Sam if you are going to fish for fish that may actually pull some line off the reel then make sure you are winding with your dominant hand. So if your right handed swap over the one way bearing and strip all the line off and then put it back on so you are retrieving right handed. If you are fishing for fish that don't take line (like small trout) then you will get away with having it as a left hand winding reel. It's very frustrating trying to wind fast with a fish swimming at you if you are winding back the line with the non dominant hand.Just my 2 cents worth Cheers Dazz

They look good 1fish and those barbless Knapek hooks are very nice hooks to use aswell.Tony I hate to do this but I disagree with you about the bead being against the eye generally.I actually tie alot of my nymphs with a flash back on them and that is tied in over the top of the bead and tied in at the head. All it is is a kind of sparkly back on the fly. It also gives the nymph a slightly different posture on the drift too. Mind you I do tie a hell of alot with the bead against the eye but there is no problem either way.Cheers Dazz

No mate these are used to catch Atlantic Salmon and are based on patterns that are a couple of hundred years old. I only tie these for relaxation and to frame as gifts for mates e.t.cOh and of course to go on the walls of my fishing room. The feather you think is a lace wing is actually a Golden Pheasant Crest feather and is used to just drape over the top of the main wing to form a kind of halo effect.I hope that explains it.Cheers Dazz

Yes mate they are eyes made by dipping flurocarbon line into epoxy.I reckon eyes are the key to flies and lures so all the flies I tie have some sort of eye on them.Cheers Dazz

The key to working out any fish is persistance and then retain what you learnt along the way. Also keeping a fishing diary has been known to help aswell.Cheers Darren

I have to watch that little Kiwi sheep shagger he's always rummaging through my flyboxes. I just give him the ones with poo on them so he doesn't catch anything with them The Snapper like them aswell but I haven't scored one over 3kgs with them yet but I'll keep trying.Cheers Darren

Good topic Jack,I don't use bait or lures for my Mullies. I prefer to use the flyrod as I find I can mimic the bait that mullies feed on so much better. It also helps to have some of my prawn flies handy too :laugh:The proof The weapon Cheers Dazz

G'day guys,Decided to go swim some prawns this morning and had a reasonable time of it. Fished the 5wt and landed 6 Bream for my efforts. The best was the last and he measured 38cms so I was quite happy. The easterly wind was a pain but atleast the day ended on a happy note. The fly used was my Dubbing brush Prawn and I must say it goes very well but I'm going to tie some with a small bead on the rear or a tiny bit of lead in future so they go down a bit faster. The best part of the morning was sight casting to the 38cm Breambo and watching the EAT, very cool .Here's a couple of pics .Cheers Darren38cm Black Bream32cm Black BreamHungry little bugger

I think they may add too much weight to lures and might through them out of whack, especially smaller ones that we use for bream e.t.c.The ideas not bad as it might stop fish throwing the lure so easily if the hook can turn. Just my thoughts.Cheers Darren

Hi guys,My video was taken on my Olympus 1030 SW camera so you don't need a mega buck outfit if you just want happy snaps. I use a proper video camera for the serious stuff but the Olympus is good enough for the boat and kayak.Cheers Darren

G'day guys,Went out last evening and finally cracked my Snapper on fly hoo doo.Although this wasn't a huge fish, it was nice to finally score a half decent little Red, about 7lb on fly. I got smoked twice by what were quite good fish but all that does is keep you going back for more. Hopefully the summer wind is kind to us this year and I'll be able to get some more time on the water. Here's a couple of pics. We finished with 8 fish between myself and my mate but we were having too much fun to take alot of pics :up .Cheers Darren.

Rangfish,The hooks I use are Mustad S71S SS in size 8 ,6 ,4, 2 and for the mullies SIZE 1 and 1/0.The smaller sizes are my bream selection and I have tied them on the same hooks in size 3/0 and 4/0 for Peter Morse to throw at Barra .You may have trouble getting these in Stainless hooks now as they have been replaced with Mustad S71SZ which are a plated hook but just as good. Give them a try. Hope this helps.Cheers Darren
