And probably costs them about 500k a year to dredge it 🤦‍♂️
The sad thing is, I've seen 'new' drawings for an 'upgrade' recently.
The only thing that I see changing is removing the old 'tyre grip' concrete slabs to new ones.
It needs a massive overhaul! Needs to go deeper because at low tide around 11.30-1 in summer is horrendous (1 maybe 2 smaller boats dock only), a 3rd lane added and a massive breakwater with 1 entry / exit point.
Something like this should happen I think.

    Looks good.
This needs to happen at West Beach Boat ramp all around the perimeter of the breakwater also.
Gets people on the walk to their cars a lot quicker, meaning faster retrieval. Well, in theory anyway.

I always use fresh tenderized squid with a little bit of pilchard on my baits, the frozen squid doesnt work as well as fresh... My theory is the pilchard brings them to the bait, the squid hooks them as it stays on the hook better.. If they are fussy and I have a KGW/trevally. Then I use a little bit of that  instead.. I dont boat fish.. Only off the land which is a bit harder to get KGW.. Its been hard this year due to the crowds everywhere... Hoping/wishing next summer is better.. crowd wise...
Last few trips I havnt really fished as much due to the crowds...
We went to Gleesons landing over the Adelaide cup weekend.... My god.. Rundle mall all weekend.. I didnt really fish... too noisy, too many people...
I know the local cray guys and they let me squeeze in and camp next to them.. ALL the other camping spots were full. I counted 27 cars/vans/campers jut at one clearing...
I managed to go out on one of the cray guys boats for the day.. For my efforts I was rewarded with a small cray... By the way.. This year the cray guys have been doing really well as the pro isnt going out and catching them this season.. They have been getting their bag limit every day...

Just spent 6 days cruising KI with a couple of old mates.Physically I’m not as capable as I would like to be, I’m one of the people who would of fished hard every minute of the day but now I’m more the deckie and I enjoy helping others to catch fish.On these trips I supply the gear tie the rigs bait the hooks and get a lot of pleasure from it .The fishing was pretty average for ki standards and the weather forecasters were having a bad week. The tuna reports of small schools out from Emu Bay had us doing a fair bit o trolling for no success,so we decided to spend most of our trip fishing in close chasing whiting.Over the next few days the same story kept repeating .We would pull up to a whiting spot that has been productive for us in the past,4 rods go in and 4 rods come up tight double header of small pinky snapper.Pick comes up we move only for this to happen time and time again. In all we only landed about a dozen plump whiting but it was great to see the snapper stocks are on the improve.

    Keyword there IF...
These fingerlings will not reach sexual maturity for another 3-4 years.
That's 3-4 years of avoiding predators, nets etc.
So you're still relying on the 'original' stocks by the time the ban is lifted again.

It's nice to hear we've acted swiftly to get the first step sorted with the fingerlings (just over 12 months) 👏. expected this to be released just as the ban finished 😆
Hopefully our government can take a leaf out of the Vic book (in banning all commercial net fishing of Port Phillip Bay) and do something similar here in our gulfs and passages. Perhaps going one step further and ban long lining in these zones also.
I don't have an issue with charters with in these zones, but maybe put a stricter limit especially to the larger snapper above 80cm. Maybe 2 fish max per boat above 80cm as well as a minimum 25% cut to their limits.
Your paying to go on a charter for the experience as well as catching some fish to take home for a feed (not a month worth of food so to speak).
    That's my 2 cents.

We got our bag limit last monday. We ate about 4 kilos of them on thursday. All we do is put what we want to eat into one of them large white buckets with fresh saltwater. The day after we caught them we went down to port noarlunga jetty and filled about 3 white buckets. Each day we change the water. On the day of cook up we tip them into the sink and give them a real good rinse in freshwater. When it comes to cooking we just fry up some garlic, shallots and ginger add the cockles followed by 1/2 a cheap $4.00 bottle of clean skin dry white wine. Put the lid on the wok or the frypan like we used and let them steam for about 5 minutes, this should just about get any traces of sand left in the cockles out. We also cooked up some fettucine and then added a jar of leggos alfredo and about 300ml of cream. To that we add the cockles bring it back to the boil and then serve. Bloody delicious mate and i don't reckon i tasted one grain of sand.

Just thought i'd put a thread up of some of the other lures i have painted up at the moment. Originally my main goal was to mainly paint the topwater Lures for YFW and sell them just as an hobby sort of thing. However after watching countless hours of Youtube and reading forums I now know there is alot more i can paint/create and not to pump them out quantity wise. Instead getting creative and painting for Quality and doing it more for myself.
Unfortunately I have painted up most of the blanks I originally had. I have a few hundred dollars worth of blanks, films, stencils and bits and pieces i have purchased being held as  the coronavirus hit most of the areas I purchase my gear from. So am waiting for freight companies to resume there services so i can start painting up new lures..
My main blanks I am planning to paint will be for the upcoming season. So will mainly be Trout, Redfin and Salmon lures. I have a range of Stickbaits, and metals for the Salmon. The Trout and Redfin will be a range of minnows perfect for both dams/lakes and creeks and streams.   I will keep you all up to date with the processes and what I create.  In the mean time here are a couple I have painted over the last month or so ....

Cheers all. Got some big plans and ideas running through my mind so we'll see how i go...
Tried something different tonight.... Every Lure painter seems to sign there baits with there signature, but i have fat fingers and its hard to sign on small lures so saw another idea on Youtube and decided to give it a go.... Looks really good in my opinion. just adds that special touch...

I printed on some waterslide transfer paper and then slide it onto the bait... then cleared over the top of it.... I like it as mentioned adds an special touch to a custom job.... Can only do Black fonts at the moment but once i upgrade will be doing other colours to contrast the lure i am painting.... Got something special planned with this water transfer paper, just waiting on my blanks to come!

Savage reacted to doobie in First attempt at homemade cork floats.
As some might know, I had a fishing float made up of some dowel with a foam indicator as my main float rig.  It did it's job very well although sometimes a tangle would occur which was always easy to undo.  However, after re-spooling my reel with lighter mono, I kept getting more and more tangles - some to the point of cutting the line and re-rigging.
I decided to try something else and didn't really want to buy the stand shop float.  So a bit of look around on Google I saw a guy make some cork floats that looked quite good.   Problem was I didn't have any wine corks except 'champagne' corks courtesy of the missus.
Being the cheap skate person I am lol, I FB'd my neighborhood for some and received a few - and free
Problem was that the rest of the materials for the way I wanted to make the floats was a bit expensive   But if I want to make more then the cheaper each one will become, plus the satisfaction of making my own.
    Here's what I did ....
First - drilled holes through the cork and with some wood glue put a 6mm piece of dowel through it and let dry overnight.

Second - put a couple bits of wood together with a hole to place the dowel to keep in place whilst sanding.
I used 60 grit at first and down to 120 grit to get a smooth finish.  This one is a champagne cork.

A few different shapes and was also careful on a few not take away the wine 'emblem' on the cork so to give a bit of a different look.

Then I cut some safety pins keeping the end ring part that will help attach a bit of weight for buoyancy and leader.   I originally used some standard sewing cotton (black) but felt it may not hold overtime, so used some braid on the rest.   Put some wood glue over it all to strengthen and let dry overnight.

The fifth step was to give some primer to the ends ready for some enamel paint.  I used Gesso craft priming paint and let that dry for 3 hours.

Then the other end and again let dry for 3 hours.

Then some black gloss enamel paint on the bottom of the float.  Two coats given and will give a little extra to the braid/ring.

The eighth step was giving two coating with a vibrant yellow enamel.

Not too bad bad so far and could left without further painting, but decided to add a little decoration before giving three coats of Spar Marine vanish, by dipping the floats straight into the tin.  Let them dry well and light sand before next coating.  Pat the bottom tips to soak up the excess drips.

Turned out reasonably ok for my first effort although a little 'rough around the edges' lol
Took a bit of time and few dollars but 🤷‍♂️

Well I finally caught my 10.000th Tasmanian wild trout since we moved here back in March 2000..  it's a milestone I never gave a thought to until the start of this trout season when I was going through my end of season reports when I noticed I only needed 129 trout to reach 10,000 trout here in Tassie.. So yesterday and only needing another seven trout I reached it, actually caught & released fourteen all up..
    cheers

Winter is amongst us. Some fishing banter is in order.
2005, 13 years old. I convince my parents to go to Broome. And somehow book a charter. $140 per person was the going rate. A great day out, landing 3 sails. 9 for the day. I send my photo into fishing world. Receiving my prize but not returning my only photo.
2018.  13 years later. I send the skipper a email. "Somewhere in July i said"   He tracks back to the day in his books and sends me the other two fellow fishers details. As i knew one had a camera. A respond from Tasmania.. with full detail ov the day. Soon enough photos arived in the mail. Reunited.
