6wt will be fine. Use a floating line and gentle presentation. usually if they are feeding on the bottom then the fly needs to be dropped gently in front of them or in their path, usually just a little jiggle of the fly catches their attention. Too much movement or splashing often scares them. With floating bread flies I just chuck them out and wait for them to smash them.....

Go to Ikea
Buy $2 (or thereabouts) childs toilet step.
Drill some drainage holes, use thick cable ties to prevent tangles, cut slot for belt in concave part.
PERFECT!!!. Can cut slots on side and rest reel inside tub with rod over top as convenient holder whilst you re-rig. Sits perfectly against your hip like it was made for fly fishing.
Here is my Thomas The Tank stripping basket.... al under $5
You're welcome

Just grabbed this off the net:
It seems the Bellbrooks were made in Artamon NSW.
TBR - is your lure in question definitely made in Japan?
I saw in Big W the other day a Bellbrook rip-off produced by Outback.
Cheers
af
Only looked quick but very old and im pretty sure JAPAN was on bib. I may be wrong, been two days of cleaning up down at Marion Bay so I'm pretty knackered LOL

Great work mate always love your reports, great pics
How often do you come across snakes when you out at this time of year.
I always feel anxious when creek bashing at this time of year and find I go chasing other species for that reason
Cheers guys!
Keenfisho- I see snakes a lot but they don't bother me. Last session I saw three very large red bellies heads down with tails sticking right out of the water, foraging for food. One was massive! They were all sighted on a 50 metre stretch of bank. I see lots of Browns on the paths in and out too.

Hey all,
Been a while since I have posted on here so I thought I'd post up a couple of pics of fish I have caught in the last couple months. This warmer weather has brought out the bugs and this makes for some fun dry fly action. Had a seven fish session, all in about an hour and a half, a few weeks back which was crazy as the fish were just smashing stuff off the surface

Hey all, just thought I would share a few recent captures on fly. All caught using home tied flies, the trout on size 14 or 16 dries with 3wt rod, and the carp on size 8 bread fly on 5wt rod (bloody bent the 5wt I'll tell ya!!!)
Enjoy:
This carp was 91cm+ and prob close to 25lb, VERY fat with huge guts
Cheers!

And the addiction continues........   Many, many hours on the internet over Christmas and New Years had me discover a number of AMAZING deals on fishing gear, and as I was wanting to get three or four setups to suit fresh and salt fly flicking.... I couldn't let these little beauties go. Scored two sage rods (an xi3 and a Method for salt water work), and I just love Abel stuff..... even managed to find a brand new with tags and plastic wrapped Abel rod. They stopped making these years ago, and someone had a new one for sale they had kept in storage for years.... And I couldn't say no..... I have already 'blooded' three of these setups. Fingers crossed I can take the Abel rods virginity tomorrow.... If the trout aren't all dead from the heat.

After giving the local creek a 'rest' for a month or so I grabbed my little 2 weight six footer and headed down to see how things were looking. The water levels were much lower than last session with very little movement. The pools were crystal clear and it was great to see not only trout and Redfin but also yabbies and aquatic bugs doing their thing. With trout visible in all the pools it was not long before I was connected to a nice rainbow that I have seen and targeted for a while without luck. It grabbed a small unweighted nymph gently lifted to the surface in the still pool. Of course I had forgotten my net and fishing with only 2lb tippet things got a little bit tense.... Luckily I managed to gently lift the fish from the water by hand, and after a few quick pics it swam off to sulk for a while. The next pool had a giant brown that I see most times I fish, and true to form as soon as my line touched the water it shot off to hide. The rainbows kept rising and I managed to hook two again on a nymph suspended under a dry. Managed to get one of these to the reel as it screamed off down the pool with a few good leaps thrown in. My new reel was fantastic and really smooth, and after a few nice laps around the pool the fish was beached. A phone call call from the Mrs dragged me back up the hill leaving the trout still smashing the surface around me......

Perfect mate, could even go lighter. I have fished 3 and 4 weight, between 7'6" and 9 foot and I have no major issues with trees.hey Bream reaper....what size fly rod do you use for those small streams with lots of trees?.....Im thinking about getting a 3 wt around 7'8 - 8 foot but but sure if it will be to lightcheers

Slaying the fish down there! It is certainly running a lot clearer than my local walk to.The nymph and dry' date=' do you just let them go with the current or twitch and squiggle to give it a little movement?[/quote']I usually atempt a drag free drift however a lot of the time I access from upstream and usually only get a quick drift before some line drag kicks in, however I have had some takes as the line stops the dry and the current 'lifts' the nymph
what rod and line for relatively narrow and fast flowing rivers ?

93 cm long so you could imagine how massive that gut actually was!
