need recommendation - long 'whippy' rod for gar
brenton replied to yellowfin85's topic in Bait & Tackle
Have a look at the nibble tips at around 8'6"many of them are rubbish but if you can find a Tica Xtreme and use the green tip they are the bomb, can also double as a land based YF whiting or bream rod. cheers nereus -
the 8 ft Shimano Catana is a great rod for the money,i've caught everything from YF whiting to 3lb salmon on it and handled both....i won;t say with ease though because they do lack enough power to lift a salmon of that size up a jetty etc but it great for smaller stuff. cheers nereus

Support your local retailer i say,if everyone goes online then there will be no local guys left. I have found that if you develop loyalty to one shop they will match anything online or close to it,even better in some cases. Some of those guys on the Montabello trip were loyal local customers of the shop. cheers nereus

Well i haven't but he knows his stuff, personally though i would be after a very specific rod to go custom. There is sooo much quality off the shelf stuff about i wouldn't bother unless rebuilding an old Sabre or something. cheers brenton

brenton replied to Ugly4Life's topic in Industry News
“In response to concerns about confusion relating to the types of fishing activities allowed in the area, the government reviewed the existing arrangements and made the decision to simplify the arrangement and now allow line fishing from both sides of the breakwater.â€Sounds like its just the breakwater to me but i didn't check the Pirsa link cheers brenton -
It wouldn't make much difference i reckon the tides are good both ways unless your planning on drop netting in deep water. cheers brenton
