kbnrs reacted to Dylbaa in need braid suggestions
My understanding is that backing is used 1) to fill the rest of the spool when there isn't enough braid to fill it and 2) to stop slippage of braid on the spool under heavy load, but if its only for bream/salmon trout/ whiting etc. then it probably wont slip regardless, if I want to completely fill a spool for say snapper/kings/ tuna, ill use a strip of tape around it so the braid has something to grip under a heavy load. Otherwise backing is used when a spool cant be fully filled with braid. Now days reels are coming out with a rubber type strip around the base of the spool so there is no need for backing, check out the new Penn spinfishers closely, they have it on their spools, so do the Pfleuger Crank models I think :)It doesn't so much protect it, just helps the braid hold tight under heavier drag settings, hope this helps?

Daiwa tournament is probably the best. I use tuf line but in the higher breaking strains. I have had had bad experience with Fins. Others may not have. And I fill the spool up and reverse it when required like the pirahna.

There is plenty of Braid out there. Just go with what quality you can afford, go visit your local tackle shop, talk to them, it's like buying shoes, 1000's of brands and styles, basically comes down to Fit, Form,Function, and most of all COST $$$$$$.Just get the best you can afford......

Power pro. Go to your tackle store like Tinker said and get them to do it . reasoning is that they can do the backing and there is no wastage.

Sunline Super PE or power pro. If you can stretch the budget Sunline Castaway is good.

Go to your local tackle shop and get them to spool up some 4 or 6lb Fins braid.I recommend getting them to do it because they can lay backing and ensure the line goes on at the right tension needed. This will stop air knots and birds nests, and other headaches.Getting backing put on means you won't have to fill the spool with braid, which will save you money.$40 should be enough.

Have caught Mulloway off the beach at Kingston Park. Middle of the day. October maybe 12 years ago.

I have heard of them being caught near the torrens outlet and off and near the west beach boat ramp. Also saw a topic on here once detailing similar.

I would Imagine Port Nourlunga to be in with a shot. River mouth down the beach and a fringing reef surrounded with baitfish.

i was snorkeling at port noarlunga last summer on the little reef about 15meters from shore and there were 2 1m+ mullies staring at me under a ledge so id say its a possibility to catch em there

One of my friends speared one under the Henley Jetty back in Dec 1973 (the day we finished our year 12 exams) As was said here, some big ones can be caught off the NH breakwater. One day I took my sons out there chasing salmon trout, there was a pile scales, the largest was a little bigger than a 20 cent piece, up on the rocks near the small beacon. Definitely mulloway scales!!

have caught tiddlers from grange and port noarlunga jettys on bait whilst trying to catch live bait to target them in the onkaparinga and west lakes. I did live bait for them at grange on this occasion and got spooled by a ray it put an end to my mulloway hunt in the lake that night.

Tell ur old man to get a boat man or make Shen take you out . No doubt someone would have gotten them at some stage off metro beaches and jetties, but nothing good and big besides sharks at the right time and rays come from metro jetties now. And the occasional snapper of glenelg and porties in the right conditions -
