wishing2Bfishing got a reaction from piratepom in fish id
Blue groper are from the same family as these wrasse, they also do the same thing as piratepom described with the male being electric blue and the females brown, take the male away and a female takes his place. nature is amazing

wishing2Bfishing got a reaction from 4THALOVE in Snapper bumps...
yea mine had a whole cuttlefish in its guts with just one bite mark in it. going a bit off topic but i always check my snappers guts, i havent personally found anything too weird but heard of some weird things, Rocknev reckons his biggest from the rocks had a pufferfish in it!once i was using cubed pillies as burley and one of my fish had basically the whole block in its guts, im surprised it took my bait, it was the fullest snapper i have caught!

that would have been one ugly snapper hey 4THA? my biggest is my avatar pic, 11.5kg, that was more of a long fish, it had a big head but not a massive, ugly bump. maybe i need to catch a bigger fish and see a big bump first hand.

My biggest snapper so far was 14.5kg and the lips were like the bottom pic but the knob on the head was actually touching the lips and had a gap in between I was told the lumps were absiss from hitting reef etc. but as I have just read its just bone growth I wish I had a pic of it show,Peter the old shop owner from nth haven ( before tackle & tucker) may have a pic of it still Cheers 4THA -

Structure is only generally important during the day when the fish are ( at home ). At night they're wide spread looking for a feed and generally have left their structure. Simple really when you think about it. Anyone can berley up for snapper but many do it incorrectly, me included!!! and thus reduce their chances. ( VERY IMPORTANT ). Think of what the snapper feed on and you can fish anywhere for them. Eg, crabs, scallops, mussels etc.

The best Chance with lures is to "match the hatch" so to me any worm, shrimp, crab/yabbie pattern lure, especially if there hold up around rockwalls and the flats...

Try Gulp 2" Shrimp in Peppered Prawn and Ecogear Bream Prawn in Olive colour. For lures try Jackall Chubbies, Ecogear SX40's and Daiwa Double Clutches.

If the Bream are hungry they will chomp anything. I'd agree the marina would have to be your best bet for Bream. I seem to catch alot of bream as bycatch when I'm using cockles for whiting, and I've never caught a Bream on any lure, plastic or hardbody, despite months of trying and probably over 100 bucks spent on them. So unless you know how to use lures I wouldn't bother!

Cheers brenton, u reckon that bait or lures would be the go for bream? as i am not an eperienced lure fisherman i am thinking bait, i have heard that small crabs and shrimp are the best, unweighted or on a small ball sinker? "wishing2bfishing wrote"I think you need to get a ride out with one of the tournoment bream lads, like myself bream on lures or flies for that matter, on most days kills the bait bridgade.worked correctly a soft plastic or hardbody looks alive & with the graphite rods, braidline & the right leader material. A bit of practice & you will be hooked! (pun intended)

Never specifically targeted bream at edithburgh, but have seen some thumpers swimming around the boat ramp pontoons so they must be some around there. I do pretty well on salmon throwing metal slugs in the 20-30g range down at sultana point just down the road. But you need a fairly low tide to get right out on the sand bar throwing them into the shipping channel, they patrol up and down there. I'll be down there all weekend this weekend too.

Just a quick write up on what Rocknev (aka Nev) can do when he works with metal...during the snapper comp the bracket that my chair sits on was broken when i hit a wave a bit quick, the person sitting in it went flying down to the back of the boat. broke 3 of the four arms on the bracket.went to the boat shop to see about getting a new one, the boat is a mid 80's Haines Hunter so i wasnt expecting much and i was right, they didnt even have the same sized hole for the pole that i needed. wondering what i could do i rang my mate Nev who is a boilermaker and asked what he could do. he said bring it round, i'll have a squiz. did that last night and he said it was a shitty alloy that would be difficult to fix. leave it with me he said.got a call today saying he had made a new one and to come round and pick it up. i did so and was stoked with the result, exactly the same but made from 6mm stainless steel. this one wont be breaking in a hurry!Cheers Nev, ur a legend!!!
