  1. ive scored a couple of gummies there over the years and the rays are a definite go.
  2. Picked up an old Butterworth rod the other day. Before my time-even had the wide white ceramic runners with the wire center lol. Ive decided to do a rebuild as the old girls in complete condition but was wondering if any one can direct me to where i could buy some rod lacquer to coat the old girl once shes all rubbed back and re-furbished
  3. How about those bloddy squid in the cover-wouldnt mind a few like that myself
  4. I'll sit back and wait-reckon its still a tad too early to jump the gun
  5. Well reels all working and finished a- big thanks to B@K who sent me some woodworking books that proved totally handy when it came to explaining how to handle the wood and treat it for preservation etc.Finished product is in pic attached-cant believe the old girl was bo bashed about, green, siezed up and now she looks a treat-hell even got the ratchet working perfectly so shes heading into retirement on the wall.
  6. Scored a blast from the past today-an old wooden alvey reel. Poor things that dinged up that im gonna have to give it a quick clean to see if its a brown cedar or red cedar model. All the metal parts are so green i could use em as luderick bait  Cant believe the poor thing was in such a state. Bought a 500 fibreglass model at a sale for $5 and the bloke threw the oldy in. Going to start stripping it down and see whats saveable as ive decided to bring it back to life. Before i get started i'll take a pic and let everyone know how the jobs going. Hopefully i can restore it fully (wont even

    Turton

Good luck with this one cweed lol. Have u tried googling for spots as theres a few state sites that give coords for everyone to use. May be one for turton area.
  8. Top question rangfish. Ive been wondering myself about lipgrippers so maybe I'll get some good answers too
  9. I'll be having a go mid december so leave me 1 or 2  Gonna ignore my own advice and go out in a mates boat for a go. Hes a crabbing fanatic so I'll be dropping a line over to wait for a scream while probably chucking a lure or jag about on light gear. Always said my boating days were over but hell even us epileptics have to have some boating action once in a while.
  10. Yep the op shops are the places to go :woohoo:
  11. thanks - i wasnt sure whether u went between the two or across from one tp the other
  12. I scored an old 6' ish game rod at a garage sale today and it has normal runners until the tip which has 2 roller guides-a large one at the tip of the rod and a smaller one in front of it. As ive never used roller guides in my life i was curious as to how you thread the line through.
  13. Years ago i got hold of 3 busted up solid fibeglass fly fishing rods and converted them into what i call my all purpose light spinning rod-scored many a feast lol. I was curious about the fire bloods after seeing an ad for them and as i'd never heard of them thought i'd pop the question to others so that i could stay informed about gear etc
  14. Anyone know much about the Fire Blood seires of rods and reels. Ive heard a few people mention them but have no idea about prices and quality
  15. Im landbased as well so when the snappers off i follow my other like-fish for something else
  16. i dont know it u are still allowed too but we used to score the small beaches along the port-mainly from the silos up to just past the stell wharf
  17. Nice fish indeed-dont hear much of that going on there nowadays Back in the 70's we were always pulling a snapper or two in-especcially on stormy night
  18. Bugger just hit the tab and lost my typing-well here i go again When the jag cloth splits i prefer to stitch it back together as i find it lasts better than gkue. If its beyond help i rip the cloth off and hand paint the jag. When my jags are shot i like to cobble one together using the old jag spikes and an old lure. Works well and its fun to see action with the jag-gets the other anglers in bigtime
  19. The lake suffered a major chemical spill a few months back and a stack of fish were killed. Fishing is back on but as far as i hear its slow going with only carp about-no signs of the few callop that were in there as yet.
  20. actually just out of curiosity-what parts can u eat , how do u clean them and what parts do u keep to use as flake??
  21. top fish - bet that'll look good at his 21st birthdays pin up board
  22. If you feel like a change try steaming them. You can do it whole or break them up into pieces before steaming. Whole crabs steam for abot 10 mins and pices about 7 mins. I mix garlic into the water as well as coat different batches with crushed garlic, ginger or chilis
  23. Good to see the bronzies starting up. Poor bloke wouldnt be able to release it as others wouldve screamed about letting a shark loose off of a jetty.
  24. Hell if he died of non dangerous natural causes they could maybe clean him up, bung him in a freezer box and choof him over here for the main treat at a bbq with a few beers
  25. Yep silver whiting are sand whiting. YFW are YFW and KGW are KGW. There is no size or bag limit on sandys and yep they taste great. The little buggers can get to quite a decent size and can also bite aggressively-ive caught them on softies and even on a popper a couple of times
