friday night was looking good.. headed out with a couple of buddies, and ended up at kimba chasing a storm.. round trip of 400kms but what an epic night it was...couple of photos you can see the highway.. gives a great scale of just how big the bolts werehttp://i68.photobucket.com/albums/i7/nifty_2006/11-2.jpgwas getting a bit too close, so bailed into car.. turned camera to air, but it swivelled on side.. pity.. this was a crackerhttp://i68.photobucket.com/albums/i7/nifty_2006/12-2.jpgnext night we got slammed by a big storm.. knocking down power lines, ripping roofs off and blowing over trees... after it calmed down i went chasing again.. only got a couple thoughhttp://i68.photobucket.com/albums/i7/nifty_2006/3-3.jpghttp://i68.photobucket.com/albums/i7/nifty_2006/1-3.jpg

this is true rocknev ,i use spinners in my boat as well but after watching the alvey dvd i started wondering if it would be worth while using one as a snapper reel rather than my abu 7000,dont get me wrong here i still enjoy using my spinners but maybe i am thinking its time to get back on the beach and back to what i was taught on ,as for some one saying they arent good for casting long distance there talking out there hat, maybe there not that good for lures but they can still be used for them .

Well ausea all i can say is that in about 8 years they will have been making these reels for 100 years ,they are still for sale unlike others that have come and gone ,they are a robust no nonsence reel desighned for australian conditions ,no 6000 ball bearings to worry about ,no fine mesh gearing or fancy anodising to get scratched or having to worry that if sand gets into it to stuff it up ,just an alround tough as nails reel, that you can drop in the sand and seawater and not have to worry about it jamming up ,they make different reels for different applications ,i woudlnt take my alvey 700 out with a surf rod in the boat ,but i would take my 500c out on a 6 foot rod in fact i am thinking about selling my abu 7000 and replacing it with an alvey snapper reel ,originally this thread was about alvey reels, who on here still uses them and obviuosly there are a band of fishermen out there who still do use them regularly and love them,it wasnt about seamartin reels or ebay auctions ,lets try to stay on the thread topic ,if you want to talk about seamartins or doc martins or ebay auctions start a thread on it mate

hi mate fishing wholesalers are the alvey agent here in adelaide saw a nice rod ,genuine alvey for a good price ,for my smaller ones i use a spinner rod but with a huge first eye so when the line comes of the spool it isnt trying to get through a small guide ,they used to sell a line guide for alvey reels i dont know if you can still get them just for hooking line into after casting ,when i was a young bloke we did just that down at a reserve near my home, massive cast line jammed next thing crrrrrash ,oh ohhh run boys straight through some guys window ,back in those days we would have got a good belting for it had he have caught us ,didnt go back there again

hi guys i own 6 alveys, best reels ever made and so easy to use, i will swear by them wont use anything else ,tried the rest and im sticking with the best,i,ve got one thati have had for 40 years, that was my first been hooked ever since [skuse the pun] found it down the old lonsdale dump, took it home, washed it, oiled it, and now i still use it,only to remember is always use a swivell between the main line and the trace and you will never have a problem, learn to guide the line evenly on to the spool using your finger, and you will rarely if ever get a birds nest. be happy to talk to any one about them anytime.Khombi
