    That's good advice. Bream will often take your SP when it is not moving. Flick your SP out' date=' preferably in an area that's holding fish!, and let it flutter to the bottom, keep an eye on the line, any little odd movements in the line on the drop could indicate a bite, so strike. When it hits the bottom, indicated by your line slackening, leave it there for 5 or so seconds, then lift the SP off the bottom with whichever method you prefer (little hop, big long lift, double twitch lift etc...) then bring the rod tip back down, reel in the slack line and watch the line as the SP flutters back to the bottom, leave it to sit for 5 seconds or so and repeat.... Occasionally a Bream will smash your SP and do the hard work for you, but usually the bite is only indicated by a small movement in your line, strike on this movement and hopefully you hook up. Good luck.

    Hi all, thought I would share with you my Salt and Pepper Recipe I use. It's reasonable quick and easy but I know two of the most fussiest eaters and they both love it!!I don't do anything fancy with my squid, like soak it in anything for a day. These squid were caught a few hours earlier and basically cleaned then cooked. Ingredients: Squid Lemon pepper, I will explain portioning later. Salt Flour ( I believe, if you are gluten intolerant, you can use corn flour?) Milk Oil for cooking, I used rice bran.I prefer to open up my squid and then cut it into strips rather then make rings, I see no problem with making it into rings if you are that way inclined but I don't know if you would get the same texture. There is a sort of soft side of the squid, the inside I assume, find that side. Once you have, score lines into it, from side to side on a 45 degree angle from the top. The goal is to cut 1 cm boces into it, which should hopefully look something like this. Note, Don't cut through the squid, only want to score one side. Mixing the actual coating, in this example I had about 2 cups of flour, roughly 2-3 tablespoons of LP and I also add a little extra salt and this was for 6 smallish squid . How I check if it is enough is by smelling the mixture, the mixture will give off a really lemony smell, that's when I know I have a good amount. This photo shows how I have scored and cut the squid into about an inch wide strips. Chuck the strips into a container of milk, make sure to cover them well so the mixture sticks to it. Once they are "milked" roll them in the mixture thoroughly, making sure to cover all of the squid. I really recommend trying just one to begin with to make sure everything is right, if you own a deep fryer, that will make it alto easier but if not and cooking on a stove top with a saucepan like this, it's important to get it the right temp range. Trying to evenly space the squid, throw it in, it literally takes 30 - 45 seconds to cook, again cook one, take it out and try it. I usually know when it is done by the colour, but that isn't always right. Also this is the sort of consistency you want on the squid. Once they're are all cooked, time to eat. Goes great with some Aioli and a minimum chips from up the local. Enjoy and let me know how it goes and any feed back you have :D

    So much useable and practical info guys ,!! Cheers Damien,mog,4the and unhooked. I will be utilising many of you concepts when I sneak out under the cover of darkness to my spot Xs. Also. I am about to start tying my own snapper flashers onto 7/0 circles to experiment with something different and to try and do some fine tuning.. Once again many thanks guys, cooki

    i have my rods in a HORIZONTAL rod rack with about 1 - 2 kg of drag pressure set. with that tension they usually hook themselves and dont have to strike. i belive if u strike with circles they dont hook up as well. another great thing about using circles is that they very very rarely get gut hooked which is much better for the fish if you intend on releasing. good luck.

    yea seems to work well for me. i got the idea off a dvd and it explained that doing it this way the rod loads up straight away rather than the rod bending if the angle is to high and the rod will bend and the fish spits the bait before it hooks up.

    Yes circles are deadly. I use twin circles on every bait I throw at snapper except for whiting heads where I will use a single 6/0. All my circles are Gamakatsu Octopus circles and are set in strike/fighting drag whilst sitting in the rod holder or if im holding the rod at the time.Quite often when fishing in amongst ruggers its possible to leave your rod in the holder and numerous ruggers will tap at it until finally one that is big enough will swallow the hook and load your rod up.All of our big reds are caught this way, but normally with big baits ie whole tommies, big chunks of squid or half slimey Macks.Shallow water is no different, but if reef fishing and the fish are smaller in size we normally still run twin circles but downsize the bait a little.In my opinion there is no need to have your stinger hook as a standard mustard pattern. Ive had great results for many years running twin circles snoozed 10-12cm apart.For me though, I never let a snapper run with the bait. Circles by design are meant to be load up in the corner of the mouth and normally they set with fighting drag the moment the fish turns or moves away and the hooks pull tight in there mouth. By letting them swim away your just giving them more time to drop the bait. But again this is just opinion. I even fish circles unweighted in shallow water with reel in gear. as soon as the fish hits it and runs you get an instant hook upI also agree with Moggy that once the fish is hooked. it pays to give the rod one firm lift to set the hook properly, but only after you feel the fishes weight on your rod. And of course there is nothing wrong with running single circle hook rigs as well.

    Funny you brought this up, have been talking about this subject to few mates about what angle should the rod be at.I agree with you say with deep water, depending on tide run, having them HORIZONTAL, but saying that I have bent my rod rack up a little.In shallower waters say up to 15 mtrs I've been working with the rods in the standard angle rod holders.Reason, once a fish has taken the bait & the drag has been pre set & thats light, watch how much a quality rod bends, it's almost perfect bend in the angle rod holder & that way it keeps good pressure on the hook until it's been set properly, if it hasn't already.Just food for thought

    for snapper i always use gamakatsu 4/0 5/0 & 6/0. i use a patanoster rig with one dropper with 2 hooks. usually run a circle on the bottom and a suicide on top depending wat bait im using. i have personally found that using this setup i get a ver high hook up rate. so id say give them a go. good luck.

    throw a big bait out off the outer harbor rocks in the channel. could get a snapper, sting ray, shark. use fresh squid or tommies but always take a bag of pillies just incase. around a 7kg rod and reel set up will pull in most fish. use a light rod for gar, tommies salmon trout etc. use burley. good luck.

    Well , what can i say . We will start with , what an awesome time an i was very privileged to be invited along . As far as i know there was a fair few entries asking the boys Andrew and Nick from Hook Line and Sinker to come fishing with them and out of all those entries they answer Mully Madness , Shane "mulloway" Evans to go down Goolwa beach to have a crack at some beach Mully's . I was just lucky to have Shane ask me to come along and help out . The weather was not in our favour and despite this Andrew managed his first Mulloway . Wasn't the biggest going a rough 30cm but still a Mully . Damian who was also invited by Shane landed a Gummy shark as well , that was just over legal . They got some pizzas for dinner and a few beers to wash it down . These blokes were really chill and great to have a fish with . The episode should be aired April the 13th i think . Hope it turns out well ;

    Snapper fishing is already too easy, find a spot drop a burley pot, drop your bait and wait for rod to bend,,, if nothing happens repeat process at a different spot I only charge $400 for that info but for this one time only offer it's free

    From what I've read/heard it's not worth the coin.Realistically why would you want/need to pay someone $500 to teach you how to catch snapper?That's part of the fun, isn't it? Working out when, where, tides, moons, bait etc. It makes it more rewarding if you can work out how to fish a drop properly. Having a reliable spot is great, but snapper move through just about every area at sometime or another, weather it be Winter, Summer, night or day. So pick a likely looking area and fish it at various times. If it's got food and is in a good area you'll get snapper once you work it out. Doesn't matter whether it's 200m offshore or 40km. He talks about maximizing your bag limits too (fish before and after midnight for a "double bag"). But that's just being greedy in my opinion. What are you going to do with 12 snapper over 60cm? If you're a solo fisherman than yeah, fair enough, 4 big reds is fine. I would use the money elsewhere, like fuel for sounding. A good charter operator will teach you plenty and a lot cheaper.
