samrota 1
Always have a squid jig handy when fishing. You never know when one will show up.I fish a lot with unweighted half pilchards, and quite often a squid will grab it on the sink. A slow wind in with constant pressure will get it in close. Drop a jig down, pull out the pilchard, and bang one hooked squid. They get a taste of fish and will smash any jig you put in front of them.Sometimes one will follow a hooked fish up, and you can do the same. Also handy to have a teaser tommie under a float to help attract squid.Cook hot and fast with chilli, garlic, lime juice for a tasty meal.Great crumbed, battered, or just floured and fried.Very tasty if baked whole in tubes, stuffed with anything really.Yum bjorn2fish, 4THALOVE and urhookedfish

Ugly4Life 41
Just for clarification' date='do we start a new thread or do we use the comment section here for the report?[/quote']Start a new thread please mate. This one should only be for discussion of the comp itself. Your other threads will be reports or whatever, like the last comp. bjorn2fish
bonhaye 0
My best squid tip is to always cast straight back in after catching a squid, quite often other squid follow your hooked squid in.Cast a few metres back behind the direction of retrieve & maybe another one is close by.My best colours are green/yellow & red/ white. bjorn2fish

waspy 3
I normally just use a flick and sink type retrieve ,add a small ball sinker to the jig and keep it close to the bottom ,found the best time is early as the sun is just starting to come up ,jigs well i just use whatever i have got try different colors sometimes it works sometimes not .Best day i have ever had was at halletts cove where i bagged out in around 30 minutes in front of one of the pros ,now i have ordered my squidezy thingos ill target them more as i will be easy to clean them piratepom and urhookedfish

DOGMAN 0
Bagged out at port victoria 2 weeks ago, my son and i launched at 5.00 in morning ,first cast each, yes and we were on boat limit by 8.30 am , returned to boat ramp looking like a black fella .lol my favourite way to eat squid is pickled, my recipe is, boil squid in salt water couple of mins, drain and let cool, garlic, chillie ,all finely diced ,put in a air tight jar half vinegar and and half boiled water, cooled, with a touch of salt and pepper and sugar,mmmm.enjoy. my tip is get your jig as close to the bottom without snagging up,as this is where they lie waiting for a feed .cheers Poppa Snake and fish man
bjorn2fish 4,612
Just a reminder that you need to start a new topic for your entry to be eligible for the comp.As much detailed info as you can put in will greatly help your chances as you want to stand out among the others. Photo's are always going to help too urhookedfish
king george squid 15
I remember camping at Pt Turton in 1980. Catching gar and tommies off the rocks and spotted a squiddly chasing my tommy in. All we had was the wire jags so on went a tommy and we caught about 10 or so in what seemed like 10 minutes. cut them up into rings and cooked them in a saucepan over the coals that evening. We had that much that even my blue healer couldnt eat any more!!Had the rest cold the next morning. Awesome days. Savagelip

Cleaver 65
Do we have to say that the threads for the comp or are you just reading all threads about squid and entering them? Cheers! As per the previous comp. Post your squid related thread, then hopefully it will be nominated as a contender and then when nominations are finished a vote thread will be put up, i assume
bjorn2fish 4,612
I was going to look through all threads created in May that focus on squid. If you can mention your thread is specifically for the squid comp it will make it a little easier to find. Perhaps just add "SQUID" in uppercase in the title somewhere. There will be a vote at the end to select a winner. If there are lots of contenders I may have to reduce the number of threads that go into the final vote.
