I wont go into this at much other than this law is complete rubbish. You can technically still shark fish during the day as you can use hooks upto 4/0 or 6/0? and highest pound mono possible. So your legally still able to shark fish during the day at any time, whats the difference between taking a bait out on wire and taking a bait out on mono 200m? where this laws reason behind it is your bring in sharks close to shore yet you can still fish mono and still have a chance of catching it on mono anyway, wheres the logic in that? 1 fish out in the middle of a massive coastline. Your aloud to shark fish anywhere else i.e yorks what about the people about the people you put in "danger" shark fishing over there, there's still people swimming? logic?I could talk about this all day, but i wont because I'm wasting my time. Its just sad that they can make a law like that to take away someones freedom of right to fish the sea, everyone has the exact same right to use the sea and banning something that has been around for 1000's of years is sad, hate to see where we are at in the next 50years. Big middle finger to the people that contributed destroying our rights.Kiss shark fishing goodbye the end of this year unless we can make a stand for our rights.

I don't really want to start a 'war' by posting either but I've gotta put my opinion on the table on this topic as well.I understand the community concerns that it can be perceived as dangerous but I'd argue that the 100+ years of shark fishing history off the Adelaide metro coastline entirely negates any concerns of apparent danger. If it is as dangerous as people claim then why have we seen zero shark attacks which are directly attributable to people fishing for sharks?? In 100+ years? I've struggled to even find one incident in any state in Australia. This should put to rest any fears anyone has about fishing related shark attacks in Australia. Reading this shows that almost every attack is related to either surfing' date=' diving or snorkelling and usually well away from non-surf beaches and beaches lacking reef structure. I also note that we haven't banned any of those activities.I hardly think a Bronzie with a hook in his mouth is in any position to think about what's he's having for lunch. Since most sharks are opportunistic feeders, it stands to reason that they would take a fresh dead bait presented by an angler [i']before[/i] taking a human as it represents a much easier feed for a shark. The simple realities of the situation are that the sharks are already in the water with the swimmers. Fishing for them does not attract them nor make them more likely to attack a person. History has proven this to be the case beyond all reasonable doubt.Yes it does happen to be the law now but from my point of view it's a law which is not backed by any evidence or science and it has been put in place simply because of the perceived danger, which is not really good enough IMO. There's a perceived danger that I might get attacked by a dog on the way home, but we haven't banned all dog ownership. Maybe we should, considering there were 6000 dog attacks between 2001 - 2003 alone which required hospitalization. More than seven times the total amount of shark attacks ever recorded in Australia.

I've got photos of mates hooked up last season on 50lb 50w and sitting with about 150m of line left. 50w is a perfect reel for big sharks. I just got back from grange hooked into a big smoothie on 50lb on a small overhead had 350m of line on it nearly got spooled on its first run. A good quality 50w not only holds 700+ meters of 50lb also has a good drag system to be able to run big drag pressure for large amount of time and not heat up. Buy what you want it's up to you but if you loose a fish of a life time you'll be the one in tears not me.. Every shark fisher I know runs a 50w or 9/0 from land or larger

Hey mate,Caught heaps of these things, they are good fun. We fish pretty light on small overheads some times we pull out the bream gear for the most fun, be careful though if you hook a good one and you dont have the best drags they will fry them lol.Aim for shallow water with them not deep for best results they like to come up and bask on the flats in the sun you will find alot of them in knee deep water, i like to fish for them when the tides up and the flats have water on them, sometimes we will site cast for them sometimes anchor. If you anchor for them chuck some berley under the boat and cast within 10-20m of boat. if you site cast just watch out for dark patches they are easy to spot on a clear water day with sunnies on, when you see one try to watch its movement and cast 5-10m infront you can spook them and they will spin back around the other way if you spot one and chuck it out if its hungry it will come and eat even if they are not that hungry keep casting at it and they will pick it up eventually. Give it some time to eat the bait they crush it up into moosh and they swim off with it its pretty hard not to hook upto them, Also if you go to pull your rod up to check bait strike hard alot of times they are sitting on your baits when you go to bring your bait in.I like to use a heavy leader of about 100lb as they can tail you anything 6/0 upwards. They take anything, even if its been in the freezer for 5years. But fresh salmon trout are good bit of blood works well.Becareful to as they really try to go you sometimes with there tailHope that helps someone, there is a landbased spot a bit further down on torrens island side couldnt fit it in the spot.p.s they will take a livebait seen them smash the hell out of a small school of salmon trout, they can reach some speeds on those flats!

Could be a fuel problem, water in fuel, breather, cracked hose, blocked fuel filter, fuel pump, blocked jet in carby for an example,Or could be a power pack, ignition lead, coil, spark plug breaking down under load, one of the sensors sending the power pack into limp home mode (rev. limiting), dodgy wiring or it could be something completely different.Start with the simple things and keep it simple, as it could be a cheap fix.

I agree and disagree. I don't like giving them attention, but I also don't like them spewing their uneducated garbage out to people who might not know any better. A lot of people take stories like that at face value and I'd hate to see someone decide not to take up fishing because they only got Ms Anti-Anglings side of the story. But in principle, I agree with you Ranger.

You'll get them on bait ( if you can hook them unlike me lol) and lures. Thanks for that boys what do you boys recommend brand and circle hook size? Do you use a running rig with the circles? Also being bait runner do you just flick it into gear or do u tighten the drag slowly, I'm not a big fan of that because I don't know what drag I'm running. Should I put pressure on the main run or wait until they slow. Thanks guys

Hey guys,Wasnt going to post up but i have had enough with missing mulloway.Me and my mates have been doing alot of fishing in westlakes for mulloway at the moment. I have had no dramas in locating and getting runs but i just cant seem to hook them.I have had them scream off and striked, i have waited for the 2nd run, i have waited a minute while its swam around deciding what to do and just cant pull off a hook up. I usually find i have yanked them back out its mouth they either come back alive with a few marks, dead with no marks, or the back of the tail has teeth marks. I have always ran a single hook usually a 6/0 if its a larger bait ill run a 8/0 always pin them in the back. I went 2 hook rig tonight, one in the back of the head and other above its tail, missed a hook up but that might have just been bad luck. Im also thinking about going a hook through its mouth and pin a treble though the back of its tail thoughts on this?.I see alot of people have there drags preset but thats a bit hard where we fish im using a bait runner so i have it backed off then wack it into gear.Any help is apprecaited on the best way to increase the hook up, its killing me inside.

Thanks for all the replys, issue i will have is keep drag tight. Ill take 2 rods, give circle hook on the bait runner and a double hook setup on the other. See which one does better. I wont piss about with what they are doing with the fish as soon as i get to the rod ill give it a wack.I have found in my experiance in the lake, they either grab it and scream off, then you find your line gets slack then rips heaps tight constantly, you can feel the fish through the rod.Or they take off with a quick little burst then does as above goes slack and tightens up.

@emuYou can sit around all day and do little calculations on what COULD happen, but at the end of the day just live life, dont base your life around a stat. Now i understand you worried about your grandkids/family/friends/civilians, but i mean come on, it is just 1 small stat in millions of things you could die to but the beautiful thing about sharks is that can be avoid by not swimming at all, but if you would like to. Dont swim at the prime times of dawn and dusk, dont go out far and if you do dont swim around like a injured seal and beware that they are around in the summer months. At the end of the day there is no recorded shark attacks off a metro beach, where shark fishing has always been around, and since the sharks have been on the planet. Why is it a problem now for you? You cant catch what isnt there. Now im not saying this is true, but how would you know and how would i but, take this into consideration, It could be a chance that a shark fisherman has saved someones life by intercepting a shark on its path to potentially attack someone, but intercepted a bait got pulled ashore and put back in the water and got out of the area asap or someone kept the potential man eater. I cant say that is true but it could be?Whats the difference between someone sitting 500m off shore going for sharks and someone sitting on the beach going for them? Might aswell just ban everything while your at it. Im also sure if it gets banned it will help assist in destorying local tackleshops. Its not like we can go off outer harbour and catch tuna and marlin. So might aswell set fire to the big game gear or send it interstate.Thanks.

Amazing! 11 pages and going... although everyone is and has put up good arguments over the pros and cons of shark fishing on metro jetties and the beurocrats will in the end - have their way one way or the other,I'm going to dumb it down a bit and although some might not agree - and thats your choice - give you one mans opinion...1. The old fella that took it upon himself to use his age and "local-ness" to abuse the shark fisherman for fishing on "his jetty"???? - broke the law.......If you are angry about life for whatever reason - see a therapist! dont take it out on others....If you approach anyone - abuse them - touch their personal property - and threaten?? That is breaking the law.... can just imagine what would have happened if the tables were turned and the sharko did that to the old man! Anyway - the story goes the "local" police knew the old man and so decided to "believe" and take his side and overlook what happened? why? Because he is old???? frail??? a respected member of the community??? (again my opinion sounds like the police need to go back to police school and re-learn the rules)....2. Bronze whaler shark - diet - fish, squid, offal... White pointer shark - diet - seals, dolphins, fish, other sharks, whales, offal...Fact: In the fiji islands shark fisherman use "rattles" to lure sharks (a stick with coconut shells cut in half and piled on top of eachother) then sort of "shuck shucked" in the water and it brings them to the boat - sounds like a fish thrashing or a (SWIMMER splashing) sends them crazy....The point here is that the sharks will first be lured to the commotion in the water by the swimmers - they will "feel" the vibrations and come in for a look....(that is what a shark does).....BUT
