  1. Done a tuna trip the other month, we caught all the fish on rapala xraps, both the 15ft and 20ft worked, used the pillie and mackeral types.Tried several different skirts over the weekend but they didnt want to play with the skirts.A few weeks later and they were hitting the skirts, just a bit of trial and error and depends how active the fish are.Im still new in the tuna fishing front only done a few trips and have succeeded both trips.

  2. Fins is ok, I use it on my light tackle, used it for the last 12mths, hasnt twisted up yet, caught plenty of fish with it to B) I dont like braid, Wont be buying it again in a hurry, tangles up way to easy, cuts and burns ya fingers messy crap, Thats my opinionRather just use a good quality old mono line, used it for the last 30yrs so why change something good

  3. I normally try the st kilda breakwater on the way out for some ST's or then we try trolling all around the cutting area, depending on the tide height normally catch heaps of ST's in this area, high tide, quite easy to bag out but they are all around the 28cm size, then we venture up to the northern breakwater around O/H, the fish are always around this area normally, Use to catch allot of St's opposite the snowdens boat ramp on the corner where the markets are. Seen quite allot of decent sized ones in the creeks last trip out. Will see how we go tomoro :fishing: as its been a while now

  4. Excellent Video DT!Can I ask what your preffered form of fishing is when you see these schools?Poppers' date=' Trolling or Cubing etc? Just wanting to know yet to catch one bu the Tuna is an excellent species!TT[/quote']I cant answer this question to well as i havnt really targeted the tuna enough, This was only my second time out chasing them.Maybe someone else can answer this better.Last time was on a charter at pt mac and when the fish were busting up they were taking anything that went past them, we got them on skirts and deep diver lures. This trip they didnt want any of our lures, playing hard to catch :( although some poppers and casting lures may have helped if we had some on the boat.Didnt try cubing them up, may have worked but didnt help when we didnt have any either.Something to try next year
  5. Must get pretty exciting when you find schools like that' date=' :woohoo: Did you guys get any other footage B)[/quote']I was pretty pumped up when ya see fish jumping out the water like that, dont get to see that to often :) Only other footage ive got is what you have seen, my phone was chewing up the battery heaps quick due to having no phone signal :(
  6. I pulled a few snapper cutlets out of the freezer to cook up but then when they defrosted i was put off by the smell of snapper, decided i would smoke them instead as i havnt used the smoker for this year.Made up a quick brine solution, approx 3 heaped tablespoons of salt, maybe a tad more, about the same of brown sugar and 500mls water.Brined them overnight although 2-3hrs is plenty.Next day patted them dry with paper towel and into the drying rack for a few more hours.Cooked them for a further 20mins with some redgum chips and they tasted sensational.Nice and juicey and moist, They didnt last long. They were that nice that the next day i pulled out another 2 bags of snapper fillets and smoked them up to.I found a good use for the big reds as the smaller ones normally taste good on their own.
