  1. very happy with my Gerber Gator, holds an edge well. Has a sharpener built into the sheath for touch ups between proper sharpening and fairly cheap on ebay.
  2. Yep, another one using Decoy Seargant N Jigging Hooks.Have used them for a couple of years now, very happy.
  3. hence two options newtontoney.as it is waxwings are $20 at most stores i believe.
  4. What are you fishing for?If your fishing for salmon either save the cash and just go normal chromies, or/ spend an extra $2 per lure on Duel Adagios.
  5. If youd seen some of the gear floating around in the onk that I have, and even just smelt the water in some areas, you definitely wouldnt eat anything from there...In saying that though, there is a big difference between resident fish from then old noarlunga area versus some of the bread n butter fish [whiting, gar, tommies, salmon] up at the mouth and southport SLSC where it is still tidal as well, but actually gets a proper flushing.
  6. Ive got a few different ones on different reels, but they are generally a mix of TD Sensor in 8lb and Sunline Super PE in 6lb.Leaders - not too fussy personally about the various flouros out there. I like the Nitlon gear though, knots well, holds up to rough stuff well and no memory.
  7. spent a couple of nights in port hughesbag limits of squid at moontaand a lonely snapper at wallaroo on a slick rig
  8. Loyd Ellis & Sons Butcher, in Coles shopping centre at McLaren Vale do the lot.Meat of your choice on the spit, plus rotisserie hire.
  9. Transams are really awesome lures but it depends on what your doing.Casting to schooled up salmon, you'll catch fish whether you've spent $30 a pop for a transam or $5-10 a pop for a chromie. However you'll probably get better distance from the chromie.I'd be more inclined to use the transams for mulloway or freshwater cod/callop jigging.
  10. Really dependant on situation, but heres a generic top 3;Jackall Chubby [any transparent colour in clear water, metallic in dirty water]EcoGear SX40 [same colours as chubby]Squidgy Wrigglers, varying size and colours.
  11. I've been using the 60s. I like the orangey colour, but a lot of the transperant ones have worked for me.Ive generally been targeting water around the 1ft, to max 2ft mark. Bit of trial and error based on the day, shallower seems to be better [not ridiculously shallow though].Also dont get me wrong. All of the lures listed by brenton work extremely well, ive got plenty of bassday, zipbait, imakatsu, megabass, etc... but atomics seem to work really well for the amount they cost.
  12. Quality for money i would go the atomic k9 walkers. Caught plenty of salmon and whiting on those lately.Bassday Sugapens are also good but you can get two atomics for every one bassday.
  13. tried to delete my comment... can't
  14. My understanding is that it was specifically targeted to gather samples for investigation into radiation levels, etc.
  15. Rod looks good for salmon lure casting. But based on the specs you will risk damage to your gear running 50g lures and 10kg braid. The rod is rated for max 30g lures [usually a bit of give in this but the risk is that the tip wont load up properly during casting and could snap or compromise casting distance] and 6-8kh line, once again running 10kg line risks damage to the rod should you try to exert in excess of 8kg of pressure.Otherwise looks like a good rod, would be a good lure casting combo with a reel somewhere in the 2500 - 3000 size bracket, and loaded with about 15lb braid. Good to cast
  16. If using an external mic, get a 'dead cat' for it.Its a sock shape, made out of artificial fur that slips over to block out wind noise.
  17. Had plenty of squid come up and attack 5 & 7" jerk shads so id expect it to work well.Use of scents is common for those that are a bit full on with there 'eging'.
  18. I currently use a certate 2500r on a 7ft 3-5kg stick as a light surf setup, but also find the amount of line im retrieving per crank to be a bit of an issue. It works, but its tiring.Ive been toying with the idea of a Saltist Spin 4500, maybe something worth looking at. Only issue i see is weight for the combo. My other thought has been a stradic ci4 4000 to keep weight down. Double nicely as a combo for snapper plastics work.
  19. Nice size salmon will launch itself and the lure out of the water.Another good option is the Rapala sub surface xraps, but there a tad pricey at $23 each.Atomic K9s would be the most economical and i think they have a fairly good range down at BCF noarlunga. As with the chromies, it doesnt hurt to change trebles over to singles.
  20. Big surface walkers are better than poppers.Look for a lure with more of a 'walk the dog action'/ie;ZipBait IronyJackall MoccasinAtomic K9 BulldogSeem to work better as they slash across the surface than bug cup faced poppers.Nothing like seeing the big green/brown backs coming up behind it then smashin it.
  21. Fair enough. Might be worth keeping an eye on Bream Master though if your not against second hand.
  22. A piece of advice, dont get a bag with dozens of small pockets and sections. You want a bag with two large compartments and a drink bottle holder.Plastics, leaders, scissors, etc in the front smaller section, and enough room for at least two big planos for lures and terminals in the bigger section. With a bag full of smaller sections youll just end up being frustrated that nothing fits.
