Take care on the roads and bring on the mulloway Saturday morning.Tight lines all!

finally figured out how to embed.@urhf. depends, most are hd these days, you just have to decide on how you want to store the footage, ie. avchd or sd card, internal, dv tape.. the list goes on, all have pros and cons.im getting a gopro hd hat cam shortly, films in 1080p and is slightly bigger than a pack of matches. their like 360$. cheapest hd camera around for sure.

Gee, from the sounds of it, there's a few people here who have NEVER fished anywhere other than South Australia.I wonder how many Territorians scowl when they see SA numberplates on trailers at boatramps around the Top End.

Tako, with respect, please consider...Are you referring to the Vics who come over here to spend their hard-earned Victorian shekels in SA regional communities on food, bait and accommodation? Are you referring to the Vics who would be outnumbered by SA boats 10 to 1 (dozens to one?)Are you referring to the Vics who do not have an opportunity (unlike locals) to hammer the SA snapper population every second or third weekend to bag limit (if they choose to do so) 11 months of the year launching out of Metro, Broughton, Stansbury, Whyalla etc?

From a business point of view I can tell you these guys from over the border that are here to fish the snapper opening boost the economy of a small country town. They don't mine leaving their money in the towns. Petrol, food, accommodation, pubs and what they leave at the local bait & tackle shop is great.

TK the difference between an overhead rod & that set up for a spinning reel is the position of the backbone or spine of the rod. EVERY rod has at least one spine, some have many but ONE is ALWAYS dominant over the others. This spine is, well should be, at the top of the rod when it is fully loaded. In the case of it being built to accommodate an over head reel. The guides will be placed on top of this spine & depending on the size of the intended reel will be of a smaller diameter to that of a spinning reel set up. There may also be be more of them so as to stop the line touching or worse crossing the loaded blank / rod.In a spinning reel set up, there are generally less guides, their diameter is generally higher to accomodate the wider spool of a spinning reel, and they are placed beneath the spine. I would also use higher mounted frames for this style of rodIf the guides are not placed along the spine of the rod, it will want to twist when loaded. I dont know for sure, but they tell me u can find almost anything on u tube so I would assume that somewhere there, there is a video that shows what the blank does when its loaded up without the back bone being in the correct position.

howdy ussr, both the reels mentioned are awesome in their own right, ideal choice will depend on what type of fishing you do and what jobs you want them to perform.if you are going to fish 50lb braid you might want to checkout the 4500 size as is alot easier to handle and still offers a 10 kg drag.gear ratios will come into it aswell, will you be jigging for kings, sambos, bait fishing for groper, livebaiting,or poppering for gts? your main application use for the reel will have an ideal model which will suit you better.i am a big saltiga fan but both these reels will give you good service.choose wisely and talk to the guys in the reputable tackle shops and have a play with all of the reels to see what feels best.cheers and goodluck.

Hey all,Saturday the 20th of nov, a day to remember.I and my son went out in my boat,14 ft stacer, mostly just to chill, life had been a little rough of late, and maybe get a few salmon and a feed of crabs.First we tried a creek runoff as the tide was outgoing, nothing but shitties, time to shift and get settled for a cuppa for smoko, we didnt get out early and werent to fussed about the tides either, just a nice day on the water. We moved and anchored just outside of one of the new channel markers popping up everywhere up here, in went the berley and out came the thermos. After a cuppa a little friendly competion with my boy on the salmon with lures, we had bought each other an ugly stik baitcaster for christmas as we both wanted to try more of this sort of fishing, a few salmon came in the boat and then i got a nice tommy on a metal slice, ever the optomist i put it on the big rod as a livie an sat for a smoke. The gar dissapeared from the berley trail and my livie was super excited, just as i said to my son "get ready" my rod went off, i grabbed it and hit the lever drag to strike, well it only slowed a little and i was worried about poles etc, Shaun had the anchor up, ready to start the moter but luck had the fish and us going for open water so i put more drag on and well maybe that was a mistake, kingy must have realised something wasnt right and had a big run, both arms locked on the rod, the rod on the side of the boat with the tip in the water, my left arm was burning already, lift and a couple of winds and off kingy would go again, this went on for a bit, sweat was pouring off me, my arms were burning, and i was starting to wonder who would win, about then it went deep just bursts now and then it went in wide circles under us, Shaun lifted the moter and i started to gain some line back. Then we saw colour, and i realised the size of the thing, and well we swore! and i paniced, as the fished arced wide i knew it would see the boat and run again, Shaun had the gaff ready, and gaffed just as it was about to go off again, up she came in a rush of pure adrenalin Shaun pulled it into the boat.Athough we tried, we didnt get another run and my son missed out, next time aye, at the tackle shop it weighed 54 kilos and was 115cms long.

Gday.I started this rod a while agohttp://www.strikehook.com/forum/35-bait-a-tackle/112797-3rd-and-4th-home-build-attemptsand have finally made to progress.I've decided that it's going to be a gift for a dear friend who has a degenerative nerve disease (similar to MS). He probably won't even use the thing but if he does, it certainly won't see much abuse. As a result - and after seeing some photos elsewhere - I've decided to go a bit "outside the square" with some of the finishing. The rod is a 7' 2-3kg Samurai with more than a couple of hours worth of work in it. One more coat of clear epoxy and she's all done.Cheers. Thanks for reading.(and as always, any suggestions/tips/opinions/criticisms/etc are more than welcome)When I get a spare minute I'll try to get another photo in of the whole rod.

After my Victor trip got cancelled for this weekend. I went for a flick along two of my favorite haunts at the lake yesterday. While me being me I should have used sinking line and varied my flies .Of course I left the floating line on and went with my popper flies. While I got zero fish .I did get a fair few mini Bream to perform aerobatics while trying to eat something they couldn't grab. Jumping bream always gets my heart a ticking.but its better if they take the fly.Tracking along these two beaches .I was trailing a school of something all I can tell u is they were small and thin (pencil garfish not certain or white bait ).And 3 or 4 loved to hit my moving popper but they were very very small.Of course I was trailing this school in the hopes that something bigger was trailing them!!!I had a little chat with Samboman most of the time his sounder was a beeping .And I was scaring the bigger bream as I waded past them!!!So guys it was great to be back and casting a fly .Probably better that I'm doing that after a winter free of fly fishing on a day when the bigger fish weren't quite ready to jump out the water .Big tip for those of us suffering from diabetes take your water bottle or end up dehydrated again like me lolCheersguysPsi did scare the odd larger fish I could see their wake near the fly when I moved it at the wrong time while having a homer simpson moment doh

G'day guys,As the weather has finally cracked and produced a nice morning, a day off work was planned and some Mulloway fishing was on the agenda. I haven't fished for these since last summer so it was good to pull out the 7wt and go and chuck around a few of my prawn flies. It's good to see they can still pull fish and it also proved to me that last year wasn't just a fluke. Only got one and he went 75cm and swum free at the end of his experience . Christened the Tibor too .Cheers Darren
