Yesterday, baddams (James), Fishingmad (Joshua) and I headed to the onkaparinga river. James managed to land 2 tiny mulloway (20 and 24cm) in the first hour or so then it was all quiet.
We moved back and forth without landing any fish, we had heaps of tiny bites but no hookups. Then we moved back to the original spot and landed 2 more bream. Near the end of the day, we bumped into something different. The video says it all. -
West lakes is full of them! We'd usually get black bream but sometimes get small Yellowfin Bream. I've always wondered if they were

It's pretty challenging to get a YFW on lure at semaphore. But I think bream fishing in west lakes is the go. Got a 31cm one on a GULP 2" sandworm Nereis yesterday.

How's it going Alex, have you managed to crack it yet?
Not yet Kayak Noob, I haven't been trying lately. I'm sure I will crack the 40's soon

Hey boys. Myself and a mate went there the other week and bagged out on gar 30+ cm's. Couple burley pellets had them going like crazy. Also saw some absolutely monsterous sweep.
Havent had any luck with the snapper or dog sharks though? Any tips lads?
Cheers
howie
Great work! Sounds like you caught a nice feed, we haven't caught proper snapper or dog sharks before so we don't know much The snapper was just a surprise! that was the most unusual thing we saw that day. Smashing bread off the surface!

Unbelievable, I've been to garden island and the squadron there, same as you twice in the last two weeks, same baits, for less than dozen undersize gar and 1 15/20cm bream.
You have undoubtedly the best luck of any fisherman I know.
Damn bad luck Kayak Noob... This was a while ago though, better luck next time

G"day Alex,a good starting point is the northern breakwall, and fish in fairly close to the rocks,my brother got a nice legal there once and i have caught a schoolie there plus seen 2 others caught, but yeah not too far out as the fish hunt along the structure.
If you use lightly weighted whitebait other species around there are ST,Bream and some nice Snook at times.
cheers
Cheers guys, thanks Cal, been and gone to north haven and had a live st out for 4 hrs without a touch until a sea bird took it... Pretty disapointing lol

I'd be surprised if you don't get asked to contribute to SA Angler in the near future....that's top notch fishing and reporting. Best thing is you don't make it a secret where you catch them; if it's land based I don't see the harm in letting people know. There's plenty of fish for everyone
haha thanks, I would love to contribute to SA Angler! Lol

Geez, nice work.
Was pretty sure you couldnt fish the Yacht Squadron tho 'cause the missus' uncle has his yacht in there and needs an access pass to even get in the joint?
Unless you're going 'round the side where the channel exits the marina and that poxy excuse for a boat ramp is?
Lol yep, we were at the boat ramp near the entrance to the yacht squadron that's accessable for all public users. So it was legal to fish there.

Cheers mate, need somewhere easy to take my daughter and keep her interested, otherwise it's off chasing pelicans.
Haha be careful on the rocks though, not the best place to fall

Aha cheers guys, that would've been my chance for a 40cm bream but it happens... Can't wait to batter and deep fry the gar!

Headed to the yacht squadron yesterday with James and his mate. At the start, we didn't see a single fish besides some bream at the bottom. We sighted a few bluies and I snagged them on my lure. Later on, the garfish started to move in and we kept the burley going. This finally attracted some bigger ones, we used unweighted gents and got one cast after cast!!! They were on fire, it was so hectic I couldn't film most of it...
After about 2 hrs, they started to slow down and we ran out of gents. We used bread and got a few, James let his bread sink to the bottom and got some BIG bites! Finally something took his bait and ZZZZzzzzzzzz! He was onto something bigger! He pulled it up and it was a decent bream at 34cm! We started fishing for salmon trout afterwards with pilly cubes and caught many undersized ones... We caught a legal one amongst 3 undersized ones. The fights were great fun still
We moved on to target bream and burleied up lots with bread, we chucked our bread baits in and straight away we got some big bream bites. All of a sudden James' rod bends heaps and he strikes! It pilled out heaps of drag and then snapped... Seconds later, my rod did the same and it was the best bream fight of my life! Every second of the fight it was pulling out drag! James saw it when it went under some structure and you should've seen his face! IT WAS A MONSTER! It snagged me under some structure at the bottom and snapped me off.... James' said it was deffinately over 40cm and the fight was mad for me! I was silent for most of the time after I lost that bream.
On the good side we caught a nice bag with 80 gar, 7 st, 1 decent bream and 2 bluies. All land based out of the 3 of us!

I'll be heading to North Haven sometime this holidays and I was wondering if anyone has caught mullies in the marina? I know there has to be a few but just wondering if anyone has had luck with em? I'll be going for gar, st, squid and bream, I will be using live st in the marina for mullies!
I could just be the first one to find out? lol So far the mullies have gotten me hooked
Cheers.

Great work Alex.
Are those Strikehook caps as lucky as everyone is saying?
Might have to get one and retire my dirty stinky Rapala hat...LOL
haha feels a little different But so far I've caught a nice flatty on sp at henley, a nice feed of gar at outer harbour and my first mully!

I really hope to get a T.V. show! And S&H could maybe be a sponser?
Cheers reelfun, I'm still targeting a legal flatty on lure and a 40cm bream -
Finally got onto my first mully today at the onk! Had a great fish with Kuerschner and Fishingmad! I landed 2 nice schoolies, one at 53cm and the other at 67cm. Small one on half a pilly and big one on a live st! Love the fights and I think I'm hooked on mully fishing now
Thanks to Josh and Leigh for helping me out! Really appreciate it guys! -

Onk Breambos!
in General Fishing
Posted
Last week I fished with FishingMad (Joshua) at the onkaparinga river targeting bream on Zmans. We flicked around just below the train bridge and made our way down stream. Joshua landed the first fish which was 30cm. Quick photo and release, swam away nicely.
We found a nice drop off and Joshua gave me first cast which produced a nice healthy 31cm breambo! As usual, a quick photo and release.
We flicked and found some surface action in the distance, we went to check it out and there was a massive school of jumping mullet! We flicked our lures right next to them but they wouldn't touch the zman. After plenty of casts, Joshua hooked up to something decent! We thought he had hooked up to a mullet but it was a foul hooked bream! lol
This got us fired up so we kept casting into the mullet school as we thought the bream were hanging underneath them. All of a sudden I had a massive hit and I hooked up to what felt like a massive bream or mulloway!!! It just kept pulling line and wouldn't stop! I tried turning it's head but it was super strong. Slowly but steadily it came closer, We saw a big bullet shape and knew it was a massive jumping mullet. It was huge, we landed it and it measured 48cm!!!
It was kept for a family feed.
Later on, Joshua also hooked onto a slightly smaller mullet but it fell off at the bank All up, we had an awesome lure session in the onk, good times.
