The top photo of a thistle seed head (or what ever you'd call it)  was taken quite some time ago in a paddock as I was heading to a river.. the thing is the following two photos taken this morning while heading through the paddocks once again to a river are of the same type of thistle..

What I didn't know was that on cool mornings they are closed.. learn something new every day don't we..     photo taken with my trusty fishing Canon SX150IS compact camera..

Meppstas reacted to doobie in Anglers Choice Christies Beach closing down.
Looks like another fishing store to close @ Anglers Choice, Beach Rd Christies Beach.

Seems the business has been for sale for a while as they are wanting to retire and travel, but unfortunately they haven't had any takers to buy.

Closing this Sunday (30/4) at this stage with a 20% sale in the meantime.

I rarely went in there, but when I had I received some good service/advice from Arthur and he even gave me his business card to ring him if I need any information etc.

But sad another has to close down.

Saw this post on CoastfishTV (on Facebook) about a guy (and possibly a female partner) that has been dwindling money and fishing gear out of people.

https://www.facebook.com/CoastfishTV/?fref=nf (for those on FB, you may have to scroll down for this particular post, although atm it is staying near the top with all the comments)

I think he is interstate and may have been happening for many years, so putting this info up for all, especially our interstate members.

So be wary of buying anything from unknown people as you don't want to say goodbye to some some hard earned cash.

The following are some names he has gone by but there are of others as well.

WARNING Be wary of this fella especially if you intend on purchasing fishing gear. This person goes by several names on various fishing forums and Instagram including 'Daiwafreak' 'Jack Williams' 'Billy Johnson' 'John Johnson' 'Jett' 'Billy' 'Jigman72' 'Lure Junkie Jack hunter'. He even decided to contact me!
Some of the claims being made by victims are:

Takes you out fishing (several trips in some cases) and offers to sell you highly discounted Daiwa fishing rods and reels which he will personally deliver after you have paid him. Then he disappears with your money.

States he has cancer and uses this fabrication and emotionally charged sickness to exploit victims for both goods and money.
Borrows fishing equipment and then disappears.

Shuts down and reopens Facebook pages and Instagram accounts.

He may also provide you with a contact number. This number is disconnected. He will claim he is out of range if you message him about the number not working.

Unfortunately a number of fishos have fallen victim to this con mans antics. Be vigilant when purchasing fishing tackle from an unreputable seller and use all safe avenues when making your transaction. If you have been a victim of this person please let us know and I will endeavour to have it followed up. PLEASE SHARE.

The old pliers surgery is always great fun isnt it? I do need to find a decent pair of forceps for my trout fishing at some point. Just havent found any I like more than the pliers

Aside from safety and being more fish friendly,I was considering if the hooks would set better due to not having to push the barb through.

The hooks could slide through better and potentially I'd miss less fish due to the hooks not sticking properly.

Spose I can always try on 1 lure and see how I feel

It's all part of the fun playing Doctor while fishing AR.. I'm use to it now and the pliers get a work out at least two to three times each trout season with me..

It's not all that often I have to use the "Donger" on a trout due to the trebles hooks of the spinner damaging the fish.. A pair of forceps is one of the best tools for removing them too.. The pliers are for me..

Quite a lot of the time the trout toss the lures once I have them in the net as well.. If they swallow a lure deep then damage will be done to the gills whether or not you have barbed or barbless hooks I reckon and once there's gill damage (I'm talking trout) they have to get the '' Donger " as they'll go belly up anyway. There's a lot of fisho's using barbless hooks now days, you can always try a single hook on a lure too instead of trebles..

    cheers

I don't catch pillies myself but someone may be able to give some advice soon (although many are away for Easter atm).

I just buy the frozen salted ones and are not too dear or even at the markets as fresh (but harder to keep on the hook) and a little cheaper again.

Also, I have read that you can buy a Sabiki rig which could have upto 8 hooks on the line - but with only 3 hooks permitted on one line I'm not sure how legal these rigs are or why they are allowed to be sold.
So I would just make up your own rig with 3 hooks (even with the little feathers on them) and/or white coloured bait and sinker at the bottom and start jigging away until they hook on.

Temperatures also will need to be a little cooler, so maybe another month yet, but where to get them I'm unsure.
