As Jagger said, I'd rather eat redfin than trout any day.I have kept a few dam trout, and didn't like the taste, a bit muddy/musty.All my trout from now on will be catch and release. I just wanted to try them. Not too bad smoked though.

Mawson Lakes is a recycled effluent and stormwater system. Slightly saline, where carp thrive. Bream go right up into the fresh in estuary systems for short periods, to breed i think? The lakes are NOT full of bream.

Just heard that someone has caught a 33cm carp.

I can tell you that circle hooks do their job and don't come out easily. -

My worst was last August while snapper fishing off the rocks near Point Lowly. Scored a 6/0 circle hook in the finger. Tried to pull it out and push it through, but no joy. Off to Whyalla Hospital, even the Doc had trouble getting it out. When the doc says "oh , how are we going to get this out?" you know you're in trouble. Had to use bolt cutters to cut the hook!I have cut my self numerous times when cutting bait, or filleting fish, but this was definitely the worst. Also got a saltwater catfish spine in my finger years ago that needed to be cut out. Very painful experience. Was in there for m -

Take a hammer and shovel. Crack them on the head, and bury them.

Sounds yum.I pickled some squid and cuttlefish a few years ago. Turned out great.I just heated up of mixture of vinegar, water and spices. Poured over squid in jars, and refridgerate. Also pickled cooked crab, very yum too.Sam.

I've always used the original Fireline on all my light lure flicking setups. I tried Crystal fused recently, and had nothing but problems with it wrapping around the guides and tip, pretty much every third cast. Almost stripped it off one morning, got so annoyed with it. It's supposed to get better the more you use it. I stuck with it and have not had too many problems with the line wrapping the guides.Average line compared to the original. IMHO. Cheap enough thoughCheers.Sam

Thanks Jack. He still wants to get the metre plus cod that lives in that dam.I tell you he's determined and will prob get it one day. He's very competitive, and quite often bets with me who can catch the first fish or the biggest or the most. -

My son (10)has caught all manner of fish species here in SA. From 1kg salmon trout at St Kilda, to squid, gar, crabs, rugger snapper, carp, callop, Silver Perch. But his best achievement was this weekend, when he hooked a nice little Murray cod. Went 63cm on the brag mat. One very happy chappy. Always gives me grief when he outfishes me. Cheers.Sam -
