    Boyington214 reacted to PJ151 in Media release - Metropolitan shark fishing restrictions now permanent
    I feel confident in saying that a ban on day time metropolitan shark fishing in unnecessary as well.Anyone who understands the marine environment off adelaide already knows that the sharks are there anyway.They're there for the sand crabs, snapper, tommies, garfish etc and an angler fishing say a salmon trout or mackeral out for sharks is not going to make any difference.Urban runoff, sewage, the torrens outlet etc all those sources of offal are much much more likely to attract a shark than a bloke fishing a salmon trout under a balloon.We all know that but unfortuantely some unneducated residents think they know better and are doing the right thing to protect their children by successfully lobbying for shark fishing to be banned.The Government sees it as an easy quick political fix when in reality the danger level to beach goers remains the same as it always has or possibly worse since white sharks become a protected species.Many people have lost touch with the natural environment and falsely believe that quick fixes like this will suddenly make the beaches safer.

    What a sack of crap!! Native title or not, the law is there for a reason. Not to have double standards depending on race! I'm over this stuff happening. If you're indigenous, the laws seem to not apply. If you're an illegal immigrant, not only do you get huge support (monetary and service-wise) but they also seem to be above a lot of laws. Then there are us. Whom ALL laws seem to apply every time. Fisheries laws are fisheries laws and SHOULD apply to all equally!! And it seems that they will cost us tax payers a lot more money! This is nothing but double standards and a sick joke for (on) us non-indigenous people!

    Boyington214 reacted to Des in Winter Yellow Fin Whiting Log
    Noting a few recent posts enquiring after Yellow Fin Whiting, I thought I would put up some general info regarding a species I have obsessed over for a while, along with a part log for this winter so far.Yellow Fin Whiting are available all year round.There are independent resident populations in the St Vincent Gulf, Spencer Gulf and in WA from Albany through to Shark Bay.The is no migration between populations.Yellow Fin Whiting follow the COLD WATER. At various times of the year you will find them in the part of the gulf that have their natural habitat, but were the water is COLDEST. So I track them all year round, up and down the gulf following the water temperature.By the start of April they would have disappeared from the Adelaide beaches and moved north. This catch was at the end of April in a "middle" part of the gulf. Flathead are a nice by catch, but disappear along with the baitfish when the water gets too cold. However Yellow Fin whiting are still found in the cool water shallows. I manage regular catches through May and June. But it is the Bloodworm runs that really concentrate their numbers into the shallows. And it is then that the better size fish are more abundant. This catch was in the middle of the July bloodworm run.Another bag at the end of JulyThis bag in the middle of the August Bloodworm runAnd I recently managed to find a day with light winds! Which resulted in this bag.Now it is not just us recreational fishers that get stuck into the Yellow Fin Whiting in winter. The graph below from a study in 2000 shows the large majority of the professional catch taken in winter months.Cheers Des

    It certainly is barbaric. Why anyone would actually want to do this let alone go through with it is beyond me.Another thing I don't like is the fact that Dr David Powter said the most likely cause is Rec or game fishers. Why couldn't it be a pro fisher, sick of having his catches taken by sharks? Or sick ass divers?

    Hey All,Not sure if anyone has posted this yet but I finally got a reply from the Onkaparinga Council re CCTV Cameras being installed at O'Sullivan's Beach Ramp. Below is what I recieved from the council today by email:Thank you for your email. I wish to inform you that CCTV has been considered at the O'Sullivan's Beach boat ramp and our options regarding this matter investigated. As a result of our investigations a CCTV system will be installed at the site. Staff have engaged a contractor to undertake the installation of the system which is expected to be installed by the end of June 2013. In addition, the upgrade of lighting at the site which is programmed to occur in the 2013/14 financial year is also expected to have a positive impact in reducing criminal activity from occurring. If you require any further information regarding this matter please do not hesitate to contact me on 8384 0666. Regards Roderik Vincent Team Leader Facilities Management & Crime Prevention

    Understand the sentiments Softy. But at least it appears that the council is doing something. Pretty ordinary when you come back in from a night run or even a day trip out to find your car broken into or your trailer stolen. And no way of finding the little so and so's! Surely this is a step in the right direction?

    I'm working so i cant. I reckon the comp is losing/has lost the appeal it once had, especially for interstaters. Due to not being able to catch that horse around the kinfish pens anymore, and a lack of snapper now days all in all.The locals that are in the know pretty much now have the comp sewn up. We'll see what happens this year, but im betting a low number of fish being caught.

    Same as most places Mac, right time and tide will catch a few.Only issue is that the boat traffic through their is very high so Monday to Thursday is best.Also as Boyo said, you will lose your anchor if you snag up any of the cable that is laying all over the place that has been there for 15 years +Better option is the reefs to the left of Sulli's and finding a nice ledge..

    Don't think i'd be anchoring on that drop. unless you want to lose your anchor. havent seen anyone fishing it. but it doesnt mean its not being fished.

    Boyington214 got a reaction from Del in New Rod design..... A bit different for $500
    TBH these made me laugh when I saw them. What happened to the traditional fishing rod?? And I think Del is onto something in regards to blank integrity. There's a big weak spot between the hand grip, butt section and the main blank. The plastic (or whatever they used) would want to be seriously UV stabilised and strengthened otherwise, 1 season (or less) and snappo!

    I dont want to start any arguments, but I just want to straight out mention that I think these are totally lame! :ohmy: :ohmy: :ohmy: :ohmy: You wouldn't spot me fishing with one of these even if the sponsors approached me and offered to give me five for free!

    Well , what can i say . We will start with , what an awesome time an i was very privileged to be invited along . As far as i know there was a fair few entries asking the boys Andrew and Nick from Hook Line and Sinker to come fishing with them and out of all those entries they answer Mully Madness , Shane "mulloway" Evans to go down Goolwa beach to have a crack at some beach Mully's . I was just lucky to have Shane ask me to come along and help out . The weather was not in our favour and despite this Andrew managed his first Mulloway . Wasn't the biggest going a rough 30cm but still a Mully . Damian who was also invited by Shane landed a Gummy shark as well , that was just over legal . They got some pizzas for dinner and a few beers to wash it down . These blokes were really chill and great to have a fish with . The episode should be aired April the 13th i think . Hope it turns out well ;
