Just tried this out with a bit of Gummy & prawns. Thoroughly recommended
The only changes i made were adding a squeeze of fresh Lemon juice to the sauce & using fresh spinach.

Murphysegg got a reaction from Borryking in clip down pulley rig
Hahaha........My parents are Geordies so i must be more atuned to the accent
I liked the look of the Pulley Rig for it's casting ability & also the way the fish would pull the sinker up clear around the central pivot point upon hookup.
I tried this rig last year down Salties but didn't notice much gain in casting distance but that would have been more due to my lack of casting technique, so i would assume a proficient surf caster would benefit with this rig.
I didn't have any hookups whilst using it & switched over to a traditional paternoster for the remaining w/end, however i think i'll try it again if ever i chance upon a hot bite.

Murphysegg got a reaction from seagypsy in Smoked Tuna
Cheers Seagypsy. I tried this recipe out at the w/end with some tuna belly & the results were A1.
My previous attempts with other fish have been a bit hit or miss, but this ones a winner. Still tastes great cold.

Murphysegg reacted to seagypsy in Smoked Tuna
Smoked some tuna today. Here's my simple recipe. Tastes good with a cold beer.
1/2 cup of salt
1/2 cup of brown sugar
2 teaspoons of dried oregano
Squirt of soy sauce
Dash or Chilli powder
2 litres of water approx
Tuna as much or as little as you want. Adjust ingredients accordingly.
METHOD:
Place sugar, salt, oregano, soy and Chilli into a container and dissolve with hot water. Once dissolved add enough cool water to cover tuna. Add tuna to brine solution and refrigerate for 5 hours. Once 5 hours is up smoke it.

Murphysegg got a reaction from Jack. in Hindmarsh Island. worth taking a tinny? what's the Land Based Options like??
Ditto to taking the tinny. A couple of us fished Sugars from the Yaks. Not sure if we caught the backend of a Dodge, but the tidal run was nothing to be concerned with.As Waxxy says, heaps of Schoolies & Mullet. Nip down Goolwa beach first to get your cockles & your set. Cockles are thick. Got my quota in less than 20mins.

Murphysegg got a reaction from Ranger in Garfish Rollmops?
Well 1 week on & i said i'd let you know how i go. Last week i filletted 8 Gar, sprinkled them with cracked black pepper & sea salt. Rolled them up & placed them in a jar. Covered with white vinegar, i had no onion in the house, so placed some large lemon pieces in the space left & popped them in the fridge.1 week passed & tonight i tried them on some ryvita with some cream cheese.....Simple & delicious Can't wait to get out & snare a few more mini marlin & experiment with different vinigers & additives. Maybe Capers, chillis, onion.Thoroughly recommend anyone to give it a go. Please post up your concoctions

Cheers. I decided to keep it simple & baked it whole with a slice of lemon & S&P. Turned out beutifully. A lovely delicate flavour & texture & no wasted meat.
