHX 6’6” 8-15lb 2piece. I used the same thread I used on his previous rod so he now has a nice matching pair. A Shimano Stradic 2500 (not Ci4) is going on the rod which will match very nicely. The next one in the works is one I’m greedily making for myself: a long and light spin rod to use for Whiting, Squid and Flathead from the beach, rocks or shallows. I should have it finished soon (just in time for bloody summer to be over). Photos of that will come soon - probably about August 2013!Cheers.

Gday. After a significant amount of time going cross-eyed binding this rod, it's finally finished. It's for a mate of mine and I was utterly displeased when I heard he wanted no less than 13 guides on it, all to be done with a fairly intricate threadwork... "I want it to look sh!$ hot" he says. I hope I haven't let him down.10' Glass overhead. Rated at 18-30lb.It took me ages and a fair few colourful words uttered but I'm pretty happy with the result. I hope the new owner will feel the same.Cheers.

I have a mate who loves both his Daiwa Interlines. I haven't had a play with them, pretty much because they're impossible to get out of his hands.Apparently they do not have a backbone so they're good for a spin or overhead reel.Cheers.

It all comes down to feel as very rarely are you going to hook a fish that will question your line capacity.I like the 4000 sized reel better for snapper fishing but thats just me, and Ive snapper fished with both the 3000 sized reels and 4000 sized stradics.I prefer to feel that I have a big and robust reel on my rod.If your going to be throwing 5" plastics for inshore reef reds then the 3000 would be killer, but if your also planning on throwing some 7" plastics at monster reds on deep drops, then although the 3000 will still do the trick due to both having 7kg of drag, I feel the 4000 is better suited and feels better throwing big 7" plastics on bigger jig heads. The 4000 will be better suited to dropping big baits down too, like whole fish and will give you the option of fishing live macks as well.

    I've got a 2500 on a 6ft 6in 5-9kg Soft Plastics stick spooled with 15lb braid and a 4000 on a 7ft 6-8kg Snapper stick spooled with 20lb braid. Both are well balanced and, like Grego's, work a treat!

G'day.Great topic!I wouldn't be using circle hooks on lures. I'm fairly sure that hookups would be harder to achieve using circles as opposed to a standard style single.I've got some lures with trebles, some with stinger/assist hooks, and some with single octopus hooks and I honestly find downfalls with each method.Trebles seem to get more hookups but more fish are lost, The stinger/assist hook sometimes fouls on the leader or rear hook,And I find sometimes that a lone rear hook gets less hookups but, as others have said, the fish is less likely to get off.Cheers.
