Hi all wondering what the biggest Redfin Perch is that has been caught in SA waters.
I managed a Pb pushing 40cms on the weekend, not huge but a cracker fish for a freshwater novice like me.
    Whats your biggest?
    Cheers LL

    Aparently there is vogon.
Well done mate! You guessed the right amount of sinkers 👍🏻

That was a bloody fantastic comp, a massive thank you to David from Savage Tackle!
Everyone get the Savage Tackle name burned in your mind, when you are after sinkers, downrigger bombs and berley pots Savage Tackle is your go to brand. Find them at all of your local tackle stores, if you can't find them ask the owners to get them in 😉
Savage Tackle can be found on Facebook - https://www.facebook.com/Savage-Tackle-1255136391255153/ or yell out for David in the forum as he's around here a fair bit.
Again congratulation goes to vogon for guessing the winning amount of sinkers!!!!!
@vogon can you please send me a pm with your details so I can post out the $50.00 voucher.

Thank you everyone who took part in the comp

piratepom reacted to kelp in recipe for preserving salmon
I clean  an scale the salmon then cut it in to cutlets with all bones intact except I cut off the dorsal fin  ,then  place the cutlets into a pressure  cooker then add at least 1 to 11/2 cups of salt water I use sea water when I can, if not add 1 table spoons of salt or make it to your own liking then pressure cook for 1 hour when it finishes cooking allow to cool then strain the salmon an pack into clean preserving jars, top each jar with good quality olive oil  then sterilize in a water bath for 30 minutes seal the lids an allow to cool, it should keep for a year or more, it is delicious on toast, biscuits. toasted pitta bread it is well worth the effort to make all my friend rave about it, hope you go can  to the effort enjoy look forward to your comments

Winter is amongst us. Some fishing banter is in order.
2005, 13 years old. I convince my parents to go to Broome. And somehow book a charter. $140 per person was the going rate. A great day out, landing 3 sails. 9 for the day. I send my photo into fishing world. Receiving my prize but not returning my only photo.
2018.  13 years later. I send the skipper a email. "Somewhere in July i said"   He tracks back to the day in his books and sends me the other two fellow fishers details. As i knew one had a camera. A respond from Tasmania.. with full detail ov the day. Soon enough photos arived in the mail. Reunited.

If you ask 10 fisherpeople about what works best for them with Bream on plastics you'll more than likely get 10 different answers.
If it was too easy there would be no satisfaction in your eventual success. Read and watch as much info as you can handle, but at the end of the day the only way to learn what works for you in any particular location is to get out there and keep casting.
Good luck and cast with confidence.
Look forward to seeing a post from you of a West Lakes Bream with a SP hanging out of it's gob.🐟

Yeah definately understand what your saying I must be doing something right I fished at North Haven in my yak landed my first 28cm bream on plastics.

Just like others have suggested they are just over fed by residents.

Below I've attached two pictures of my first bream.

Yeah Land based fishing in Darwin, firstly , watch out for crocs !
Mandorah Jetty i would go to if decent tides, they get a mixed bag off there inc Spanish macks , queenies , trevally , sharks.
The wharfs do still fish ok , but the majority of decent trevally etc will smoke you on structure .
If your going to try for Barra landbased, id gather some info first on where is fishing good at the time you plan to go , as alot depends on what baitfish are around etc and of course the sometimes huge tides. The local knowledge of the crew at the darwin fishing and outdoor shop (in darwin city) are great , They will put you in the right direction and you could save yourself some time by speaking with them (they have a FB page too, and are responsive on messenger)  Channel island and buffalo creek are some places to look into , plenty of land based barra get caught there usually under 80cm but good fun, you need to know what your doing barra fishing though with the tides etc, And like i say , fishing safely ! ,knowing what the massive tides are doing constantly , and keeping crocs in mind is absolute #1

Sounds like a great trip mate.👌
Buffalo Creek near Lee Point for Barra. Best fished at low tide. There's a fishermans track that leads back up the creek bank from the carpark, which will take you to a few spots worth a flick. Not a track for the faint hearted.
Seen Queenies taken at Nightcliffe jetty and the Cullen Bay ferry jetty. As mentioned the main wharf has a great reputation for fishing.
Another option would be to jump on the ferry, 15 minute ride, and fish the Mandorah jetty.🐟🐟🐟
    Good luck.

Got out this morning to test it. Working perfectly had a gut feeling it wouldn't read right but thankfully I was wrong.

As for the unit it does all I need except it doesn't measure distance travelled... Unless I'm not looking at the right thing.

Just gotta get my head around what it's showing on the screen VS my location on the water.

All good, but get someone else to do the cleaning....problem solvered. 😂.
No need to scale fish over 3kg. Just skin or cook with scales on as they come off simple as with the skin & keep the moisture in.

The beers went down nicely PP with the cremated tommies lol although a bit jerky style.
May give the dry brine a go also - just gotta catch more Tommies haha.
The smoker has 3 metho burners but I only use 1 due to the excessive heat.  I watched a video where they took an hour in a proper smoker, so thought about 1/2 hour for mine.  But you're right, about 15 minutes would have enough.

Smoked Tommies are fantastic... with a couple of beers... yummo!👌
Cremated Tommies don't look so flash tho!😂
I too have gone away from the wet brine and just sprinkle on salt and brown sugar before hot smoking.👍
I'm not sure what heat source you are using, but in my little metal smoking box using a metho burner they are done in 15 -20 minutes depending on the size of the Tommies.🐟🐋😉
    Half the fun is experimenting.🙂
