Kingsley got a reaction from Jack. in THE FUNK!
I think we've all been there :)For me it was a bucket of crab remains.... smelled like putrid death. But I decided to hang the bucket off my car aeriel and drive it down to the boat ramp bins, all the while getting that lovely smell wafting into the car. Must have burned into my nostrils coz I swear I was smelling it for ages after.

The Mrs suspected a dead mouse on Monday :ohmy:Tuesday she decided the garbage bins were on the nose.Wednesday she told me to check the carport for a dead possum or Rat.Pfft whatever, I'll get around to it.Home from work after Thursdays heat and the stench had escalated to life threatening proportions!!! CODE RED the back of the house was in lockdown.Mrs went to the shops and I got off my ass to see what the fuss was about ;)Into the carport and a shot of adrenalin went through me as I saw the top of my white bucket in the boat!Ahhh shit!!! This was gunna be wrong in ten types of ways.Overwhelmed by the foulness I set about hatching a cunning plan.I dug a hole.... A very big deep hole that Im proud of. Man I love a good hole in the ground. But this was a purpose dug disposal hole.I went to the bucket with my t-shirt over my nose... That first movement lifting the bucket seemed to release the heart of the stench and it assailed my senses in a really physical way.Im no pussy right, never gag at bad scenes or smells or people hurling, but the walk from my boat to the hole with the bucket really tested my gag reflex.Next was to remove the pilchard from the plastic bag (big kilo+ block) and into the hole with minimum fuss.DONE in one movement.... Then it happened... Wave after wave of sweet sweet acrid, ghoulish, unholy funk hit me.... Each wave stronger than the last... And the sight was of grey slimey, semi broiled barely recognisable big pillies.... And cent-r-meter long 3mm thick highly mobile maggots.I gagged, gained control and then lost it and fully wretched. Then screamed at the dogs to STAYAWAYFORJESUSCHRISTSAKESDOGSDONTGONEAR!My neighbor freaked out at the wrenching and the stench and the yelling and called my Mrs.MRS answered her mobile and laughed... "he is just a :c idiot, dont worry, he just left his bait in the boat since Saturday "Back to the mission and I legged it to the shed, caught my breath, settled my churning guts and grabbed my respirator! It was dusk by now and I strode across the backyard breathing through the filters like Darth Vader... The kids were perched at the window staring in amazement as their Vader-like father in boxers, crocks and spew stained t shirt filled in this unholy grave mess with dirt! The bags were bleached and triple wrapped in garbage bags and now sit odorlessly in the bin.The bucket was bleached and is now standing, full of dirt in the far corner if the yard next to the compost bin.It stands there now as a reminder to any of you lazy fishos out there to never, never ever leave yer bait in the boat!(not one word of exaggeration above) :silly: Stay safe fello fishers.... Stay safe

Here's an online calculator to make it easy.Does Degrees Minutes Seconds, Decimal Degrees & Decimal Minutes conversions.http://www.csgnetwork.com/gpscoordconv.htmlOf course you can also change the settings on your GPS to take any of these formats, then change back to your 'normal' format and it will convert them for you.Same with different Datums, if you get marks in AGD66, change your GPS to AGD66 datum, enter the AGD66 marks, then change back to WGS84.This has been covered numerous times in the past.

Put the live bait tank together using an esky , a bilge pump and some garden pipe bits . Since trying it out i have removed the other hose pipe inside the esky as when it turns of this pipe then siphons the water back out .

I had to raise the esky higher than the edge of the canoe so the water drains out of the tank under gravity ? The only thing i have to keep an eye on is the fish getting sucked on to the outlet but have got an idea on this . And then finally the final product ?

If any one needs anything like this or any other mods done to their kayak or canoe or even boat , give me a call and i can see what we can work out . Cheers Jimbo

never found any yabbies down that way, only turtles...reckon further up would be better, but possibly even further than murray bridge. I did however spy some yabbie nets around murray bridge when I was up there on Sunday.Chief & Weaver etc should be able to give you the good word

http://forums.egullet.org/topic/26036-knife-maintenance-and-sharpening/This is the best online guide I have found.I have a ceramic pull through wheel, plenty of stones and a few japanese oil stone and also the chefs choice electric sharpener described in the article. For 90% of my knives I use the electric sharpener as it gives a very good edge and is quick. For my expensive japanese knives I use various grades of stones.

Reports say they are pretty thick, just dig with your hands in the wash, its like digging up pebbles..no need for a pump, rake net etc.. just your hands and a bucket to put them in. Fill a bucket with water and they will still be alive when you get home.Look for other people catching cockles. Go there, talk to them, try different things, you'll get it its easy.

Just to keep me motivated more than anything, thought I'd let you guys know I have finally started doing something with this... talk about slack! :)Some of the ideas here are great, but probably a bit ambitious for little old me.SO... I'm going to take baby steps.First thing I'm going to implement is getting weather info, because for me this is most important. I was intially concerned with getting tide information, but that's sorted now What I'm thinking of doing is creating a composite of a few pages from BOM, current weather forecast, marine forecast, tides, and latest observations (ie wind speed and direction), moon phase.so, for a particular day I would normaly look at these pages in making my decision about if/when/where to fish:weather forecast page like http://www.bom.gov.au/sa/forecasts/adelaide.shtmlI'm usually interested in just the temp, if its going to rain and any warnings.marine forecast page like http://www.bom.gov.au/sa/forecasts/adelaide-waters.shtmlI'm interested in the winds, sea and swell, and any warnings.Tides for the day.and current wind speeds and direction (and some of the days recordings) to see if the forecast is accurate, from a page like this http://www.bom.gov.au/products/IDS60801/IDS60801.94675.shtmlSo, if I could see all that on one page, I'd be happy.Anything I've missed?Currently I can grab the info, I just have to play around with the best way to display it all.

I was having a poke around on the BOM site and came across this gem.Boating Weather Series - Wind Waves Weather - South AustraliaIt appears to be a free book that was published back in 1998 that goes into detail about understanding local weather patterns etc. interesting read.we all rely so much on online weather forecasts now, I bet hardly anyone knows how to read a synoptic chart

Kingsley got a reaction from urhookedfish in Importing a boat from the US
A work colleague has been in the process of importing a boat from the US since October last year, in the second week of March he will finally get his hands on it.Thought I'd pop up this picture he was sent by the agent of it in the container. Its a Brunswick 2052 Trophy Pro Walkaround and only JUST fit in a 40ft container.yes, it had to be put on its side with only about an inch on the sides and top to spare :)he got a good deal from the US and even with the shipping and agent costs ended up costing less than half of what he could buy one here for.

I'll see if I can get the company details off him.A quick look at classifieds shows me that this particular boat is worth $40k-$60k here. The boat itself was bought for about $15k! plus agent fees and shipping etc all up it cost just over $20k.I have heard that some people (mainly boat yards) import all the time and even stockpile boats overseas and trickle them in as there is a fair amount of money to be made on the difference.
