Not only do commercials make more noise, they provide funds to the political parties......& are in cahoots with the whole corrupt system which includes PIRSA. Money talks, decisions made in stealth without any transparency and you just get told - these are the new rules....All just BS & totally wrong.

I would have closed it, did nothing, opened it on the actual opening date and pocketed the 5million
    Same thing really 🤣🤣

    Well, where do I start.
I managed to get out on the boat on Australia day and launch at the so called 'new and improved'.
On the fishing front, it was very slow and didn't do well. But more importantly the ramp itself (I was curious to see what the improvements were).
First of all, I couldn't believe my eyes that $5million was spent to 'upgrade' the ramp. On what??
To dig a few more deeper holes for the new pylons? Come on!
To put on a steel capping to 3/4 of the the existing steel divider wall where sailing club boats launch?
the pontoons were meant to go out deeper... I don't so and IF it does, we're talking centimeters not meters. This does not help with launching and retrieving on low tides and will still take the standard 10mins minimum to retrieve per boat (by the time you dock, walk to the car and retrieve), which is WAY too long when 30 boats want to come back when the weather turns.
I've been involved in the concrete industry for 17 years and lucky enough to work with one of the original persons who helped construct the first concrete slabs for the ramp. The new precast concrete floor slabs are a joke. Mark my words, in a year or 2 time, when the algae growth starts on them, there will be cars sliding into the water if the cars are borderline to boat weight ration. These slabs should have NEVER been a 'smooth' finish. They need to be abrasive / grippy and whoever managed to convince the designers to 'cut in the grooves' after the panel was constructed, is an imbecile. What an absolute joke.
I've been harping on about it, but how there wasn't a 3rd pontoon added is a lost opportunity to make this ramp the best ramp in metro Adelaide.
Some of the original pontoons were kept and re-used. Fine. But the least you could do is apply new rubber edging so its all uniform with the new ones.
The pay machines, 1 is out of order and the other you can barley see the screen, yet you want $15 to launch.
Good to see the useless wind turbines disappear in the wash down area, another waste of time and money experiment.
We want to visually see a change, improvement and get bang for our buck. Apart from the new precast slabs, they have purely just polished a turd!
    What an embarrassment!
    End of Rant.

The washers on the plunger of bait pumps deteriorate pretty quickly. But no need to rush off to the tackle shop, just pull out that old pair of thongs you kept for DIY projects.
Put the thong on the ground and place the end of the bait pump on top, then twist back and forth while pushing down. It will soon cut a perfectly sized circle, which you can use as a replacement washer.

They're very popular/useful at Parham for launching/retrieving boats, didn't think they were used for fishing but I spose they could be.

Nice work. I'd appreciate tips on snook if you're looking for a different fish, I'm not happy with the way I do those, and there's no other videos I can find.

Just completed a video on how to fillet fish (using Tommy Rough as an example).

Soobz reacted to MAH in How should I rig this soft plastic - Savage Gear Manic Creature
Tried the new softy plastic this morning. Not a success, but also not a failure.
I'm certainly not BJSlick and fishing the morning tide off the beach for YFW on metro beaches is new to me. I normally fish for YFW in the afternoon on shallow areas with the rising tide flooding over the sand. Metro, my normal patch is Kingston Park, using nippers. I also fish the YP quite a bit for YFW, Moonta Bay between Simms Cove and Rossiters Point, or the sand spit at Black Point. So this is new territory for me.
Also, I don't usually use soft plastics, on metro beaches I use nippers and on the YP I use nippers or seaweed worms. My favorite bait are the seaweed worms.
I was going to try the Savage Gear Manic Creature rigged on a worm hook and a sliding sinker, plus the Zman Crawz on a ned rig. But I decided to concentrate on one and went with the Savage Gear.
The rig was Daiwa Bassers Worm Hook #1 attached to 8lb leader a palomar knot. The leader had a float stop and small bead to stop the sinker from sliding back all the way to the hook.

The soft plastic presents really nice on the hook.
One problem was the tail would slide back towards the hook mouth and bunch up. I solved this by adding a float stop which helps keep the soft plastic looped over the offset. You can see in the photo a normal hook and one that I added the float stop to.

The day wasn't a success because I didn't catch my target species of YFW, but that has more to do with my lack of knowledge about where they would be schooled up. It did however entice a few small STs. So it does catch fish, I just need to try one of my normal patches to see if I can catch YFW with it.
Most likely I will wait until the new year and give Kingston Park a go. Then a bit later I'll be trying Black Point. Tomorrow it's the yak in the morning at Brighton for some squid.... maybe I'll take a few soft plastics and drop them over some broken ground.

This clip is interesting, because the point the hooks are facing the head not the tail, this has the fish attacking the lure from the tail end not the claws end. I think a fish would find it a lot easier to swallow a nipper if it took it from the tail end, it would have to be easier to to get down their throat.

Best thing you can safely do is get straight onto the SA Fishing app and submit a report.  Worth having on your phone for size limit info etc anyway and you can do reports within the app.  You can do this silently, without obviously calling it in.
Otherwise, ring Fishwatch on 1800 065 522 and report it.  Save the number in your phone.  If they have officers nearby, they'll send them around.  At the very least, they'll know when and where it's happening and you'd hope would increase patrols accordingly.

Not sure, didn’t ask but shameless baby crab pillaging was rampant, particularly at Wallaroo.
As for stepping in i wouldn't advise doing it, I'll get stabbed one day but it just makes me so annoyed when you give benefit of the doubt and explain size limits only to be ignored completely.

As @Softy said, more fisheries officers, which requires more funding. Education can only get so far with out tangible consequences.

This sort of thing really pushes my buttons. I fish Glenelg jetty quite a bit and see similar things happening. There is a bloke that is seen as a local garfish guru, but I see him regularly slip small fish into his white bucket of shame. He knows what he's doing, he doesn't measure them and just slyly slips them into the bucket.
Just from my own observations, at Glenelg, most people are doing the right thing measuring crabs. But some "old timers" are taking the mickey with the fish they are keeping.

What are they doing with all these crabs? Are they selling them?
And good on you for having the courage to step in and release some undersized crabs.

So I walked a number of Yorkers jetties on the weekend and was shocked and disgusted by a.) The lack of legal crabs while huge numbers of smaller ones were present and b.) Some people's total disregard to size limits and not keeping berried up females.
I honestly didn't see a crab bigger than barely legal, they should be everywhere and saw certain groups who between them probably kept well in excess of a thousand undersized crabs (even after I helpfully released a few buckets worth).
People may say so many small models is a good sign but with no bigger ones amongst them it is not and unless the indiscriminate non compliance with the rules is policed stocks could be in real trouble.
Please tell me I'm being alarmist or not was a one off thing, I'd really like to believe it but I fear our crab stocks are being raped to oblivion with no one even attempting to stop it.

That's the thing, the knot strength is usually way less than the braid strength. FWIW, I've broken 20lb FC rock at the clinch knot before I broke the alberto braid/FC knot with 0.128mm braid, but that's a tiny sample size. The thing is that's trying to un-snag, I look forward to a fish that I can do that with :).
