Double Trouble reacted to Malloy in Salt creek trip 22-23 January
So my dad, brother and myself piled in to my dads 4WD and decided to go down to salt creek for a over night trip. We left about 6.30 Am on the 22 of january two see if we could get our lines wet and get tangled with a big mulloway or 2. We got down there about 10 o'clock and some friends were there already they had caught a 3 foot gummie shark and a ray just before we got there they had pulled in there lines because it was low tide and lot of weed around and you couldn't put your rod into the water with out getting tangled up. We sat around for a while until about twelve then we all decided to go for a drive so we all jumped in the ute and started heading along the beach we went about 5 km from camp and found a nice gutter and threw our lines in the water there. Then about 10 minutes after putting our rods into the water BZZZZZZ! the drag takes off on one of our reels my dad runs off and grabs the rod and sets the hooks, by this time the rods tip is almost touching the ground. We first thought if was a ray until we saw it in the surf it was a big mulloway he fought it for about 5-10 minutes then got it on the beach I ran down and gafed it that was my dads first big mulloway. fished for a while after that and nothing else went back to camp and hung it on some scales and it weighed in at 23 lb.

Ok , so on Wed smoko i got a call from my old boss asking "you doing much tomoz ? Thinking of going on a fishing charter , would you like to come ?" . My instant reply "is a ducks a@#$ water tight" . It was predicted to be 41 deg anyway so i wasn't to keen to work doing some roofing , not that i needed an excuse like this to take the day of . Got a call a bit later saying it was on and to be ready by 4:15am . Mark was at my door on time and we headed of on an adventure . We were down at Cape Jervois to meet the charter on time and head out before the birds were chirping and wouldn't you know it , the charter fella was a tad late . Makes a change as Mark usually drives Miss Daisy and we are late ? On board and loaded up we headed out through Backstairs Passage towards the Pages and it wasn't long before we could see the birds bombing the water . Motored towards them and we got close enough to see the Tuna breaching out the surface smashing the bait . What a sensational sight . "To small" cries the skipper and we cruise past heading further out into the big blue . After what seems like an eternity , a few more to small cries and barely seeing land the skipper is telling us to put our line's out . Not to long into the trawl and my rod buckles over and i am onto my first Tuna . After a shortish battle and getting to see colour the hooks pulled with the fish about 5-10 meter's below the boat . Bugger . Off Trawling again and before i could turn the camera on there was a double hookup with one of the rods being mine . A bit of pandemonium and a little bit of underwater footage two Tuna are on board with me landing my first ever Tuna . A bit more of a trawl this time but again i couldn't get the camera on while i was onto another Tuna . Now by this time i hung my rod up to let other people on board to catch a Tuna them selves and be fair but then i was thinking of the other times i had been on charters and didn't even catch a fish because other people had got the boat limit before i really had even had a crack so this time i thought bugger it and after some one had been busted off a couple of times had landed one them selve and was still trying to catch a fish every time we did a pass i had a crack again . This time i got the hook up on camera but a minute or so in to the epic battle , the bloody battery went flat . This time tho the braid had some fray in it so the skipper told me not to put to much drag on this fish and take my time . 10-15 minutes later i had it on board ? This one was also my biggest fish for the day . Awesome stuff . Once the boat limit was reached we headed closer to shore to have a crack for some Snapper . Managed to get a few 45-50cm models but then we caught 3 eagle rays and the skipper decided to call it a day and we headed back to port . Cant thank Lands End Pro Charters enough for the epic adventure chasing Tuna and what an awesome and spectacular day . Cheers fellas .http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2J2AdEoJ8jwCouple of bits i need to re edit on this ?

Double Trouble reacted to Live Fibre in Wilson MT8144 VS Wilson live fibre.
Live Fibre rods are constructed from carbon fibre,fibre-glass "strands" and resin.......light and strongMT8144 is "old school" 8 sheets of fibre-glass sheet, formed over a mandrel ( looks a bit like a steel 8 ball cue )8144 is a real stump-puller,very reliable and will handle "most abuse".........very heavy after a long session, and a bit like a broomstick in action compared to an equivalent length / rated Live Fibre.........nice rods.I have 3 MT8144 rods, and love'em..........one with a SpinFisher 9500SS,one a 651 Alvey and one running an ABU 10,000.....all spooled with 30lb mono..........all "old school" heavier type reels. In this day and age, with reels being lighter etc, perhaps your Live Fibre might be the go As for which is better, well, that's a personal choice.........my 8144's are 20 years+ in age,and fishing time available to me,and funds don't really allow / warrant an upgrade ..........not that I would;if it ain't broke, don't fix it

Ive got a sunbeam food saver, had it for many of years and works great, unsure of price. If ya after reasonably cheap good bags or rolls for your machines go to:MBL Food ServiceAddress: 432 Churchill Road, Kilburn SA 5084 Phone: 8262 8637I'm quite sure i used to buy the 5mtr x 250mm rolls and the 5mtr x 300mm rolls for around $25 for 2.They have a variety to choose from rolls and bags. Some of the ones ive bought from ebay are :c waste of money

also just recieved the new batch of bags from this ebayerhttp://www.ebay.com/itm/160903227226?ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1497.l2649topnotch full textured bags. so now got 8 more rolls of GOOD bags and i still have 6 rolls of bags suitable for bait and other such non desirables. the other rolls are only textured on the edge and i found that they didnt vac and seal EVERY time correctly. so have relegated them to seconds usage.

Kept a few for livebait. All of a sudden i see a fin breach the surface in the distance. Thought nothing of it just figured it was a few dolphins. NEK MINIT theres a sunfish under the jetty.

Yesterday arvo I caught my PB Salmon, a 5kg beauty caught on a 1500 reel, and bream rod, on 5lb braid and 8lb leader, with a 20 gram knight. Was awesome to catch off a reef, and very hard cover. Was caught off Cummins jetty Caught heaps of others between 30-60cm(a real mixed school) and lost 3 or 4 similar size to my big one, including one that snapped off my roosta popper at my feet after trying to land it for 7 or so minutes. All in all an awesome time. Pixies to come later. Yakman

Evening ppl, I use & highly recommend the "Furi Tech Edge Pro", three stage sharpening system. Fantastic bit of kit. Absolute simplicity to use & I can shave the hair off my skin with every knife I sharpen on it. Cheers.

Double Trouble reacted to Cal in Surf rod length
I have 10 footers 11 and 12 footers a 13 footer and a 14.The one I feel most comfortable with is 12 foot. The advantage of the longer rod lies mainly with keeping the line up above the surf if the conditions dictate.on the casting side of things,i do a bit of distance casting using tricked up OH reels for a bit of a hobby, and technically speaking the longer rod should give you more distance. But if you are uncomfortable with the extra length what happens is technique suffers, and hence distance as well.IE ...a good comfortable length rod + good technique will outcast a longer rod that someone is struggling to get a nice smooth cast out of.You can change your style and adapt to using the longer rod ,but it comes down to practice and getting use to the feel of it.cheers
