Thanks to AA Batteries for a top-knotch sponsorship.
I deemed myself ineligible for the prize, as I think my tropical opportunities were unfair compared to an SA winter, so I let the judges pick another winner.
I just love fishing, reading about fishing, talking about fishing, and writing about fishing!! Strike and Hook teaches me a lot

I have owned a Curado 200G7 for many years now. On a trip over to Edithburgh a few years back I lost it over board about halfway between Tapleys shoal and Troubridge island. As we were cruising at night and rods and reels are known to sink to the bottom we continued on and I was resided in the fact that I will never see it again. The next day some 20 hours later we were trolling for snook around marion reef just off of Troubridge island when I noticed something in the water. We turned around for a look only to be blown away to see my Curado and cork handled rod bopping away on the surface.I know this is not going to help you with your question about lure sizes and what not,but the fact that I took it home washed it and put it back together and have never had a problem with it since should convince anyone to buy a shimano, and a cork handled rod ,the bloody things float.

Same here sold off the more expensive reels and cut right back to basic, only the DC Curado @$300 remains at the highest price. Also switched over to low profile bait casters as they are more entertaining. 6 in total..LOL

I only run Sienna 2500 on the yak with different light weights. I learnt the hard way about using expensive reels. 🙄

Yeah my first experience with BKK was before they had established their reputation - (they were putting them on cheap lures from China) (It was cheaper to buy entire lure from China just to get your hands on the BKK trebles, than it was to buy Owner st-36ers in Australia)

But now everyone knows they're good - they sell them in 9 packs and charge the earth.😉

I like pushing the boundaries of my tackle just to know how hard I can push in the field😉 (None of these are BKK trebles - but using hook like Gama's - in terrain like this - made me start testing all my tackle before getting it wet)

The fishing fairy had visited my letterbox while I was at work today.

Sunday looks like the day to give them a good run. Just need to get some more jigheads I usually run the HWS ones but they are a real prick to feed into these plastics I found, going to buy some normal style jigheads.

I did try give the bait junkies a run on Monday morning but the weather blew me off the water quick smart so didn't get to test them properly. They looked pretty good in the water though. Will give them a good go on Sunday if I hit the salt and not the fresh.

    G'day all,
I got caught up in the hype around the new Bait Junkie lures, watched all the vids I could find then went & bought 8 different packs, 4 grub & 4 minnow.
I usually use the Zmans with some success so was keen to try the newcomer.  My plan was to fish the Junkies around Vincent next week, in areas that i have had success with the Zmans.
But like a kid with a new toy, I just couldn't wait. Headed down the Port yesterday, low tide, to Snowdens, which I was hoping was out of the strong SW winds. It was windy but i took the chance. 2-4kg rod with 4lb mono on a 1000 reel to avoid wind knots.
Started with the grub, sticky little bugger, on a 1/12 jighead. Had a few hits but no takes, small fishies I'm guessing. Changed to a minnow on a 1/16th jighead & caught a just legal St 1st cast. The wind then got up even more making casting difficult so I moved to the boat launch pontoon.
Second cast there & the lure hit something, weed maybe, then my line did a big curve towards then away from me & the line just peeled off my reel as whatever it was headed to deeper water, What the hell have I hooked.
The rod had the J-curve going & the reel was still letting line out at a rate, tightened the drag as much as i dared & was still losing line like nobodies business, I thought I was going to be spooled. I had to try & stop whatever it was so used my hand to stop/slow the reel & you guessed it, busted off.
The fish? only gave a couple of pulses before the bust off & nothing during the "fight". Had it no idea it was hooked? Had i foul hooked it?
Any ideas as to what i had hooked?

Sold some gear so am treating myself to an import from Tasmania. Its a Messiah Custom made by Scott James. Have seen a few videos / reviews of the rods so thought I would give one a try. Thought of going local but before I knew it had ordered one. Am very excited about it coming but still have a few weeks to wait. As an aside Scott sends photos of the build so that the purchaser can be part of the that process. Regards, Dean (HBt.)

    Big crawlers or big scrubworms.

And if you keep getting small pickers you need to move location.

Little fish avoid big fish coz they get eaten.

Thanks for all the replies so far. Am looking into some under wader garments that are micro fleece and come with stirrups to go under your feet. At $40 they dont sound to bad. Regards, HBt.

Ok it’s not worth writing a fishing report . Saturday was a donut morning at west lakes flicking around a tiny Aus tackle black lure I’ve landed bream on in the past . Sunday I hit the northern end of the local third cast with a eco gear 30 something lost a 20 cm ST. The ecogear was gold black orange belly red eyes . Nothing else hit the steps but to much weed . Was a donut but finally I could cast a tiny ecogear lure and get interest .
