I run 10lb braid whem flicking lures at the lake and had plenty of problems with wind knots and line twist.Run a small swivel with about 1m of flurocarbon (or other line) to your jig. Can almost guarantee you wont have any more problems

I met one of the Mully "regulars" who now fishes lures because he says using livies "is too easy" (half his luck!),anyway,he says use mono as a main line coz you get less tangles when live bait fishing...I've heard this now from a few of the regulars down there

I find it more difficult to catch bream than mullys in the lake now I'm not kidding either. just find the baitfish schools and lob out your livie or lures and ones bound to hit it. like king monkey said mono for live baiting is a good choice a lot less tangles. since switching from braid back to mono i've hooked up a lot more then with braid and lost fewer fish, 8-15lb mono is plenty. a schoolie from tonight taken on an unweighted pillie cube intended for bream good fun on a 500 sienna and 3lb braid.

Eagle rays. Pretty amazing and exciting watching them go side to side and launching out of the water a few feet. But salmon on light gear is also fun! Actully I like catching them all

Hi Jack Black. Im new to the forum. Sounds like you got an exciting trip there man!If I were you.. I'd check out Exmouth. Maybe start by getting in touch with the Exmouth Game Fishing Club; http://www.egfc.com.au/They should be able to guide you on charters etc.I haven't been there but, from the looks of the photos and articles, definitely on my list.

Any safe ledge at the top of the Bight, that drops into deeper water would be worth a fish.Could catch anything. Just make sure you watch swell for a good 20-30 minutes before you venture to your spot.

From Perth, I would suggest looking at Rottnest Island as the samsons over there are pretty large.

Someone said something about artificial turf??? At Adelaide Uni Hockey club (west beach) they replaced their artificial turf and in the carpark sits, literally tonnes of artificial turf from the removed pitch. Just roll down there and grab some, pretty sure its just waiting to be dumped/taken. If need be I can ask just to make sure. I'll see if I can take a photo tomorrow.

I use a 10'6" rod, 50lb main line. Keep in mind I don't fish the beaches along the Coorong very often. Fishing Yorkes or the South East with a live bait, 2 snelled 4/0 to 8/0 hooks. The ring a single dropper paternoster similar to the image below. using 60-80lb trace line. Don't worry about all the poxy beads and stuff shown in the image. from the swivel to the sinker is 3-4 foot, with the loop about 1 foot from the top (swivel). I use a Dropper Loop knot to hang the trave with the hooks from my rig. The hooks are suspended on 15-20 inch of line.I pin the livie through the upper and lower jaw, then another one near the dorsal fin. similar to the bottom left image, depending on the species. different species respond to different pinning.

+1 on the dropper loop, I also use it on all my surf setups. Swivels are good though when there's decent surf

A tried an tested rig which has produced many fish from the surf. If your chasing surf mullies, I might shorten the leader to the hook to lift the live off of the surf floor. I would probably also use two hooks due to the force when casting could pull a single hook. Do forget you can also use fresh dead bait and cut out the back section to get the fillets flapping in the surf. Imitates a live bai quite well

Road tires go well on sand as they don't dig in as much. Seen many people bogged using mud chuckers in the sand

Just sit in low range 3rd gear (manual) and putt through. I'd let my tires down lower for heavy sand, say to 15psi. It'll motor through, I've been chassis deep and still motor through. Don't stop anywhere that looks soft. If you get stuck, reverse before you dig in. You can get out of 90% of bogs that way. You'll learn what your vehicle is capable of and become more confident. I even pulled people out that were chassis deep in the soft stuff, had my fair share of sketchy moments but always carried the shovel and recovery gear just in case

I'll be keen to get one of each - except the hat cos I don't think it'll fit over my hair. Just an idea, what about a s&h pack, x amount of dollars and in that pack you get stickers, hoodie, shirt and hats. By the sounds of it people are keen for any s&h merch (me included). In regards to handing over money, it sounds like a good excuse to meet at one of the many fine hospitality establishments throughout this city!

This has probably been a topic before but thought i'd ask where people source their bait and other goodies from. For me , lately I have been going to the fish factory on grand junction rd before I head out of town. They have whole mullet (primo surf mully bait) for about $9.00 a kilo, pilchards for about $7 a kilo and often they have bags of fish heads or whole tommies and shitties for $4.The best thing is they have 20kg bags of shaved ice for $6 which is absolutely perfect for a trip away as the ice will stay as a block for over 5 days with a good esky.Did also read something about 25kg of salmon (for bait only) $75 I think, but that i'm yet to confirm. Now let it be known I dont work for the company and I am no way affiliated or even know anyone that works there (if I did I'd be getting cheaper prices ) just thought that they had some good options for bait and I'd share the info. Share If you have any top joints to pick up good quality/ cheap bait.

i use rock crabs for bait when targetting blue groper from the rocks. i find a few legs are enough of a bait for these fellas. but for mullys etc.. id probably say half a crab split down the middle. hook out the side of a leg. use rubber bands to secure the bait to the hook. would be difficult to not smash the crab too much when casting.for groper im fishing close to where i stand and just tossing the baits out unweighted.. different story surf casting..
