Soobz reacted to Meppstas in My PB wild brown trout for 2020/21 season so far..
I've been meaning to put this on the site for some time, forgot all about it..
Not for the want of trying I finally caught and released a decent size wild brown trout for a change. Even better was the fact it was my personal best of the season so far. Still hoping to break the one kilo mark & better before the season ends on the last Sunday closest to the end of April 2021. The larger three rivers (Meander, Mersey & Leven) I fish do hold a few trout well over the kilo size, it's just a matter of being in the right place at the right time.
     cheers

If I kept it neat and tidy, my financial director would easily see how many fishing assets I actually have....

No... better to keep it messy... "In confusion there is profit" (Tony Curtis--" Don't give up the ship"(I think))

OH.. and dont store it all in the one spot...

I use those, but am going to try the egg type as they are stronger and as far as I can tell more secure as they overlock, and seem the closest thing to a loop knot.

Of course they are "cross rock"! If you want to annoy a Japanese person ask them to say "racecourse"
(I have a number of Japanese friends)
BTW, these are Y300, which is like $4, why do we pay $10?

I've got a large-ish tub that keeps it all in one place and can throw in the car if going away, and in that I use a combo of smaller boxes:
    https://www.bunnings.com.au/tactix-380mm-22-compartment-organiser-storage-box_p2580702
    or it's smaller 30cm? $4 variant
    And I also use the Decor red sealed ones from the supermarket;
    https://www.decor.com.au/product/match-ups-clips-oblong-4l/ um I think it's that one.
The Tactix boxes are for lures, sinkers, hooks, swivels etc
The Decor boxes: 1 for soft plastics (which can be smelly and you want a sealed box),  1 for line and other larger items.
When I'm going out I'll make up 1 Decor box and 1 tactix box that both fit in a cheap $20 backpack (Port Markets). I also have 1 thin Decor Tellfresh tool case with side cutters, multi-tool, screwdriver, just in case I get in trouble (split ring pliers on my PFD).
I am not a neat person by default, so my aim is compartment as much as I can, have it easy to see in shallow boxes.
What I don't have a good solution for is snelled hooks and rigs, which is why I am fishing lures way more now

When you look at some of these kayak vids you'll notice they'll have 3 or 4 rods/reels with them,it's incase something goes wrong with the line/reel and your missing valuable time trying to sort it out while they're biting. Some may have variable line/rod strengths or lure sizes,if i'm out in the boat i'll usually have 4 rod/reel combo's ready to go with varying lures.Don't get caught in thinking i'll spend the day out only to be heading home within the first 15mins out,and sitting in a yak trying to sort out a problem isn't ideal.Been there done that.

I finally got around to giving one of two of Brayden's hard body lures ( 41mm 4g Brown trout pattern) a go today in the Mersey River in dull overcast conditions and very clear water..
the lure worked a treat picking up a brown & a rainbow trout in quick time.. the fishing was tough today with a low moving in, I did hook and lose two trout on it as well.
They're a great action light weight lure, very impressed with it.. here's a couple of pic;'s..
    cheers
    Adrian...

The brown was the first that fell to the lure..

Then not long after a rainbow was landed..

Human nature can be quite predictable. I think the main driver is confirmation bias.
People were caught out last time and despite all the reassurances that there would be plenty of supply, those that didn't stock up went short.
They see other people panic buying and they see shortages = there is a shortage and you need to panic buy.
    Its a vicious feedback loop

I can't believe the panic buying that goes on, as soon as there a sign of covid-19 virus all hell let's loose in the super markets.
We had it on 7news here the day of the new outbreak in SA  and people were buying up on toilet paper straight away, empty shelves in no time at all..
What's wrong with just doing a normal shop, I haven't heard that the virus gives you the "trots/runs" so what's with this toilet paper epidemic..
Stay safe there everyone, thinking of you all.. take care.. and let's hope they get on top of it ASAP like they did before..
    cheers

Are the masses that are flocking to the shops unnecessarily in blind panic realise that now is the worst time to be in places with high densities of people in terms of coming into contact with this virus? The behaviour of many people at the moment is a disgrace.

Just quietly, the people flocking to stores now is exactly the opposite of what we should be doing.
All these people flooding the stores when it is clear that supermarkets will still be open during lockdown; why?
The people then crowd and cause chaos, potentially spreading it even more.
Just wear a face covering and go during the lockdown people, it's all good. Be efficient and plan things well and it'll be fine.

I'd understand shops that will be locked down such as Bottle shops even more so, but man, this is a great way to spread a virus, by cramming into tight spaces on mass.

Yeah bang for buck on special you can get a lot of the savage stuff really cheap.

If you've got the gumption to ask for a bit of the price to be knocked off the savage stuff, they often will do it just to keep stock moving in my experience

the shimano sonics at BCF are good. 7ft 2-4 kg, there is a soft plastic model and a bait model. both have good action and are light. I think they are about 70$

For the kayak I prefer a rod to be 7 foot long and graphite. I use alot of cheaper rods from the yak and used the anaconda entry level Esteem graphite rods for years. These were 7 foot graphite, skeleton reel seat, weighed under 100g and were $50 on sale. Currently I am running a few savage gear MPP2 7'2" 3 to 5kg rods. They were down to $30 on sale last year from BCF so I picked up 4.
Head instore and have a play. Graphite will be much nicer and lighter to hold. If you can hold off till sale time you can save some $

Yeah I'd like to see if soaking the spools for 30 mins, made any difference.

Its the water absorption that is supposed to weaken the mono line.

But those results give real cause for concern for the "Flouro Is Tougher camp".

There are so many lies in the fishing game thats its hard to tell whats real - even stated diameters and breaking strains are often wildly different from what it says on the spool.
