Well done, mate. That's bigger than any fish I've caught off the jetty and a very nice rod to have for a first rod. I remember the KMart rod I got for my first ever fishing trip. Still caught some massive carps though.

Went to hunt the big old sambos that swim in the eyre peninsula gutters. We managed 2 thumping size salmon, but my brother lost one at his feet, approx 75cm. Although we did manage an 81cm salmon that weighed in at 5.5kg, a PB for me. We managed over 10 salmon each day, great trip all up.

found this on tha S.A police news page Monday, 23 September 2013 3:16pm Catch of the Day: Barossa Police bag law-breaking fishermenThree fishermen have landed themselves in hot water with Barossa Police, after 426 blue swimmer crabs, nearly all of which were undersize, were discovered in their vehicle.Police were assisting Fisheries Officers when they stopped and searched the men’s vehicle at Port Pahram on Friday evening. Two men, aged 50 and 51, were issued with expiation notices totalling $1,500 each and their equipment was seized for exceeding bag limits, and taking undersized crabs. It’s the second time this week that Barossa Police have ‘pinched’ fisherman for flouting PIRSA regulations. At 3pm on Wednesday, police patrolling the foreshore of Thompson Beach witnessed a fisherman, assisted by a woman, loading plastic tubs and crab rakes into a car.Police discovered 27 undersized swimmer crabs in the tubs, which were released back into the water.Police wish to remind the community that persons who conduct illegal fishing activities will forfeit their catch and may have their equipment, including vehicles, seized. Before you hit the water, be sure that you’re familiar with size, bag, boat and possession limits- See more at: http://www.sapolicenews.com.au/component/content/article/19-lsa/17462-catch-of-the-day-barossa-police-bag-law-breaking-fishermen.html#sthash.81NOq2ob.dpufI cant believe how many :c stupid people are out there raping our fishery and doing this sort of shit it makes me :c furious, start tying nooses and hang em I say like Des mentioned in another post to fish in S.A you need to sit a simple test to say you understand our rules and sign off on it I would happily pay a fee to do so cheers a pissed off 4THA

Guys, this is relevant to those people who are a member of this forum and FishSA. The administrator of FishSA is monitoring posts written on this forum!I found today that I was banned on FishSA within an hour of posting this comment below, on this forum:
A rediculous reason to be banned (surely), so I contacted the FishSA administrator immediately, and politely asked why my membership was banned on his forum. He gave me no reason, and simply said I was banned. Considering I haven't posted on FishSA for sometime, I can only come to the conclusion he read my posts on here, and determined I should be banned on his forum. Now let's be clear, I won't lose sleep about not being able to access FishSA, as it's my opinion it's been on the downhill slide for sometime - and besides, this website is a much better one anyway! However, it's deplorable to think that the FishSA administrator is lurking on here and monitoring what is written by us. Why bother? Just shows a total lack of integrity and a great deal of insecurity. What ever happened to freedom of speech?Anyways, please be aware of this if you frequent both forums. To avoid any problems can I suggest you don't have the same user name for both forums so it makes it harder for someone to identify you.Mods - I haven't started this post to start a shit storm between the two forums, that's not my intent. However it's clear many members frequent both forums and I feel they need to know what is going on.Cheers.

pikk0n got a reaction from urhookedfish in Port Stanvac Jetty - Do You Want it Open to Recreational Fishing
I'd like it opened but only to anglers paying a fee for jetty maintenance and to minimise vandalism on the jetty. On top of that, having restrictions with stricter bag and size limits will be on the list as well. Being able to employ a security guard there full time to police these controls will make it a jetty for many to enjoy for years to come. Basically, we'd want to protect this area because we all know what'd happen the moment it's open to public. Even if it's just to boats after they demolish the jetty! A controlled and sensible fishery like our fishing clubs will be ideal for such a location.

I understand your frustration mate. Any sensible fisho does. I have to deal with the pricks every day at St Kilda, fishing on the wrong side into a sanc zone and taking under size everything. Don't think it pisses me off to the max too? I don't have much faith in FishWatch responding either. The last time I called them they messed me around for 45 minutes before connecting me to a field officer that was out in the middle of the gulf. Not something that inspires confidence when you're watching people break the law in front of you. However I am just enforcing the rules here as is my job. There is a reason why illegal activities are not to be promoted or discussed on Strike & Hook and whether we think it's the truth or the right thing to do is irrelevant.

I was hoping to read a two page report from a person who has a biological background but the ones doing most of the writing are the ones claimed to be simpletons... This is despite Ranger's invitation... OH well, I'm a psychologist and I refuse to bog you down with a 5 page report on my understanding of this matter. I'll just say that you're stubborn.

Took my mate and his father-in-law fishing today. They were quite keen to get a suitable outfit each and first stop was Fishering Wholesalers. I was pleasantly surprised to be greeted by Mark in the store and he put us onto the goods. I picked out a pair of Daiwa Airds for my mate and Mark matched them to a Daiwa Seabass rod. I haven't used these before but they were similar to my seajiggers and did the job great today. We grabbed some braid and Mark spooled both reels. We left with a pair of great landbased rods and a few odds and ends, very happy with the service.Headed to a spot down south and soon we were set up and fishing. After 2 hours of catching baby ST I was getting a bit worried. We caught 2 decent mullet but they both shook off the hooks as we lifted them from the water. The keeper bag was empty and I considered moving spots. Another bait change and suddenly I was onto a better fish. It turned out to be a 42cm mullie. We put out a few more pilchard cubes and suddenly the school moved infront of us. We pulled in a 60cm fish and another just undersized before getting a double, then a triple hookup. Most of the fish fought great on the light gear and braid and we had a heap of fun. Ended up with a few keepers and released another 7 or 8 undersized.

The worst part is the first 50m from the carpark to the beach, from then on it's all smooth sailing..........in fact you'll find it to be a highway with just as much traffic.Regardless of what anyone chooses to tell you, reduce your tyre pressures when driving on the sand, if nothing else to prevent chewing it up for others.Remember you're speed restricted, coz the beach is classed as a road, so keep it down to 45kph and keep an eye out for kids.If/when the sand gets soft, keep the momentum going, and keep your wheels straight.DO NOT use low range....it's a mistake many make. Stick it into 4WD high range, and away you go.Driving in the damp sand will be much easier than driving up in the dry, but remember to park high in the dry sand, coz you dont wanna get caught by the incoming tide.Be wary of the current if you go wading in at the mouth, it's more dangerous than it looks. Is this the time I should tell you about the mully fisherman wading in the mouth? The one standing in waist deep water who tied his first mully to his belt as he continued fishing? The same one who felt a tug, then looked down to see he now only had half a mully tied to his belt?

Fair enough. Well, here's to hoping you catch a yellowfin bream in West Lakes (it doesn't have to be a 60cm one), post its picture here and prove the doubters wrong. I can't say for sure that you've caught one or you haven't. Neither can anyone else without seeing the fish to assist you with the fish identification. Either way, you caught a decent sized fish and lost it just as you were about to land it which is unfortunate.

Nobody caught a yellowfin Bream in Westlakes... Although a 60cm schoolie you didn't quite land could fool you for a Bream. Also, if you're catching a lot of standard 20cm westlakes bream, and you hook a 40cm beast, you could be forgiven for getting excited and calling it a 60cm monster, they sure do look impressive @ 40-50cm... A calm head and a straight tape measure would have brought you down to earth.... Although, a big +40cm bream is still quite a fish. Also, Black bream can be all sorts of colours from sand loving bright silver flanks and yellow fins, to a filthy bronze.Apart from the.fishes profile, and the distribution of the two species, an easy way to tell a Black from a yellowfin for the uninitiated, is to inspect the size of the anal spine. The yellowfin has a long anal spike/spine, that sticks out beyond the fin.The black bream has a shorter anal spine that does not protrude past the anal fin.End of the day, we are all keen on a fish, every fisho is a liar at worst, and an exaggerater at best....... And we all have lovely kind hearted mothers

Are you sure your not confusing the fish for a school mulloway?? 60cm is very possible and they have a yellowish colour on there fins. look completely different, however they are found throughout the lake, much more so than a 60cm bream.Just my 2c anyways.

Where have you fished before? What type of fishing do you do and what is your skill level? What do you want to catch? Are you interested in lots of little fish and plenty of action, or putting in lots of time for a chance of a legal fish but less smaller ones? What rod and reel do you have? No point buying an expensive rod and reel as it won't catch you any more fish if you don't know what you are doing. How far are you willign to travel? Are you willing to fish at night or in rough weather? There are many variables to consider before we can suggest some options.Learning to fish, westlakes is good as you will get plenty of bites and the occassional legal bream. Plenty of tommies off the metro jetties in the evening if you know how.One of the bigger species to catch will be salmon off port noarlunga jetty in winter during a storm but you will need to wait till at least autumn.Another tip I will give you is don't chase the rumors or reports and fish the same location for at least a dozen or two times. Any of the jetties will hold fish at the right time and although the learning curve is steep, plenty of good fish can be caught. You can bag on gar, tommies, YFW, and squid at the right time if you know what you are doing.Set your goals small at first. Tommies and squid are a good beginner target off the jetties and provide a good feed. Bream in westlakes are a good target to practice on.
