Knackers reacted to westoz in Where to live
Hi Knackers
My last trip over SA was to Coffins and tried to launch from farm beach but without a tractor so we had no chance so we launched from town ramp. This added a bit more time but we bagged out on our tuna and a few other fish so all good but the missus didn't like it there and said no to living there. I'm looking at house's in Lincoln but she has her head set on one of the old bungalow's and finding the one she wants for the cash we have is problematic in both areas. I have a plus with Lincoln in a very good mate is going to retire there in a few more years so I just have to find the right house.😁

Lincoln is probably the place for you. 45 min flight to Adelaide. More hustle and bustle than any of the Yorkes towns and also the other Eyre towns day to day for the Missus. My wife does FIFO from here and also works from home remote. We are forty minutes from Lincoln but it feels like a big small town. Lived the last three years in Darwin and miss nothing health, shopping or entertainment wise. It is better here. Darwin 100,000, Lincoln 16,000. Live in Lincoln, Coffins or Tumby Bay. Better than those overrun by city slicker YP Towns. 😁

Any reason you have to be close to Adelaide?
I'd suggest Eyre Peninsula as well. I lived at Port Vic as a kid but living down here is even better. The fishing is better, house prices reasonable compared to Yorkes.

Small ones for fantastic fresh snapper bait . Big ones for the smoker
They are one of the nicest eating smoked fish.
They do not freezer well for bait but ok for burley

Hey! That's my favourite colour/pattern as well. The next would be the humble Neptune brand ones in lime green. Catch heaps of squid on these.

Good luck on Monday Noz. Not too many being caught down there this morning.
The more I squid fish the less I believe colour make a difference. My go to at the moment recently caught squid at night, in the middle of a sunny day, in murky as water and in crystal clear water. So I'm not sure those colour charts for certain colours at certain times on bright/dull days are not worth a crock of shit. Just my humble opinion.😉
As said before get the jig down into the zone the Squid should be lurking is probably the most important factor.
Emeraldas Nude Mango Shrimp, my go to ATM, pulling them out this morning.😉

Knackers got a reaction from SaltyFlyer in Recycling a lead acid battery for sinkers, is it worth it ???
The lead in old batteries will mostly be in the form of lead oxide and lead suphates. I think you have to melt it with carbon or something to extract pure lead suitable for sinkers. Plus there is lead sludge in there as well. There is a bit on the web about this and the consensus is it is not worth it.
A mate of mine, much older than me, and a very long time ago, found a very large number (100+) of old batteries that had been dumped illegally out in the scrub. They thought of sinkers or selling the lead so they poured all the acid out and restacked the batteries. Then, as you do in the '70s, they set fire to the pile to burn the plastic off. He reckoned there was bugger all lead left that had melted into pools.
Bi carb of soda will neutralise the acid.

Knackers got a reaction from Meppstas in Greasing bearings on new reels
Just picked up a new 200 calcutta. Because I couldn't tie a decent knot to the tiny spool I ended up pulling the spool out. These reels have non shielded bearings and these ones appeared to be only slighty oiled. As I will be using the reel in my very wet boat I gave them a dab a grease. Found the same on my TLDs and Tyrnos. The TLDs have frozen up once each but cheap to rebuild.

Im refering to if you are wanting to use the daiwa custom project spools or rcs spools you cant use them on the new range of LT reels as they aren't compatible as i am aware. I could be wrong but just what i heard. Those custom project spools and rcs spools are only compatible with real 4 reels. That's all i was getting at. Some people like spare spools. So was more of a heads up really.

Knackers got a reaction from gregtech in Odd find at Largs beach
On scuba or hookah tow a diver behind the boat on a ski rope at idle. If the water is clear the scallops usually sit on the silty banks that run between white sand holes or runs. Generally speaking you won't find them where there is a heap of tape weed. Have a dive around semaphore reef. They are around the tyre reef as well but that from memory is 50 - 60 foot deep.
Once you find a patch you'll be able to recognise the bottom they prefer.

Pick quite a few of them up scallop diving all the way from Brighton to Outer Harbour.

Knackers reacted to gregtech in Top Shot mono
It's the leader mono (50m spools). The "plus" version is a bit "stiffer" especially above 24kg but still ties perfect knots. Still better than any fluro Iv'e used and cheaper.

We have used Jinkai for years in various strains and love it. Supple as and ties great knots. I tie 15kg braid to 20kg Jinkai mono with an improved albright without doubling the braid and have never had an issue. I run up to 4 rod lengths of mono and the memory is acceptable.
Cheers,
Greg.
